Using Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo to backup from remote SQL Server to local drive.

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

I'm trying to use the Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo class to connect to a remote SQL Server, perform a backup and save it to my local drive.

I currently can only connect to a remote SQL Server and backup and save the backup file to the remote SQL Server drives. The same happens when I connect to a local instance of SQL Server and backup a file, I can only save it to my local drive.

Is there a way to specify to the Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo to save to the [local] or [remote] machines?

How to connect to local instance of SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express ?

I just installed SQL Server 2008 Management studio Express on my Vista machine.

i tried connecting to local machine using :

.\sqlexpress, (local)\sqlexpress, or .\SQLExpress, MyPCNAME\SQLExpress

nothing is working, getting this error:

Cannot connect to PC-NAME\SQLEXPRESS. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

Please Help Installing SQL Management Studio (not Express) w/ local SQL Server Express

I have recently formatted my hard drive and over the past few days I've been reloading my software.  I have installed on my machine SQL Server Express 2005 SP3.  I prefer to have SQL Express running on my development machine because that is what my customers primarily use.  I also have a full MSDN license, and I would need to install SQL Management Studio 2005.  However, when I download the SQL Server 2005 Developer ISO from MSDN, and run the setup file I get an error message that states: Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Native Client failed because a higher version already exists on the machine.  To proceed, uninstall the higher version and then run Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Setup. I would assume the problem is that the copy of SQL Server - Dev Edition that is available through my MSDN subscription is using an earlier version of SQL Server 2005 (most likely the version prior to SP1.)  I would just unistall SQL Server Express 2005 SP3 and reinstall it with out any service pack updates.  The problem is that I also see within my Add or Remove Programs list  four SQL Server 2008 R2 entries, that I believe were installed when I installed Visual Studio Pro 2010 (they are, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Framework, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Data-Tier Application Project, Microsoft SQL Server 20

Can't connect to SQL 2005 Enterprise using Management Studio with Server Name (only (local) works

This is a test system, everything running locally & no domains. Win 2003 Ent. Server & SQL Server 2005 Enterprise. I can't log into SQL Server Management Studio using the server name & using either Windows Authentication or SQL login. If I change the name of the server in the drop-down list to "(local)", I connect just fine (both Windows & SQL security modes). Shared Memory, Named Pipes & TCP/IP enabled in both server & client. Remote connections allowed. I have IP adresses (both & external IP) in my hosts file pointing to the server name. Does SQL require a DNS server? This wouldn't be a problem except for the fact that I can't install SQL 2005 SP3 due to authentication failure since there's no way to enter (local) as the server name. SQL tools (management studio, SP install) seem to see the SQL server running but won't authenticate the user through any means other than setting server name to (local). This is driving me crazy!!!

Getting "wrong" data out of a microsoft.sqlserver.management.smo.database object property (using pow

My problem:I do something like this:$dbsvr = new-object microsoft.sqlserver.management.smo.server "servername"$dbsvr.databases | ft name, size -autosizeWhen i run this from two different PC's i get database sizes that are all the same (5.25 mb), the size of the first database listed - which is master.I started to try out a few things, and found out that when i run the same command from one of our servers it returns the correct sizes...Anyone have any idea if this a SMO issue, or maybe some package software version issue...- or what?

Synchronizing Local SQL Server Database to Remote Database

I have production server on our intranet and we have website on remote server with its own database. Now we want to sync some tables from our local database to remote database at some interval of time. I have own idea that if data sync is fail than we should get email about that from remote database. For above scenario I was looking some ideas from you guys and different method to do it. I know about replication of database how to do that. Can we do it by asp.net, SSIS package  which will be easy. I need more information on SSIS package how we can do that.thank you.

Hi folks, about 1,5 months ago I have set up a - 1 server - development environment for PS2007. I had installed all components on one Windows 2008 box. Everything worked fine, now I receive an error. •MOSS 2007 •SQL 2008 SP1 •MOPS 2007 SP2 I have done the additional installation for the cube building part according to this page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd285466(office.12).aspx Microsoft SQL Server Native Client (sqlncli.msi) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Objects Collection (sqlserver2005_xmo.msi) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backwards Compatibility Components (SQLServer2005_BC.msi) Everything worked fine. Getting Sql Server Management Studio 2008 installed on local computer

Hello, I have been trying to figure out this problem for a while now so hopefully someone can help me out - I would really appreciate it! Right now I have SQl Server Management Studio2005 installed on my computer for a SQL sever that we have. We recently got a 2008 sql server and if I remotely access the server, I can see that SQL Management Studio 2008 has been isntalled on the new server. I need to build new databases but need SQL Management Studio 2008 on my computer and I have no idea how to get it. I have a "Microsoft SQl Server 2008 R2" folder on my computer, and I have already tried clicking on "Configuration Tools" and then "SQL Server Installation center" and it isntalls a bunch of things, but none of them are "SQL Server Management Studio 2008."  I also found a link on a Microsoft website that says it's SQL Server Management studio 2008 R2 but it was just the same bunch of programs I already downloaded. How do I install Sql Server Managment Studio 2008 on my computer?! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Problem trying to attach database file to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

I was trying to attach a database to SQL Server MGT Studio and got an exception error.  The message stated that the database file I was trying to attach could not be opened because it was version 661.  The SQL Server shows to support version 655 and earlier.  It states that a downgrade path is not supported. Question:  Is there some download ; fix; I can make to SQL Server 2008 that will allow me to attach the version 661????  I am not technical at all.  Please speak slowly.  :)  Thanks

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008 does not list all tables in database

When logging into SSMS 2008 to a SQL2008 database when I expand the tables in a database I only see a few tables listed.  I can login to the same instance with SSMS 2005 and all of the tables are there.  Is there a reason why this is this way?

I can do a select * from in a query window for any of the tables in the database via SSMS 2008 as well and it work fine.  It just does not display the tables.

All the above pocess should work automatically from the local database server because I need to update the remote one so that the website visitor can get the updated results in the morning.

I need a detailed description/ procedure to accomplish the work.

DBA needs to justify Local Admin access on SQL DB server to management

Can anybody point  me to documents that would substantiate the following assertion to my network manager:

"It's standard practice to have your SQL DBA administer the host server as  Windows local admin (a VM in this instance)."

My network & servers manager wants me to document why I, the DBA, need to have Local Admin access to the production database and reporting servers.  Part of the problem is that I sit with the application team, rather than net & servers.  However, I am an experienced production and development DBA in MS SQL Server (6.5 to 2008 R2) who has performed Windows local admin tasks in the past -- and will need to in the future.

Specifically I think I need local admin privileges in order to deploy and maintain the following:

SQL Agent b/u and maint. jobs; SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, 3rd party ETL (extract-transform-load), Log Shipping from production OLTP server to reporting server.  Creation of backup files on local disk.  SQL Server and OS performance monitoring.  Start and stop services.  Some Active Directory administration (for logins and groups)

Can anybody help me substantiate why I need local admin privileges on the database server -- even though I don't have formal Windows System Admin training, experience tells me I need local admin access in order t

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Question

I am new to writing stored proecedures and this will be my first stored procedure written with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.  I am familiar with working with VS 2010 and I have noticed that the IDE is very different.  So, let's start with the basics.  How do I go about adding a new stored procedure into the group of stores procedures that the project currently has.  I already know that name and the T-SQL code I need.  I just need to put it.
