How can I use unobtrusive validation with partial views

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 14, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

Hello Experts,

Tools: MVC3, Razor, unobtrusive validation

In my project I'm using a partial view at the top of the page to collect information. I'd like to use this view in other pages because its functionality is common.

The partial view, CreateRequestorInformation, looks like this:

@model NSForms.Models.RequestorInformationVM

    <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery-1.4.4.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.unobtrusive.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script>

    @{ Html.EnableClientValidation(); }

    @using (Html.BeginForm("Create", "RequestorInformation"))
            <div id="divRequestorInformation">
                <-- content that needs to be validated -->

Ajax and Validation on Partial Views

I have a main page "Index". Index page has 2 partial views 1. "CategoryList"- list with bunch of checkboxes2. "Add Category" - 1 text field -"BlogCategoryName" with "create" buttonWhat i want to do is when someone types in a new "CategoryName" in the text field of "Add Category" partial view it would send via Ajax to AddCategory controller then it would return a new List and Update "CategoryList" on the index page.Questions:How would i achieve this? so that validation works (ie when CategoryName is blank it would return that partial view with validation) however when successfully validated it would return a new list and update the "CategoryList" partial view.What's the best approeach?would I use JSON or AJAX?thanks

Code behinds in MVC2 - How to inject auto-generated code into views via partial classes?

Background:I have written a t4 template that basically replaces the work done by StronglyTypedResourceBuilder to give design time access to string resources as properties of classes, one class per resource file.  Why?  Well I needed to add some customer code that handles string token substitution and a few other customizations.  Anyway, the template is working out really well and I may blog on it soon.In the mean time though, following a common pattern, I have one .resx file for each view, master page, controller, etc.  I would really like my t4 template to add a property to each such entity that gives quick access the custom resource class associated with it.  For controllers this is easy.  T4MVC is ensuring that they are a all declared partial.  All I need to do is create the appropriate partial class in my output that declares a readonly property that returns an instance of the appropriate generated resource class.The Problem:I would like to do the same thing, inject generated code, into my views.  Were this traditional ASP.Net, each .aspx page would have a .aspx.cs page and possibly an .aspx.designer.cs page that are all partial classes extending in the aspx page's class definition.  There is no such thing by default in MVC and for good reason.  However, I think for my purposes, if there is a way to do this, it

Global navigation and partial views

I guess this is mostly a theory question since I'm very new to MVC.  If you have a global navigation tree, Countries --> States --> Cities for example, how do you correctly implement this in MVC2?  In my example, the view model for States does not contain Countries and the tree would break as it needs the Countries list to build the tree.

It sounds like this should be easy, but it doesn't sound right to include the entire model for a single State or City view.

MVC3 : Validation parameter names in unobtrusive client validation rules must start with a lowercase

I am migrating my application to MVC3 and getting this error message

Validation parameter names in unobtrusive client validation rules must start with a lowercase letter and consist of only lowercase letters or digits.

How can I ovoid it without going and modifying all my ViewModels

MVC3 Beta Razor Views - not partial classes

Why are Razor views not generated as partial classes? Making them partial classes gives us the option to have a code behind where we can do some of the stuff we're forced to do in the template itself in the code behind file.

Yes, I know the standard "go-to" thing is Html helper but I don't want to use Html helpers for these things as they are too specific to the view in question and besides, having a clutter of extension methods is just not the way to go.

I'd like to see Razor views generated as partial classes.

Problem with Partial Views and log out after timeout

In one of my mvc application's view I have an AJAX form:

<% using (Ajax.BeginForm("HandleAddForm", "Home", new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "ContentDiv", InsertionMode = InsertionMode.Replace, OnBegin = "beginFormLoadEffect", OnSuccess = "successFormLoadEffect" }, new { id = "AddForm" }))
   { %>

<% } %>

When user lefts the computer after five minutes he is beign automatiacally logged out . And when I submit form by clicking submit button the ContentDiv is beign filled with full site with login panel.  I.e. I want to show the full site with login panel NOT in the ContentDiv. Is there any way to avoid this behaviour?

Server side validation of Fileupload control not working

I've tried this method in my code behind to try and validate that the Fileupload control has a file or not. I get the error message the the event "Server Validate" cannot be found. Can anyone tell why? Thanks.

Public Sub CustomValidator1_ServerValidate(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs) Handles CustomValidator1.ServerValidate

' Get file name

        Dim uploadAvatar As FileUpload = DirectCast(AdvertisementForm.FindControl("uploadAvatar"), FileUpload)

        Dim UploadFileName As String = uploadAvatar.PostedFile.FileName

        If UploadFileName = "" Then
            ' There is no file selected
            args.IsValid = False
            Dim Extension As String = UploadFileName.Substring(UploadFileName.L

Custom views on .aspx webpage

Hi again, i have a client that needs me to create a custom view on thier webpage similar to Microsoft Word.

It goes about that, when I click on an image it redirects me to another page and must create a custom view for a certain paragraph on that page. I am not sure how to do this and wonder if anyone knows how.

I am using C# programming language if that helps at all. I Heard that using javascript would work but i dont know javascript yet so is there any alternative?

partial view, 2 controllers

This is my first visit to the forums, I hope someone here can help me

I'm writing a small webapplication for creating repair tickets and adding comments, really basic

now I'm writing this in MVC2

So I have 2 controllers, 1 HomeController that does everything related to the tickets (listing tickets, creating new ones, editing) and 1 controller for the comments

the edit view for the homecontroller contains a partial view for /comment/create

so /home/edit/ticketnumber can edit the title and status of the ticket on the left side of the screen, the right side of the screen contains the partial view for adding comments

this is done like this:

Html.Renderaction("Create", "Comment");

but if I look at the generated html code when running the app, both save buttons go to /home/edit/ticketnumber

so the comment is never saved.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can help me solve this

Why isn't my Views/Home/Home.Master file published when I publish my website?

Hi All,

I spent the better part of today hunting down an elusive error.  I was getting a message saying that it couldn't find the Index view for the Home controller, and it gave a list of locations it searched, e.g., ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx.  This was really confusing as the file definitely existing and was at ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx, the first place in the list of locations it searched for the view!

What I eventually discovered was that there was a file that did not get published when I used Visual Studio's "Publish" feature (this is on the "Build" menu).  That file was Views/Home/Home.master, and (as you can probably guess) is the master file used by Views/Home/Index.aspx.

Once I copied that file into place manually, it started working.  But I am left wondering--why???  Why does this file not get published?  It's a part of my project, I can see it in the solution explorer, and it's obviously a critical file that's necessary for the MVC app to run.  It has the same permissions as every other file in my project.  So why wouldn't it get copied?  And how can I fix it so it does get copied?

Thanks for any suggestions on this!

VS 2010 HTML validation "in CSS" option - where the hell is it?

In VS 2008 there is a very useful feature of background HTML validation - it checks if CSS class name is valid i.e. it exists in one of the linked css files. But VS 2010 Express does not do that any more. And the relevant setting in Options->Text Editor->HTML->Validation->in CSS is not there. Ok, maybe they made it paid for option? VS 2010 Professional? Not there. Or maybe VS 2010 Ultimate? Not a trace.

1. am I blind?

2. they decided it is too convenient to use and removed it?

3. they will "introduce" it in SP1?

What is going on? That one thing made me move back to VS 2008 web developer.

User validation Issue in xlsx file

I am validating user from Login.xlsx file. It was working fine by validating email and password from that file. For testing i got new file same contents of file but added some more user names.

So after that when i validating the user i am getting the following error "Data type mismatch in criteria expression".

But when i replaced the new to old one it is working fine. The contens of both files are the same. So why this kind of error happened.

set messageTemplateResourceName from resource file in Validation appication block.

  I am using Validation application block in my project and want to set validation message from resource file, but not able to do that. I tried giving the path of resource file in messageTemplateResourceType and name of resource in messageTemplateResourceName. But it did not help as I only receive the message if I have set something in messageTemplate even after setting the resource file.

Here is my code:

<validator lowerBound="1" lowerBoundType="Inclusive" upperBound="250"
              upperBoundType="Inclusive" negated="false" messageTemplate=""
              messageTemplateResourceType="Asurion.jCare.Common.Resources.UIResources.PerilTypeAndDetailsSection, Asurion.jCare.Common.Resources, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null"
              tag="" type="Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Validation.Validators.StringLengthValidator, Microsoft.Practices.Enterpris

Localize framework message from xml validation error

I need to validate an XML through XSD. I am using XMLReader (with XmlReaderSettings and

Validation_EventHandler to do it). Depend on users preference, I would like to change the output message generated by  Validation_EventHandler in french or english.

Any idea on how to perform this?
