Many to Many Relationship / Gridview and end user linking process

How to let user edit selected gridview columns, not entire row

Hello!-

I've got a gridview I would like to let the user edit a couple of columns.  Seems like everything I'm coming across so far makes the entire row editable.

Hopefully the solution isn't too complicated.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi..

I have three column comes from database table(Table1) and one column is for entering data for the user let us consider it look like this

002       A               20       5

003       B               50

004       C               60      10

005       D               40

If its 300 row from database to gridview it will show 50 record with page navigation..

What i need is i need to insert data in to database table which gridview row has user value..

The output of the another table(Table2) will look like this after insert

How to process data AFTER page is completely loaded for the user?

I have some logging that has to be done, which are some database update or inserts.

However this logging is of no importance to the user, so I only want to process the data/logs after the page is completed for the user.
As of now, if I process the data while the page is loading, I go from 1.4 to 2.0 speed (server side time processing of code), which is quite a bit comparing it is of no use to the user.

So I want this code only executed after that the page is complete.

I've been checking out Ajax, async pages etc, but the problem is it still gets executed before the page is rendered to the client, which means the client will have to wait longer then it is not being processed.

I've been checking out Threadpool.queueBackgroundWorker, however if I get it correct, this will still be executed before the page is shown to the user, as it has to complete before the prerender.

Then I thought about creating a new thread, and do the processing there, which would not have my page waiting to complete the data/logging.
However when I have 100 or 200 users loading pages at the same time, then that would mean I would be creating 200 threads on those loads, which I doubt will be good for performance. So if I want to solve this, I would have to create my own threadpool and only assign for example a max of 40 threads to it which can pr

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User

Could someone help with this please? I'm using VWD 2010 to build a new web site - I tried to add a new database file but it won't do it. I started by clicking on the folder 'App_Data', then right clicking and selecting 'Add new item' - after that I tried to add an SQL Server Database but received this message...  'Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User Instance' What does this mean? How do I start the 'Process for the User Instance'?  I imagined all that was done for me at the install stage, when I installed VWD2010, but it appears not.  Thank you for any help at all.    Regards

Adding user names when updating gridView

Hi All,May be this is a begineers question, could someone help on this please?I'm using a windwos authentication via intranet. I'm able to display the username in a label control on a page load event (which is very simple). I'm not storing this data anywhere in the table (MS SQL). I have all my data in a table and I'm using a gridview to diplay them. I'm using a button control to update all the rows in the gridview. I wanted to update three columns in the gridview (1. Tickbox, 2.Datetime Stamp and 3.UserId).I've created a query in the dataset, through which i can update the Tickbox and DateTime stamp using now() function. But I'm not sure how to update the UserID field with the UserName (which inturn updates all the three fields in the gridview when the button is pressed.

Put outer-gridview in non-Edit mode when user edits inner-Gridview

using vb.net/asp.net 2005.(sorry last post I had the grids reversed, what I meant to say is this:I have an outer gridview I'll called "Outer" and an inner-gridview inside that I'll call "inner".There are times when the user will put Outer into edit mode and then put Inner into edit mode and change a value in Inner.  The user is not supposed to be able to do that.So when the user wants to edit Inner I need to change the edit mode of Outer so that Outer is Not editable.   EX: I want to do something like this but not sure in which event of outer to do it:'event fired when user puts inner gridview into edit mode Protected Sub Inner_RowEditing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewEditEventArgs) Handles Inner.RowEditing 'put outer gridview into non-edit mode Outer.EditIndex = -1 End Sub Does anyone know how to do this, is this the right event?  Also I assume I have to rebind the gridview?thanks,MC

GridView crashes when user enters html open "<" or close ">" characters in a textbox

My GridView is bound to a sql data source and allows editing of fields. Coding is in C# and JavaScript. Using Visual Studio 2008 in test mode, if I enter a less-than "<" or greater-than ">" character in a GridView textbox an error is immediately thrown upon pressing enter: "Microsoft Visual StudioMirosoft JScript runtime error:Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: An unknown erroroccurred while processing the request on the server. The status dode returnedfrom the server was: 500"When the < or > is entered in production, the page aborts and loads the application start page. I need to be able to catch and replace those characters BEFORE the error is thrown. I've tried hooking OnTextChange code to the textboxes, but the error is thrown as soon as I press enter...the OnTextChange code never runs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Filter out a user from a GridView

I am listing users in a GridView with:

                            <asp:GridView ID="GridViewUserAccounts"
                                            AutoGenerateColumns="false"
                                            runat="server">
                                <Columns>
                                    <asp:BoundField DataField="UserName" HeaderText="User ID" />
                                    <asp:BoundField DataField="Email" HeaderText="Email" />
                                </Columns>
                            </asp:GridView>

And code behind:

                        GridViewUserAccounts.DataSource = Membership.GetAllUsers
                        GridViewUserAccounts.DataBind()

I want to remove from the GridView one user with a particular UserName.

How do I achieve this?

Your help would be much appreciated (code snippets prerferably in VB please).

Thanking you in anticipation.

Roger

How to log exactly what user has changed in Gridview event ?

I have Gridview which allows user to edit record.
I already build the event to save the new record, time and user machine information to a log database.
However, this means a whole record is saved to the log... if the user just change one or two column/field out of say 20 fields, then there is a lot of waste. Also the change is not obvious.

How can I log exactly which field(s) was changed in the record ?
Thanks

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the us

I am trying to get an app I created in VB.NET to run on a client machine. The app runs fine on my development machine but when I copy it to a client machine I receive the error:

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance.

I have installed SQL Server Express on both pcs with identical accounts and running identical versions.

What's strange is if I change User Instance = True to User Instance = False in the code, the app runs on the client machine but not on my developer machine.

It seems more like a SQL Server issue than a VB.NET issue.

Any ideas?

Ajax, Smart Parts(web part w/ ajax support), User Control, and a GridView

So I am playing around with a user control that I created that adds some functionality to a SPList. I have scoured the web looking for a way to get a web part that had a gridview with custom buttons that is bound to certain Items in a sharepoint list. I found Smart Parts and created an Ajax enabled User Control. the problem is that the label is updating but the gridview is not. and on a site note how can I format the Time on Board column to not include milliseconds(the fields are showing up like '1.02:48:31.8633636') i just want 1.02:48 and maybe the 31:

here is my ascx:

<%@ Control Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="AlertControlWebPart.ascx.cs"
  Inherits="AlertControlWebPart.AlertControlWebPart, AlertControlWebPart, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToke

Anyone tried using LDIF file in the User Profile Synchronization Process?

Microsoft pushied an article recently talking about using LDIF file in the SharePoint's user profile synchronization.

Configure profile synchronization using a Lightweight Directory Interchange Format (LDIF) file (SharePoint Server 2010) http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff959234.aspx

Currently I am unable to obtain the required "Replicate Directory Change" permission set up by the AD admin.  So I thought of exploring this alternative since I still have AD search permission right now.

So far, I was able to set up the MOSSLDAP-LDIFMA, and use an import.ldif file to add, remove and update user profiles.  However, there are some problems that I can't resolve.  One of key problems is, the LDIF-imported records can't be sync'd with login-based records.

In my environment, when a user login SharePoint via Windows authentication, a new profile would be added, under the account name "domain\username".  Meanwhile, when an LDIF record imported, there will be another profile created under the account name "domain:domain\username", or "domain:username".  That is, there would be two profiles for each user.

Based on my understanding, it is very likely the user profil

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the us

This seems to be a common problem but I've tried everything I could find in all the posts on this topic with no luck.

The server is Windows Server 2008 running IIS7.  The ASP.NET application worked fine but it used SQL Server 2008 Web Edition (10.0.2531) and my goal was to upgrade the Web Application from ASP.NET 2.0 to ASP.NET 4.0 and use SQL Express (10.50.1600).

Here are the confirmations/changes I've made while researching this issue:

 1) SQL Server Express is running as Local System (it is on a domain controller)

 2) sp_configure 'user instances enabled', 1... was already 1, but what the heck, did it again

 3) enabled audit security logon events failure to see if it was a permissions problem

 4) attached the mdb file in SSMS to insure it was ok, it is

 5) removed the files in c:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Data\SQLEXPRESS

       (note, I removed the ones in my administrator user folder as there wasn't one for "local system"

 6) And of course, it works fine on my developement machine, windows 7. :)

Any other suggestions how what I should try or procedures to troubleshoot??

TIA

George

Gridview fails to process "databind"

Dear all,

I have a gridview in web user control and when i try to bind the datasource during the Page load process, an exception occurs. The datatable is retreived successfully without errors( I could view the data inside using the debugger ) but once gridview.databind() process takes place, exception occur. Could anyone tell me what happens ? This is really weird to me coz if such gridview is placed inside a content page instead of a webUser Control, no exception or error will occur.

Thank you very much and i greatly appreciate your effort.
