I am checking out an application performance issue on a particular (distributed SQL express) machine - and now have the machine back in my possession. I have narrowed it to SQL and/or our application.
In short SQL seems 'hesitant' - SSMS connects first time sometimes, fails another time, disconnects after being connected and so-on. I'm connecting to the machine via real simple cable-hub-cable, and I'm positive its not networking as I'm RDP'd onto the
machine and get quick responses whilst SSMS is being moody.
SQL logs show nothing, neither default trace or custom trace show anything, or windows logs.
In SSMS I have a query open, it returns immediately on some runs and takes 2 mins on other runs - it is a tiny query, straight select.
The treeview in SSMS is sporadically taking a long time to respond and times out sometimes - other times it was connected and then prompts for authentication ....fails to connect, you cancel, then reconnects first time after that.
...something odd is happening.
There are loads of other angles I have tried - autoclose is disabled by the way.
Anyone experiencing this sort of behaviour elsewhere or have any thoughts ? I use SQL connections and technologies everywhere in my normal working day - this has me scratching my head.
Thanks for your brain cycles in advance !
