seeking recommendations for running Visual Web Developer 2010 on Windows 7 without local administrat

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

All -

Please help.

I am seeking recommendations for running Visual Web Developer 2010 on Windows 7 without local administrator access.

Is there a "how to" somewhere that delineates the issues, etc, that come along with

Is there some other access level, something higher than Power User but lower than Local Administrator, that can be used or created?

There seems to be a lot of places where glitches appear if one is trying to do development on a Windows 7 64 bit box with Visual Web Developer 2010 Express.

For example, without local administrator access, one cannot create a virtual directory in Windows 7 in IIS, which slows down testing, etc.

I am of the mind that developers should be allowed to run as Local Administrators, for expediency sake, etc.

What do you recommend to approach the situation if one must run at a user level lower than Local Administrator?

If you do not run as a Local Administrator when you develop at you corporate environment, then how do you workaround the matter?

If you do run as a Local Administrator when you develop at you corporate environment, then how did you get management to understand?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express - installation on Windows Server 2008

We are trying to install VWD 2010 on a windows 2008 server. We already have installed the 2008 version as well as SQL 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2. The Web Platform installer is not installing VWD 2010 however.

At first it notified us that the OS does not allow it, after running tons of updates on the OS (some of which failed) it is still not doing it, not even donwloading it. The latest message simply asked us to post the error on the forum.

Has anybody had similar experiences? If so, how was it solved?

Visual Web Developer 2010 Express "Copy Web Site" using different login

I created a site and am trying to grant another pesron access to upload changes to it without giving them my super-user login.

I made a login for her but I can't test whether it works or not because no matter how much I "disconnect" in the Copy Web Site page of VWD 2010, reconnecting to the same site always logs in as my superuser account without prompting me for a login again.

How do I test is the account it set up correctly before having her try to upload to it?    I want to force the login to remote site dialog to pop up again to test her account.

Any ideas?

Visual Studio 2010 on windows 7 64 bit

Today i have xp pro with visual studio 2005 and going to change to windows 7 with 64 bit.

Will upgrade to Visual Studio 2010 with 64 bit.

Is that a problem going from visual stuidio 2005 (32bit) to visual studio 2010 (64bit) ? Anything i should think about or if anybody had problems with this ?

The server I will deploy my webapplication is windows server 2003 (32bit).
Will it be ok to deploy webapplications that are build in vs2010 (64 bit) but deployed on a server with 32 bit ?

Maybe this is obvious to some people but I have to ask cause I'm not sure about this.

Thanks in advance

Visual Web Developer 2010 Internal Web Browser - Browser Standard

I do not know what term to use for this one. I am wondering what standard (the "term" i think is right) does the internal web browser follows? Is it the same with Chrome, Netscape or Safari? because recently I notice that the Internal Web Browser of Visual Web Developer shows different output compare to Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and Internet Explorer 8.. Here are the screen shot of the output from different browser. Windows 7 - WPF - Framework 3.5 - Content not displaying in developer or when running

Help. I seem to have broken WPF 3.5 on my development box.  If I bring up VS2008 and create a new, blank WPF app, it does not display the designer.  If fact, I can see the desktop wallpaper through VS 2008.  If I run the app, I get a window with the same see-through properties.  Plus if I drag the app window around, it leaves artifiacts all over the screen. If I create a new WPF 4.0 app in VS 2010 - no problem.  If I target the app to 3.5 - the designer does not go crazy, but I get the same run-time issue as with VS 2008. Please help! L. Access Denied creating a web application in SP Foundation 2010 installed on windows 7 with local acc

I've installed SharePoint foundation over windows 7 with a local account using this guide: http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112

When I try to create a new web application the ribbon button is disabled. Using the link located in /_admin/createsite.aspx I get an "Access Denied" error message.

I access the SP Administration with the same user used during installation. This user is local admin and member of SQL server roles "securityadmin" and "dbcreator".

Any idea about this error?

Thanks in advance
