Restoring an encrypted database (TDE) in SQL2008R2 executes forever.

Good day all,

Well this problem first occurred for me when moving from SQL2008 to SQL2008R2. Now I have reinstalled my database machine again and am going from 2008R2 to 2008R2 - same version this time, but same problem.

I have restored my master key and certificate successfully, and the restore seems to complete according to the status output, but the query executes infinitely and the database even after server restart is inaccessible.

Here is the restore code and output:

MSSQL 2008 R2 - database in restoring mode after backup - forever..

Hi folks,   i have this problem that occourred today with one instance of MSSQL 2008 R2 running on a WIN x64 R2 enterprise server.   i have run a backup maintainance job and now i have two databases in restoring mode for over 4hrs.   my questions are: why are these databases restoring when i was backing up? and why are they not being logged anywhere - i can not find anything on logs, activty monitor, or even Windows Resource Monitor.   i can not see any work been done by MSSQL to restore these databases, and yet they are set as 'RESTORING'.   any suggestion from the community here will be much appreciated as i am banging my head against the wall already.   thanks,   Nicolas    data warehouse | data migration | ETL/ELT | UK | http://www.brainpowered.net

Failure in restoring an database from tape - SQL Server 2005

Hello everyone, we are trying to restore one of our datebase from tape using the T-Sql commands. Using the GUI results in an timeout. The command we are using to start the restore is: RESTORE DATABASE RECOV FROM Tape = '\\.\tape0' WITH  FILE=2, RECOVERY, NOUNLOAD, STATS=5, MOVE 'xxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND' TO 'K:\RECOVER\data\RECOV.mdf', MOVE 'xxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND' TO 'K:\RECOVER\log\RECOV_log.ldf', REPLACE the restore proces start without any problem, only ending with this: Processed 2598808 pages for database 'xxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND', file 'xxxx_PROD_Data' on file 2. Processed 3 pages for database 'xxxx_OPL_xxxx_ZEELAND', file 'xxxx_PROD_Log' on file 2. Msg 3229, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Request for device '\\.\tape1' timed out. Msg 3213, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Unable to unload one or more tapes. See the error log for details. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. In the eventlog, the following is recorded: BackupTapeFile::UnloadTape: PrepareTape(UNLOCK) failure on backup device '\\.\tape0'. Operating system error 21(The device is not ready.). For as far we can judge, the tapedrive is functioning without problems. Using the same tape in an other tapedrive on an different server results in the same error. Restoring 2008 Database with Filestream - Process cannot access file error

I'm trying to restore a copy of a database that has a filestream and am getting the error below. I've tried with move option to specify a new path and left it with default path, neither worked. Did a trace with procmon, didn't see anything. FileStream1 is a new folder that the restore process creates. I've deleted the folder, tried it with a new name, re-took the backup from the source machine, restarted SQL, rebooted the machine, drive permissions are open. I've run out of ideas on how to debug further. Looking up the error online wasn't much help either. Msg 3634, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The operating system returned the error '32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)' while attempting 'OpenFile' on 'X:\Data\FileStream1\4ecb2e48-0eee-4c99-a3f0-f1e6c7f00b24\f2efe374-9481-4c1b-a7f2-dcdcee350807\0000001b-0000aaa6-00f6'. Restoring 2008 Database with FileStream - CreateFile Sharing Violation

Restore database from file and reduce datafile while restoring

SQL 2005 Standard.

I want to restore a database from a .bak file. This bak file is referred to a database with fixed size datafile but they are bigger than I need for the new database.

Is there a way to reduce datafile size, during restore process ? I ask this because I will have to do this operation programmatically.

Thanks!

Restoring a Content Database to an earlier MSSQL backup?

We'd like to roll back a content database to an earlier point in time. Is this doable by just shutting down the frontend, and then restoring the MSSQL WSS_Content database, or are there some quirks that we need to take into account?

Restoring content database to another server

Error while restoring database,

Hi,
Im trying to restore a database, when i try to restore by selecting the file groups option it gives me an error Microsoft SQL DMO The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing database. RESTORE DATABASE terminated abnormally.
I tried deleting all the tables and the stored procedures that are there, but it still gives the same error.

Is backup encrypted if database is encrypted?

Particularly, if I encrypt a database can I send a backup of it over a non-secure FTP with relatively high assurance it cannot be accessed?

Thanks!

Restoring sql server database with stored procedures

Hi,

I have a database that needs restoring to get a website up and running.  I am not a ASP developer (am PHP) and therefore have never used SQL Server before.

I have just tried to import one of the tables from a .txt file using SQL Server Management Studio 8 and instead of the column names being inputed, it just has "column 0", "column 1" etc.  I have noticed that I have a folder full of stored procedures, am I supposed to import these first?  Im not 100% what these stored procedures are for or the best way for me to import all this data successfully as I have so many files it will take forever to import one by one.  I dont mind doing it one by one if I have to but just want to ensure I do it all correctly first time!

Many thanks

SQL Server 2008 TDE - should the ReportServer database be encrypted with TDE

The ReportServer database (and ReportServerTempDB) contains encrypted data...but when all the databases on an instance are encrypted using TDE, are there any issues with also encrypting the ReportServer/ReportServerTempDB database that happen to be on that same instance? (I am not concerened with performance issues, unless they would definitely be severe for SSRS.)

restoring master database

we are currently running on sql 2008 and will be moving to sql 2008 r2 on a new server.    I'm trying to restore and master database on the new server but can't get connected (started in single user mode) in management studio.    Any ideas?   There shouldn't be any other connections.   I'm remoted into the actual server and the instance name is correct.   I'm getting the following message:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
