Issues with SQL CLR debugging using VS2010 and SQL 2008 R2

I upgraded a VS 2008 SQL CLR project, which worked perfectly, to VS 2010 SP1.  However, I did not have to debug the CLR routines until today.  Now, whenever I attempt to debug a change to my code, the deployment succeeds (the new function is listed in the database), but the debugging never occurs because although it says that is successfully attached (“Auto-attach to process '[1696] [SQL] stx3-desktopx64' on machine 'stx3-desktopx64' succeeded”).  It also says that it was “Canceled by user”, which it certainly was not.  I have also tried simply debugging on a different machine, which had NO changes made at all to the project, and it generates exactly the same messages.  I have also changed the target from Any CPU to x86 to x64 to no avail.  Both test machines use a local SQL instance that is x64, as is the version of Win 7.  I read one article that suggested manually deploying the routine would help, but it changes nothing.  Every debug attempt results in the same messages after 20-30 seconds of waiting.  On VS 2008, t

Debugging Issues in Windos 7 & Visual Studio 2008

(I can see debugger still running)Does any one have come across the same issue please shed me some light.Thanking you in advanceNathanI had the same issue in the XP after installing IE 8. VS2010 Professional .NET 4.0 Remote Debugging ASP Website Project

Trying to remote debug ASP website from VS2010 Pro to Windows Server 2003 machine.  Specifically, trying to debug a Web Service, but breakpoint says, "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document."  This happens for all compiled code though.  I have read this is due to missing PDB files and the work around is to manually copy them, as noted here.  Problem is, I cannot find any PDB files for my project, except referenced libraries, which I can remote debug.

  • web.config has <compilation debug="true">
  • Debugger is attached to wewp.exe process on remote server
  • Installed VS2010 remote debugger from DVD (as I can remote debug referenced libraries)

This is beyond frustrating.  I migrated my code from VS2008 .Net3.5 to VS2010 .Net4.0 to take advantage of the inherent multithreading framework.  Debugging works when using local host and was stable until deployment to test server.

Thanks in advance,

Convert 2005 RDLC to 2008 using VS2010

Hi and thanks.

I'm getting an error on serveral reports that I built  in VWD2005 (express) using the reportviewer control.  Trying to edit the rdlc file in VS2010, VS2010 asks if i want to convert the file to RDLC 2008 format and I click ok.  When I build the site, I get this error (and of course also when the report is ran):

Error 1 The report definition is not valid.  Details: The report definition has an invalid target namespace 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2008/01/reportdefinition' which cannot be upgraded. C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mastercardlcm\Reports\WorkLists\OpenSRStatus.rdlc 1

Here is my web.config concerning the RDLC assemblies, etc.

SSRS 2008 R2 Add-in Performance Issues

I have a very interesting issue with a customer.  They use lots of images in their reports.  The report performance is very poor after deploying the report to Sharepoint Integrated Mode and executing the report from Sharepoint Report Viewer.   The single server is setup with SQL Server 2008 R2.  Sharepoint and Reporting Services are running all on the same server.    The goal is to be able to use the Report Viewer Web Part and Sharepoint Filters to create Dashboards.   We have tried the following ways to get satisfactory performance out of these reports:  ·         When we run the reports in a page viewer web part in Sharepoint against a native SQL 2008 Report Manager on another server, they execute great ·         When we run the reports in a page viewer web part in Sharepoint against the Sharepoint Integrated Report server on same server, they execute way more quickly then when using the Report Viewer against the same Sharepoint Integrated Report server . ·         When we remove the images from the reports  and execute the reports via report viewer or in the Integrated library they execute satisfactorily in both Report Manager and Sharepoint Integrated - but th

View Temporary Tables While Debugging in SQL 2008

How can I view temporary tables while debugging in SQL 2008? Note: I do not want to add a SELECT statement everywhere I need to see the contents of the temporary table. I'm hoping there is another way...like can it be done in the command window somehow, etc?

Issues in GetItemDataSources web service call in 2008 Report Server R2

Hi, I'm using Reporting Services web services endpoint ReportService2005.asmx with 2008 report server R2 and I'm facing some issues in getting the data source names for a report definition using the GetItemDataSources web service. The problem is that the data source names returned are different from the names of the actual data sources on the report server. The report has the following data sources: 0 1 _0 _A Data Source And the names returned by the GetItemDataSources for 2008 report server R2 is: AutoGen_0 AutoGen_1 AutoGen__0 AutoGen__A Data_Source When I make the same calls using a 2005 report server, the names returned are the same as that in the report definition. To summarize, only numeric data source names are changed to "Autogen_<number>"(eg. Autogen_0), data source names beginning with "_" are changed to "Autogen_<data source name>"(eg. AutoGen__A)  and spaces are replaced by an "_".   What is the problem for the data source names returned for 2008 report server R2? Or has there been any change in the way in which report server stores the data source names? Thanks, Kulbhushan Singhal.

How to enable debugging in Visual Studio 2008 upgraded from Visual Studio 2005?

Hi,  I have upgraded a Visual Studio 2005 Web Site in a 32 bit server to Visual Studio 2008 maintaining the same 2.0 framework in a 64 bit server with Windows 2008 R2 Server.  The Web Site has several class libraries.  After porting to Visual Studio 2008 2.0 Framework using the Upgrade Wizard, I found that I was unable to hit a break point in the Project code behind files while I was able to in the class libraries.  The bin folder has the dlls and the corresponding pdb files for the class libraries. I did start the Web site as an Administrator and made sure whole bunch of IIS7 properties are properly set.  I tried to rebuild the solution as a Web Application in Visual Studio 2008 and gave up that approach as I faced hundreds of error messages pointing to missing references and namespaces inspite of adding whole lot of references and namespaces to the Web pages.   Appreciate your help in solving this puzzle.thanks,Dallas Developer

Debugging a Windows Service (VS 2008 / .NET 3.5) Using Debugger.Launch()

Hi, Everybody! I wrote a Windows Service using VS 2008 (.NET 3.5).  I wish to debug it.  I am able to build it and install it successfully.  When I start the service, the Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger (VS JIT Debugger) appears displaying the following message: An unhandled exception ("Launch for user") occurred in <WindowsService> [3392] (or [2560] or [5180] or ...).  I select the following Possible Debuggers <WindowsService> - Microsoft Visual Studio: Visual Studio 2008 and click the Yes button.  This is followed immediately by the following dialog box: Caption: Microsoft Visual Studio, Message: There is no source code available for the current location.  Clicking the Show Disassembly button results in displaying the disassembly.  The call stack shows mscorlib.dll!System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Launch() + 0x6a bytes.  The exception apparently occurs in Debugger.Launch();.  If I choose to continue, I am able to debug the Windows Service, stopping at the specified break points.  Why does the VS JIT Debugger appear in the first place?  How can I use Debugger.Launch(); without the VS JIT Debugger appearing?  See code below... protected override void OnStart(string[] args) { try { Debugger.Launch(); var t = new Thread(Start); t.IsBackground = true

editing x64 app while debugging on vs2010

Unable to start T-SQL debugging SQL Server 2008

I'm getting exactly the same problem described here: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/dcc851e7-35d7-492a-b15c-7dffe47110ed --------------------------- Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio --------------------------- Unable to start T-SQL Debugging. Lastly (not sure if this is useful or not) I tried attaching to the Ssms.exe process from Visual Studio 2008 and I get the following output when I try debugging:  ... MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups install to Win 7 - Compatibility issues

I attempted to install MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups from the DVD to a Win 7 workstation.  Error "This Program has known compatibility issues.  The directions are to download the MSSQL Server Service Pack.  I downloaded SP 1 and SP 2.  Neither SP will install.  The DVD install also has a run option displayed along with the Compatibility message.  I select "Run" and it appeared to install, with Start\Programs\Microsoft SQL Server 2008\Configuration Tools\ SQL Server Installation Center 64bit.  However, running the 64bit installation process results in no change.  My question is how to install the MSSQL Server 2008 Workgroups on the Win 7 machine.  I would appreciate your thoughts.

SSIS 2005 & 2008 BIDS and VS2005/2008 Will VS2010 work with either SSIS package?

I've read the old posts about having to have the BIDS version match the SSIS package version. My question is with VS2010 is there any change? Can I edit either of the old versions of SSIS packages in VS2010 or do I have to have 3 versions of Visual Studio/BIDS on my machine? TIA J

Server 2008 R2 64 bit, SSRS 2008 64 bit with Report Builder 3.0 issues with Oracle OLE Driver

Folks, ran out of idea on this issues. Setup as shown at the Title. I can connect via VS 2010  but report builder cannot run properly when setup with connection string. I use a 32 bit Oracle Driver and VS 2010 works well with it, however, Report Builder on SSRS report a bad image issues while attempting to use the same driver. What have been tried: 1-Already attempted to try to download Oracle ODP drivers 64 bit, but current driver 11g and minor version above 11g does not install, installation failed. So far all chats indicated that Server 2008 R2 does not have a Oracle 64 bit driver provided y Oracle. Any help is appreciated ....

CLR stored procedures asssemblies working in sql server 2005 but giving issues over sql server 2008

Hi I developed CLR stored procedures assemblies using VS2005 and deployed in sql server 2005 are working fine. Currently we are migrating to sql server 2008. The same CLR assemblies are not working in 2008 version and raising following error. Here i created CLR assemblies in sql server 2008 using 'sa' user account which is having db_owner permission over 'mydatabase'. I am getting an error message like "A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate". In sql logs showing messages like as -- Common language runtime (CLR) functionality initialized using CLR version v2.0.50727 from C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\. -- AppDomain 2 (mydatabase.dbo[runtime].1) created.   Please let me know what may be the cause for this type of issues. Is there any specific backward compatibility settings has to be done over sql server 2008 or sql server 2008 R2 while using 2005 CLR routines?   Thanks in advance.
