Storing Dates in SQL

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I have a dropdownlist list that is populated with dates as follows -

Dim TextString As String = Date.Now.ToString("MMMM yyyy")
            Dim ValueString As String = Date.Now.ToString("01/MM/yyyy")
            drpmonth.Items.Add(New ListItem(TextString, ValueString))

            TextString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-1).ToString("MMMM yyyy")
            ValueString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-1).ToString("01/MM/yyyy")
            drpmonth.Items.Add(New ListItem(TextString, ValueString))

            TextString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-2).ToString("MMMM yyyy")
            ValueString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-2).ToString("01/MM/yyyy")
            drpmonth.Items.Add(New ListItem(TextString, ValueString))

            TextString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-3).ToString("MMMM yyyy")
            ValueString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-3).ToString("01/MM/yyyy")
            drpmonth.Items.Add(New ListItem(TextString, ValueString))

            TextString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-4).ToString("MMMM yyyy")
            ValueString = Date.Now.AddMonths(-4).ToString("01/MM/yyyy")
            drpmonth.Items.Add(New ListItem(TextString, ValueString))

When I do an insert query to the sql database that includes the dropdownlists value sql stores it MM/01/yyyy. (drpmonth.selectedvalue)

How do i get sql to store it the way i am sending it (01/MM/yyyy). I a

Storing User Data

I'm trying to get the current logged in UserId Value, using this code

Protected Sub UserProfileDataSource_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs) Handles UserProfileDataSource.Selecting      ' Get a reference to the currently logged on user      Dim currentUser As MembershipUser = Membership.GetUser()      ' Determine the currently logged on user's UserId value      Dim currentUserId As Guid = CType(currentUser.ProviderUserKey, Guid)      ' Assign the currently logged on user's UserId to the @UserId parameter      e.Command.Parameters("@UserId").Value = currentUserId End Sub

But, I getting an error (NullReferenceException), I did set a url authorization on the page that i try to get the logged in user information, witch is info.aspx, and I made the login.aspx control to be redirected to the info.aspx after the login process, But the info.aspx  only shows me (access in denied), how can i make this page knows that i am already logged in?

Serializing XML and storing as XML in Database

Hi All,

I know this may sound a daft question but I'm wanting to save Serialized XML into a databse but for the life of me I cant do it.

So far I have my class

public static void SerializeToXML(Candidate candidate)
            XmlSerializer serializer = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Candidate));
            TextWriter textWriter = new StreamWriter(@"C:\movie.xml");
            serializer.Serialize(textWriter, candidate);

This basically save the serialized properties in the Candidate class into the movie.xml file which is great but I want it to return XML (so it can be re-used) so I can store the XML in the XML database field

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Storing .EXE Files in SharePoint

   New to SharePoint.  We just started migrating directories to our SharePoint server, and have encountered an issue storing .EXE files.  The error message says that it is denied by the administrator, however our IT team believes you can not store .EXE in SharePoint and that it is a system limitation.

   Could someone please confirm whether or not there is a restriction for the storage of .EXE files in SharePoint?

   If this is just an administrator setup issue, is there a doc that would direct us how to remore this setting?

Thank you,

Generating and storing html pages in User Directories on the server

I come from corporate asp.net development, and I am now working on a public website which will get a lot of traffic, perhaps a million users a day.  So I am faced with a ton of performance and scalability questions.

I would like to share some thoughts and see if my approaches resonate with any good practices, or perhaps I am heading down the wrong path...  Either way, I want to hear opinions.

(My number one concern is the fact that I am using asp.net for a public website.  I don't know of a lot of websites using asp.net)

I am using asp.net 2.0 (I know, its not the latest technology but I don't need any advanced features of asp.net 3.5 or 4, unless there are significant improvements geared towards what I am doing)

On launch date, this will be running on a dedicated Windows Server 2008 running on Intel ATOM 330 1MB L2 Cache 1.6Ghz Dual-Core with 2GB DDR RAM.  Its fully managed by a full service hosting company which gives me an option to upgrade to a bigger server within a few hours.  I can even move the site to a webfarm if the traffic demands it.

So I have a User Dashboard, where users can create albums and upload pictures.  So what I am doing

Get Dates from Sunday thru Saturday

I'm using the date picker and I need to know how (or if it's even possible), to select a date, and based on the date, have the actual query use the week the date was in and return all the records from that week (Sunday through Saturday)

Like - if I pick 8/24/2010 - it returns a date range of 8/22 through 8/28
I'd also like to display the date range in the report, somehow

Any ideas on how I do this?

Storing data into property

Hi, I have written a property globally on page load i am storing setting some value into that property but on button click i am not able to retrieve the data. Is there any alternate way to save the data other than viewstate or sessionstate. Hiding other month dates in ASP .Net Calendar Control

Often we need ASP .Net calendar control in our webpages. Most of the times we require navigation in between dates of the calendar control but there can be a requirement that when we want that users should not be able to select dates from month other than the current month.Some people might be thinking in mind that Microsoft has provided theShowNextPrevMonth property of a calendar control which can be set to false in order to disable the navigation in between months. Ok, this will disable navigation but what about the dates of adjacent months shown in current month?Following is the output of a normal Calendar control when ShowNextPrevMonth is not set to false.Note the red circles in above image. July and September will allow you to navigate through other months and red circles below will allow you to select dates of adjacent months.Ok now we set the ShowNextPrevMonth property to false and see the output. Following is the output in this case.So setting out the ShowNextPrevMonth property has disabled the July and Septemberlinks but dates of adjacent months are still there which can be selected as well. How to disable/hide these? Unfortunately there is no such default property provided using which one can disable or hide these dates but fortunately doing this using code is not a complex task. Use following code a

Storing and displaying user input (encoding query)

Hello,I've just been reading up a little on security regarding user input and how to handle html and scripts.My question is, what if I build my own CMS?Isn't it inevitable that I'll want to store html code, possibly scripts, and almost certainly apostrophes and special characters, and then display them again.What's the best way to do this, since I wont want to display the encoded html, but the html itself.Would it be to encode everything then when I want to actually display the html, decode it, but everywhere else, keep it encoded?I'm just trying to think of all the scenario's that I could come across when I accept user input where I don't know what they could be typing in.What if I WANT the user to be able to display html?Is it possible to decode only some tags but leave all other tags encoded?

passing dates in stored procedure?

I am trying to pass dates in  a stored procedure and keep getting an error - here is the code and error.  eventually the sproc will be used in SSRS.     ALTER PROC [dbo].[USP_SPROC_X] @DATE DATETIME AS SELECT ITEM , PRICE , SELL_DSCR , PRC_EFF_DT , PRC_END_DT , PROPOSED_BY ,CONFIRMED_BY FROM SALES WHERE @DATE BETWEEN PRC_EFF_DT AND PRC_END_DT   Msg 4104, Level 16, State 1, Procedure [PROCNAME], Line 141 The multi-part identifier "PRC_EFF_DT" could not be bound.

Storing multiple data types in a class?

I need help writing a class that will contain three values per item.  I'll be passing parameters to a report: Parameter Name, Data type (int, string, date, etc), and Value. When I pass those values to the report using the class they should be in original form (i.e. an integer should be a numeric, a string should be a string, etc.).  I can do it converting the data's value to strings on one end, and reconverting to the original data type on the other, which seems like a lot of runaround. Is there a simple way?  Also, if I'm able to store & retrieve the data in it's native format I don't need the "Data type" stored. Any help or tips will be appreciated.
