Add Issue ID to an email alert?

Dear all,

(running WSS 3.0)

I'm desperately trying to add the Issue ID to the alert email that is sent when a list item is assigned to you. I have looked around and followed many tutorials online, however none of my changes have had any effect. So far I have done:

  1. Copied alerttemplates.xml to customalerttemplates.xml
  2. Edited customalerttemplates.xml
  3. Removed "ID" from <ImmediateNotificationExcludedFields>
  4. Ran stsadm -o updatealerttemplates -url http://server -filename "C:\Program files\common files\Microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\template\XML\customalerttemplates.xml"
  5. Ran iisrest
  6. Restarted Sharepoint Timer service

However even after doing that the email sent when an item is assigned is just the basic default! I've just tried to add the ID to the most simple section of the email (footer) however nothing seems to change the email alert.

I've followed guides such as:

very simple asp:RegularExpressionValidator for Email not working

My implementation is simple. I have a public static variable in a class called EmailHelper containing my regular expression as follows:namespace Base.Core.Utilities { public static class EmailHelper { public const string EMAIL_REGEX = @"^([a-zA-Z0-9]+([\.+_-][a-zA-Z0-9]+)*)@(([a-zA-Z0-9]+((\.|[-]{1,2})[a-zA-Z0-9]+)*)\.[a-zA-Z]{2,6})$"; } } I then have the following web controls on my page:<asp:Panel ID="pnlChangeEmail" runat="server" DefaultButton="btnChangeEmail"> <asp:Label ID="lblChangeEmail" AssociatedControlID="txtEmail" runat="server">New email:</asp:Label> <asp:TextBox ID="txtEmail" runat="server" CssClass="textfield"></asp:TextBox> <asp:LinkButton ID="btnChangeEmail" OnClick="Change_Email" runat="server" ValidationGroup="ChangeEmail" CssClass="btn"> <strong><asp:Literal runat="server" ID="litSubmit" Text='<%$ Resources: GlobalResource, SUBMIT %>' /></strong> </asp:LinkButton> <asp:RequiredFieldValidato

Immediate alert email body is truncated intermittently in MOSS 2007

Hi All, I  am facing one issue with Alert. We have one Posts list in one of the Blog where Alert Me generates immediate alert for the users who have subscribed to the Blogs. Whenever any new Post added, edited or deleted they used to get alerts. But in the alert email, the body of the alert which normally contains the Post decsription gets truncated intermittently. Sometimes it is truncated with less than 2048 characters in the Body filed and some times with more than 4098 characters. I found in some articles that the limitation is 2048 characters in one line after whcih the new line is expected , else the text will be truncated. I am not able to find the logic behind this truncation in default sharepoint alert functionality. Could you please give some more insights on this front? Thnaks:)

Incomming Email Not Working Correctly in SharePoint 2010

Hello everyone, We recently upgraded from SharePoint 2007 to 2010. Prior to the upgrade I had two SharePoint Document libraries setup to receive incoming emails. We had two reports scheduled in Reporting Services and each report emailed a document library once a week. After the upgrade this stopped working. The reason this stopped working was because the file names of the attachments were the same each week, however in 2007, sharepoint would append a random 4 digits to the end of the file name. Was the removed from 2010 on purpose? After discovering this didn't work, I decided to create a workflow on these lists that anytime and item is added go change the file name to include the list ID to ensure that the file names will be unique. Only to find out that items added to the list from the incomming emails do not trigger the workflow. Doing some research on this and it looks like it was turned into Mircosoft as a bug in 2007 which had a fix, but the fix is only for 2007 is doesn't say it applies to SharePoint 2010 so I don't want to install it. Anyone know if there is a fix for this in SharePoint 2010? Thanks in advance, Matt

Custom Email Alert template creating links to DispForm.aspx

I have a requirement to customise the alert template for a standard blog post list. To do this I: 1. Created a copy of alertstemplate.xml 2. Copied the genericList alert template node and customised 3. Registered the new template file against the site collection, iisreset and finally assigned the new Alert template to the list, when alerts are created the custom template is emailed. The problem now arises that the 'View <Post Title>' in the toolbar section now creates a hyperlink to http..../Lists/Posts/Dispform.aspx?ID=xx rather than post.aspx. I have checked using sharepoint designer that the list supporting files has the correct display item form of Lists/Posts/Post.aspx. Additionally if I reset the alert template for the list back to use the Generic list template the same problem still occurs so this leads me to believe it is not the customisations that are the problem. Code used to assign the alert template to the Posts list: var ats = new SPAlertTemplateCollection((SPWebService) site.WebApplication.Parent); var newTemplate = ats[alertName]; if (newTemplate == null) { // We did not find the specified Template. throw new Exception("Failed to find template SPAlertTemplateType.NewsPost in the template collection."); } list.AlertTemplate = newTemplate; list.Update(); Any assistance will be most welcome, thanks in advance. Lotus Notes users get "Authentication Required" when viewing an alert email with a graphic

(This is a SharePoint 2007 question, but I only see SharePoint 2010 in the Forum options...kind of odd since SharePoint 2010 has not been released.)If our users open email alerts in Lotus Notes, and the email has an image, they are presented with a prompt for credentials that says:"Authentication RequiredEnter your username for Unkown at sharepoint.ourcompany.comUsername________________________Password________________________[ ] Save these in an Account in my address book[OK][Cancel]"Emails without graphics do not prompt for credentials.Does anybody know why this happens, or how we can fix it?

Email alerts no longer working- please help.

Hello- I recently had a problem applying an SSL certificate to my MOSS 2007 site where I had to rebuild a lot things in order to get the site back up and running.  Now that it is, I can no longer get email alerts to the users.  The odd thing is that when I set up a calendar event, only me (the site administrator) receives an automated message from 'Administrator@xyz.com'???  This tells me that the smtp settings are correct.  I have found severl posts about this but they are all from developers who think that everyone knows how to program and so their answers are not step by step for me to at least try them out?  Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I have setup SharePoint to be accessed via the internet and configured aam.

I can access the site from the Internet, but whenever i setup an alert on a library, the email that is sent out contains a link showing the internal url, not the Internet URL.

I need the email to show the external URL.

Any ideas?
