Resource File: Windows Media 9 Series Digital Rights Management

If you have an application that handles Windows Media content and you need an effective way to track content usage, Windows Media 9 Series now offers Digital Rights Management (DRM). It allows you to take advantage of the peer-to-peer distribution model and still redirect users back to your app once they have downloaded your content (prior to viewing).

Can't save SQL Server Management Studio sql file back into Sharepoint Document Library

I created an sql query file in SQL Server Management Studio and saved it onto my hard drive.  I then moved that file into a Sharepoint Document Library so others on my team could use that query.I opened the file from within sharepoint, it launched SSMS.I made a change to the file and pressed save.here is the error message that comes up."The operation could not be completed.  The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"Am I doing something wrong?

Problem trying to attach database file to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

I was trying to attach a database to SQL Server MGT Studio and got an exception error.  The message stated that the database file I was trying to attach could not be opened because it was version 661.  The SQL Server shows to support version 655 and earlier.  It states that a downgrade path is not supported. Question:  Is there some download ; fix; I can make to SQL Server 2008 that will allow me to attach the version 661????  I am not technical at all.  Please speak slowly.  :)  Thanks

SQL Server Management Studio crashes when browsing to open a file...

SSMS has started crashing on me frequenly in the last 24 hours--perhaps related to the latest round of updates?  It always happens when I'm attempting open a file and browsing to it.  This behavior seems new.

This is the dialog box I get:

Management Studio extract to flat file tool outputs dates with 9 digits after the point (unparseable

I hope this is the right forum for this. I tried exporting data from a table using this procedure:

  • SQL Server Management Studio -> Right-click on database -> Tasks -> Export Data...
  • Source: SQL Server, Destination: Flat File destination (delimited).

The data was correctly exported, but when I try to parse the file using FileHelpers, DateTime.ParseExact() fails for any date with non-integer seconds: I discovered the decimal part of the number of seconds has 9 digits, while DateTime.ParseExact() accepts only up to 7 digits, even with a custom format.

//The output date has the following format, and I can't:
// either find a format that accepts it,
// or prevent SQL server from outputting all those digits.
 "2010-10-12 16:21:10.960000000",
 "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.FFFFFFFFF", //This doesn't work
//A FormatException is thrown.

Can't find "Recent files" in File menu SQL Management Studio 2008

After installing SSMS 2008 the menu item File->Recent files   disappeared. I tried to add this item via Tools-> Customize. Now I can see it in menu "File" but it still doesn't work. I click on it but there is no result. What should I do to fix this problem. It is very inconvenient to open files with File->Open->File.

SQL Server Management Studio - File Encoding

I have been searching the forums for this issue and I haven't found anything on it so I apologize in advance if this issue has already been covered. My eyes are droopy and the coffee supply is low.

Is there a way to always save a file as UTF-8 or ANSI in SQL Server Management Studio? In analyzer you could save as ANSI, etc.

Can't attach my project database (.mdf file) using SQL Server Management Studio R2

Hi.  I've encountered a strange issue in SQL Server Management Studio (not the express version).  I had to uninstall SQL Server 2008 Developer in order to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer.  As a result of doing this, the database from one of my ASP.NET MVC projects is not attached to the database server.  I see the ".mdf" file in my project's AppData folder in Windows Explorer, but I can't navigate to it in SQL Server Management Studio.  I go to "C:\Users\<my name>" and the attach database interface will not let me go any further.  The folder that I need to access is "C:\Users\<my name>\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\NerdDinner\NerdDinner\App_Data".  How can I access this directory from SQL Server Management Studio?  Is there some sort of strange permission issue?  Thanks in advance for any help.

Any idea if Information Rights Management (IRM) will support additional file types in future version

In Sharepoint 2007, IRM supports Excell, Word and PowerPoint out of box...

Any idea if there will be additional out of box support for filetypes such as PDF, TIFF, Outlook Emails (.msg)...?

I am hoping to avoid creating custom protectors to protect the files and building an add-ons to software such as Adobe Reader to understand the RMS licences...

Looking forward to additional suggestion as well...

File Splitter in .Net

I love to do utility programs in .Net. And this is one of them. As I was playing with JSplit (a free file splitter program), I wondered if I could do it in .Net. The framework supports file operations like reading files in bytes and creating them. It is indeed easy to do file operations in .Net Basics on File operations

Upload a File to a SharePoint Document Library - Part I

The following helper class demonstrates a few techniques that allow documents to be uploaded to a SharePoint document library programmatically without using the API or a custom web service. You don't need to specify a document library name, and it will create any folders specified in the URL as required. File meta data will be updated if any properties are passed.

SmtpClient and Locked File Attachments

Got a note a couple of days ago from a client using one of my generic routines that wraps SmtpClient. Apparently whenever a file has been attached to a message and emailed with SmtpClient the file remains locked after the message has been sent. Oddly this particular issue hasn't cropped up before for me although these routines are in use in a number of applications I've built.

ClientAccessPolicy file in SharePoint 2010

I am upgrading my Silverlight demo code from the old beta to beta 2 and see that there are a few new considerations for the deployment of ClientAccessPolicy.xml files. In a previous post I demonstrated how to do this for SharePoint 2007. The heartburn that I get with that approach is any site collection owner or designer can drag the file into the site collection and open the site up to unwanted client access issues. In 2010 the virtual path provider no longer serves the files from the root of the site collection
