Stored XML Data and the CDATA Tag

Posted By: Posted Date: April 10, 2011 Points: 0 Category :

I’m using a SQL Server 2005 database and xml inserted in a xml data type column is encoded and the cdata tag is removed. This is by design: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/298860/xml-cdata-tag-is-lost-when-converting-to-xml-data-type

Value Inserted: <person><parents><![CDATA[Mike & Angela Smith]]></parents></person>

Value Returned from a Select: <person><parents>Mike & Angela Smith</parents></person>

I’m retrieving the xml value from the database using Linq-to-Xml (XElement object) and, ideally, I want to create a xml file on disk that is the same as the value inserted without any special treatment such as decoding each text element and adding the CDATA tags back in.

What is the best way to handle this scenario?

Data Truncation issue with Enterprise Library Logging WriteLog stored Proc

Hi ,

I'm using Enterprise Library Logging feature for logging. The issue i am facing is when the Logging message is too large(more than 65534 chars) ,complete data is not logged in the Formatted Mesage column which is of data Type nText .

I am able insert complete data if i try inserting from Sql insert Query from sql management studio. Do i need to add any attributes to data base listener or do i need to change the sp.

Is there any way to increase the WriteLog stored proc param size in EnterpriseLibrary.Logging config file ? . Please let me know.

Thanks In Advance.

.NET Reflection: Dynamically Bind Your Data Layer to Stored Procedures and SQL Commands Using .NET M

One major inconvenience of using SQL stored procedures from code is having to match type information. You have to write long wrapper functions around the procedures just to expose the data types. In the .NET Framework, however, the reflection services of the System.Reflection namespace allow you to query rich metadata that describe data types. This article explains how to use reflection in .NET to end your stored procedure nightmares. The author creates four custom classes, including one that generates a SQLCommand object based on the metadata of a method. Using this library, you'll be on your way to automating the generation of stored procedures.

Trying to run a stored procedure from vb code with oracle data provider.

Here is my SP:

create or replace
Open p_getuserssignon_recordset1 for
SELECT Distinct(Userid), UserPassword, SecurityLevel, ActiveStatus
WHERE substr(UserId,1,2) <> vUid
Order By UserId;

I would like to run this SP from code and fill a gridview with the result.

I am not sure how to go about this, as I have found several different examples, other than the one I think I need.

I am using the oracle data provider and I have an input parameter (vUid, which will equal "zz").

First question. When filling a gridview with a result set from a stored procedure should the recordset OUT be defined as a REFCURSOR (like i did above)?

Do you have example code as to how to execute the SP and fill a gridview? I keep trying different variations of code i've found on the internet without any success other than getting more confused.

(I am using VS 2005, VB).

Thank you.

Entity Framework 4.0 Dynamic Data - stored procedure

I'm using Dynamic Data and have created a custom List.aspx page. I simply want to populate the grid with a stored procedure. I've seen some posts about doing this with a LinqDataSource but not an EntityDataSource. Does someone have an example or a different way of doing this? Thanks.

can a Workflow access a stored procedure and pass the parameters from the list data to the stored pr

The reason that I would like to consider this functionailty is because my table architecture is complicated and I do not want to modify my master table to accept all of this data where some of the data should be normalized into sub tables. Has anyone see evidence of the stored-procedure parm approach? Is this best accomplished through VS 2010 or can I do it through SPD? Thanks

How to pass the file path in EXEC of Stored Proc for getting IIS Logfile data

Hello, I need to get IIS Logfile data from Stored Proc. How to do this. I am using Bulk Insert Method in my stored Proc When I execute the stored proc I am getting an error that Incorrect syntax near 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\Logfiles\W3SVC1\ex100802.log'. Below is the code. Create PROCEDURE spWebLog @path varchar(300) AS begin exec('BULK INSERT Weblog from''' + @path + ''') end go Declare @SQL Varchar(100 ) Set @SQL= 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\Logfiles\W3SVC1\ex100802.log' exec spWebLog @SQL

Reading data to a table from a stored proc

This has me brain locked. 1. I've got a stored procedure. 2. It does a select with a couple joins. I want to take the results of that stored proc and read them into some a table -- temp table would be ideal. here's my (really tough) constraints... these really complicate things: 1. the stored proc uses dynamic SQL. As a consequence, I don't know the columns it's going to return (it's kind of the whole point of using it). 2. Since the stored proc uses dynamic SQL, it needs to use sp_executesql internally. What won't work(i don't think?): 1. I can't create a function that returns a table and does a "return select * from....", since you can't (I don't think?) call a stored a stored proc in the return statement of a function 2. I can't just do an "Insert into #xyz exec .." because I can't pre-define the temp table (I think this is needed?). 3. I don't have a linked server. and i'd rather not. All of this runs local in the same instance of SqlServer, and will have to handle loads of volume (each hit will return a few million rows). So (I think?) OPENQUERY is out. 4. OPENROWSET is a possibility, I suppose, but again, everything is running locally. I think that goes through OLEDB (?) and I'm not sure that's even an option. THOUGHTS??? HELP?? is it even possible?? Pl

No Return Type for a Stored Procedure in a Linq to SQL Data Layer

Hello. First, I don't know if this is the right forum section to post this in, but I couldn't fine a more suitable one. Feel free to move this if it's totally worng. I have a weird problem when using LINQ to SQL and Store Procedures with a return value... The problem is that when I drag my SP's onto the "Methods Pane" the property field "Return Type" is set to (None) and greyed out. And here's the most weird thing... I created a test SP yesterday wich returned SCOPE_IDENTITY() and it worked flawlessly. Dragged it onto the "Methods Pane", could play with the return type property (hence it was not greyed out) and everything was working out nice. I used a ISingleResult<T> and could fetch the .ReturnValue... Today I was going to contiune to create the rest of the SP's i needed with a return type but today when I drag my Store Procedures to my Methods Pane, I couldn't access the Return Type property... I even dragged the SAME procedure I used yesterday (wich then worked great) and now I can't get the dbml-layer to notice that there is a return value... I've tried to create new solutions, new Data Layers, used different databases/servers, but still the same problem... Don't really know if it's LINQ or something else that's causing this... This is how part of my SP wich I used yesterday to test looks

As a Sharepoint Client are SharePoint data files stored on my local PC unknowningly?

I am strictly a SharePoint user and I access the Sharepoint Server on my client PC. If I open a file simply to read it while it's on the server (not checking-it our for edit or anything like that) is that file written to a temp file or directory on my PC for any specific period of time. Example when I veiw the SharePoint file or log off the Sharepoint Server?

XML data stored in text field

Hi there, I need to extract XML data stored as text from any number of given rows of a table. The stored XML data typically looks like this: In the ATTRIBUTES field from NODEMEATADATA table <T41><A93>S46 SE Trade & Investment</A93><A35>3284</A35><A84>28 November 2008</A84><A33>S Polkinghorn Bband</A33><A46>S46 0501-KEYF Keyfort Limited</A46><A89>400.68</A89><A90>0</A90><A88>400.68</A88><A66>560200 Broadband</A66><A70>ITAC</A70><A54>N/A</A54><A86 /><A87>Awaiting Posting</A87><A91>Mashudul Karim</A91><A94>Chris Burchell</A94><A92 /></T41> I need to be able to extract the invoice numbers from any number of rows based on a WHERE clause that referes to another column of a date/time format. The invoice numbers are with the <A35>****</A35> tags What I have noticed in the table is that element is not always the same. SOme are <T41> some <T6> or <T7> which I think might have something to do with the document status within the <A87> tags. If possible I need to pick up within multiple elements. I then need to add this to my current simple query: SELECT METAID, CONVERT(VARCHAR(10), CAST(CAST(CREATEDON AS VARCHAR) AS DATETIME), 103) AS 'CREATED', FROM N

Calling Stored Procured in SSIS from database moving data into another Database

I am just wondering if this is a feasible option within SSIS.

I have a source database on one server, a destination database on another server

The source database has a stored procedure which returns lets say 500 records. 300 are inserts the rest updates. (Based on some column)

So in SSIS I call this SP, following this im able to loop through the records returned figure out wether its Insert or Update and then move the data to destination table.

Create Excel file dynamically in SSIS package and fill it by resultset data returned by Stored proce

Hello Every One,

I have a scenario in which i am executing a Stored Procedure which returned a result set.

I want to create a Excel file [name_date_time] dynamically, and fill result set data into Excel file. And then finally sent Excel file to Specific user[Email ID].

Point is that the excel file should have unique name so i want to give name as name_date_time.

So every time when package run new file is created with unique name.

Can any one suggest me who to create Excel file and fill result set data into Excel file.

And then finally send that Excel file ?
