SQL Server Express 2005 Installation Fails when No Instances of Express Qualify

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Windows update wants to install KB 2463332 for SQL Server Express 2005, however I have no instances of Express 2005 that qualify for the update. Please see summary of installation that follows.  I have manually installed KB 2463332 for the SQL Server 2005 instances and the update finished successfully - all instances of SQL Server 2005 have been updated, but KB 2463332 will not update the SQL Server 2005 Express instances. Why do my SQL Server Express instances not qualify? How do I get rid of this annoyance? Is there a registry entry that needs to be modified to keep this from recurring? Why is Windows Update trying to apply an update for a product with no qualifying instances? Can anybody please point me in the right direction.

SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 - installation issues

I'm receiving an error 11055 while trying to install SP3.  I've tracked the problem down to probably being the one described here , but unfortunately cannot follow the steps described there to resolve the problem as the tool they require has apparently been removed because it can damage installations.  Does anyone know another way of fixing this issue?

Silent installation of SQL Express 2005 SP3 (English) on localized European Windows Systems fails wi

Dear Colleagues,

We deliver C++ med. application with several prerequisites, including SQL Express 2005 SP3. All installations are flawless but!

The problematic installation is on German\French systems (this far it was Windows 7 32-bit, but I would expect it to fail on all flavors of supported Windows, including 64-bit, Vista etc).

sql server 2005 express sp3 installation completes but keeps asking for installation

I downloaded the update

This service pack upgrades all Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition instances and components to Service Pack 3 (SP3). If you need additional installation options, you should download this service pack at the Microsoft Download Center. For more information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 955706.

The installation completes with no error messages but Automatic Ppdates keeps providing this as an update.

How do I get out of this loop?

SQL Server Express 2005 - Installation Failure (1308)

Greetings gurus,

I've installed SQL Server Express 2005 on several computers successfully, but on two completely dissimilar computers it fails with the same error message. One is running Win2k + SP4; the other is WinXP + SP2. In both cases, the user has full Administrator rights.

The message occurs while installing the "SQL Server Database Services" component. It is (deep breath):

"Source file not found: d:\sql server\Setup\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.42_x-ww_dec6ddd2.manifest.  Verify that the file exists and that you can access it."

Here's a snippet from the SQL log:

Multiple XML files into SQL SERVER Express 2005

Hello. I am familiar with classic ASP and use this with MS SQL SERVER EXPRESS. I have an SQL table and want to import multiple XML files into this on a daily basis. I currently have 3 files, transferdata.vbs which loops through the XML files. FAQschema.xml which maps XML to the SQL database and test.xml shows the xml in the test file. If I run transferdata.vbs I get the following error "Error opening the data file" line 33 char 3. Microsoft Bulkload for SQL Server". My SQL table is called EnqOrd id (int), Debitor (varchar), PurchaseDate (varchar)     transferdata.vbs set objBL = CreateObject("SQLXMLBulkLoad.SQLXMLBulkLoad") objBL.ConnectionString = "Provider=SQLOLEDB; Data Source=XXXXXX\XXXXX; Initial Catalog=XXXX; User ID=XXXXX; Password=XXXXXX" objBL.ErrorLogFile = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\error.log" ' Here is the path to your XML files Const path = "E:\fuelsql\Teccom\XML\" Dim Text, Title, oFile Dim fso, oFolder, oFiles, wsh ' Object variables Text = "Folder " Title = "XML Files" Set wsh = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") ' Create FileSystemObject object to access the file system. SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

SQL Server Express 2008 Setup fails. Support Rule "Restart Computer" Failed

Hi, I have been trying to install SQL Server Express for most of the day now without any luck.  Whatever I do setup fails at the stage of Setup Support Rules, Rule "Restart Computer" - Failed.  Needles to say I have restarted (several times!) and I have tried downloading  and installing the "Advanced", "Tools" and "Basic" versions, all give the same error.  Trying a repair does the same.  I have been searching the net for an answer without success, any help would be MUCH appreciated. Further info: I am trying to install a stand-alone installation on to a single PC running under XP SP 3 with .NET 3.5 SP1 installed.  The PC did have some earler versions of SQL server installed but I (?hopefully?) removed all of these through Control Panel.  Before trying the first SQL install I installed Windows installer 4.5 and PowerShell 1.0 as per the Microsoft Instructions. Running SQL Server Configuration Manager results in an error (MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap in might not have been installed correctly).  A directory structure for SQL server exists in "Program Files".  Services MSC shows SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) as Automatic Statup (not running).  Trying to start this manually gives error 14001: "application configuration incorrect - re-install to fix" .......... Which is precisely what I'm trying to do.........:(

SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 Bootstrapper

Hi Guys,I am currently in the process of creating a bootstrapper for SQL2005 Express SP3 so I can slip it into a Visual Studio 2008 setup project.Here's what I did:1) I copied the SqlExpress-SP2 folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\SqlExpress) into a new folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bootstrapper\Packages\SqlExpressSP3)2) I replaced the eula.txt and sqlexpr32.exe with the new SP3 ones.3) I changed the following in product.xml:<Product xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/2004/01/bootstrapper" ProductCode="Microsoft.Sql.Server.Express.9.3">4) I changed the following in package.xml:<PackageFile Name="sqlexpr32.exe" HomeSite="SqlExprExeSP3" PublicKey="3082010A0282010100A2DB0A8DCFC2C1499BCDAA3A34AD23596BDB6CBE2122B794C8EAAEBFC6D526C232118BBCDA5D2CFB36561E152BAE8F0DDD14A36E284C7F163F41AC8D40B146880DD98194AD9706D05744765CEAF1FC0EE27F74A333CB74E5EFE361A17E03B745FFD53E12D5B0CA5E0DD07BF2B7130DFC606A2885758CB7ADBC85E817B490BEF516B6625DED11DF3AEE215B8BAF8073C345E3958977609BE7AD77C1378D33142F13DB62C9AE1AA94F9867ADD420393071E08D6746E2C61CF40D5074412FE805246A216B49B092C4B239C742A56D5C184AAB8FD78E833E780A47D8A4B28423C3E2F27B66B14A74BD26414B9C6114604E30C882F3D00B707CEE554D77D2085576810203010001"/>......    <Strings>        <String Name="DisplayNam

Which SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack to Install?

I have Windows 2008 Small Business Server Standard Edition.  When I scan for updates I get two different SQL service packs showing up, with the same KB955706 number.  I'm wondering which I should install, or if both, what order to install them in?  The first one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 The second one is labeled: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services Service Pack 3 For applications, I have Blackbaud The Financial Edge v7.78 (accounting package for clubs) installed that uses SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for its database engine.  The new upgrade for this software requires SP3 which is why I need to know which service pack to install.  Also, please let me know if there are any tricks to getting the service packs installed on 2008 SBS Standard Edition.  I know sometimes registry settings need to be changed for SQL service packs to be installed properly. Thank you for your help.

Connection to SQL Server 2005 Express?

Hi all, I've been reading other posts for awhile now and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm a Web Developer and not a DBA. I have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on my machine and it's working just fine. I also have the Management Studio Express CTP installed and working. I'm trying to connect to a database using a username and password (from ColdFusion Server which is working fine for external Oracle and Access databases, so that's not an issue), so I set up the server to allow mixed mode authentication. I can log in to the Management Studio using Windows authentication OR the username and password without any issues. I have TCP/IP enabled in the Configuration Manager and enabled. This seems like a ridiculous question, but I need to know the servername, port, username and password to connect to the database. I'm trying all combinations of things but nothing's working. If I put in as the server, 1433 as the port, and use the username and password that worked in Management Studio I get this: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect If I use MACHINENAME\SQLEXPRESS I get this: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer
