CLR-based Function using System.Drawing throwing 6522 after update of server to 2008 SP2

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

I wrote a DLL that uses system.drawing to shrink/resize images stored in SQL field.  Worked yesterday.  Today, all references to that dll (via SQL function field) blow up with this error.

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Line 2

A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user-defined routine or aggregate "ImageScaler":

System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Drawing, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. Assembly in host store has a different signature than assembly in GAC. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131050) See Microsoft Knowledge Base article 949080 for more information.

I believe this KB article explains the situation:

SQL*Server 2008 SP1 applied but still tries to download and install from Windows Update

I had previously posted this on the windows update forum and was advised here was more appropriate. I have installed SQL*Server Express 2008 on laptop with windows7 and appled the SP1 update. This shows as applied correctly when looking at programs/updates from control panel, update logs. The management console confirms version 10.1.2531 is running. Each time I use windows update  the service pack is listed as needing download / install - the same KB968369 is given as the reference. I have run this a couple of times but the update is shown as outstanding each time. Any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks Colin

Creating assembly throwing an error as system.directoryservices assembly is not in the SQL Server

Hi, I am trying to create an assembly (DLL file that created by C# ) which uses System.DirectoryServices assembly. When I try with following script Create ASSEMBLY Addresstype From 'C:\ActiDirectoryFunctions\ActiveDirectoryFunctions.dll' I am getting following Error Assembly 'ActiveDirectoryFunctions' references assembly 'system.directoryservices, version=, culture=neutral, publickeytoken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a.', which is not present in the current database. SQL Server attempted to locate and automatically load the referenced assembly from the same location where referring assembly came from, but that operation has failed (reason: 2(The system cannot find the file specified.)). Please load the referenced assembly into the current database and retry your request. From above error message, I learnt that System.DirectoryServices assembly is not in the SQL Server. I am using SQL SERVER 2005 SP2 and .Net Framework 3 is there in the machine How to manually add this assembly into this SQL Server Machine? Please let me know if you know Thank you, Raj Dreaming a world without any war in anywhere

Performance perspective of Lookup function in SQL Server 2008 R2

Hi, Recently I had presented a session on SSRS 2008 R2 enhancements. As part of that I explained about LOOKUP function and its way of working. There was a question while presenting this feature. From performance perspective, what are the advantages of LOOKUP function over conventional implementation of JOINING the lookup tables in stored procedure itself. I tried explaining that, it enables to make best utilization of resources in scaleout environment because the logic of JOIN evaluation has been shifted to Report Server than a database server. Some how the participants were not convinced. I would request experts to comment on this and help me in understanding whether my evaluation is correct or is there anything I am missing over here during my explanation. Please help.Phani Note: Please mark the post as answered if it answers your question.

SSRS 2008 - report manager: System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server

I have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 running on Windows 2003 server.  So, the webservice URL is running on port 801, and runs fine (I can browse reports from that directory, and upload / deploy new reports and overwrite existing reports. Report manager is set to use port 800 (IIS is also on that machine running port 80).  When I attempt to connect to report manager, I get the following error, with a link to "Home" in report manager (which brings me back to the existing error page):    Unable to connect to the remote server  In the logfiles for reporting services, the following error is there: " System.Net.WebException: Unable to connect to the remote server ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.   Any ideas? Windows Firewall is NOT running on this machine.   Thanks, Chrisrjp

SQL Server 2008 offline while installing Cumulative update

I've been asked to install SQL 2008 CU 10 for SP1 and was wondering if the sql server is still available during the install of the cumulative update.  Is a restart necessary after installing a cumulative update?  I don't have a test machine and I need to apply it to a production server.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Enhancements to Policy-Based Management

I'm reasearching enhancements which have been made to Policy-Based Management in SQL Server 2008 R2.  I"ve found several articles and posts on PBM in general, but nothing that explicitly describes what enhancements have been implemented in SQL 2008 R2 which are not available in SQL 2008.  Does anyone know of any white papers or articles which discuss this?

Windows Update Error - Win XP, Win 7 and Server 2008

We have a mix of Windows XP and 7 PC and Windows 2008 servers that are configured to use our WSUS update server.  However, we have begun to notice that most of the PCs aren't consistantly communicating with the WSUS server. Also, if we try to run the Windows update process on the PC or other Server, we get the following error message:

Code 80244021 - Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

Review of the WEB only shows problems for Vista PCs and the suggestions to resolve the error doesn't work any way.

Error "Could not find server 'System' in sys.servers" with non-context connection in CLR function

When trying to open a non-context connection in a CLR scalar valued function I am receiving the Exception:

Could not find server 'System' in sys.servers. Verify that the correct server name was specified. If necessary, execute the stored procedure sp_addlinkedserver to add the server to sys.servers

I encounter this problem on two different SQL Server 2005 servers. The error seems strange to me since I am not using linked servers.

Here is an extract from my function:

System Configuration Checker not checking in Sql Server 2008 2R

I am novice jumping in and attempting to install Sql Server 2008 2R locally.

I am following this installation video http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd299415%28SQL.100%29.aspx And I am trying to use the checker to see if there is any condition that will prevent an sucessful installation.

In the tutorial it appears that they are using an earlier version than my windows7. When I click on the System Configuration Checker I get “Browse for Sql Server 2008 2R Installation Media” which is not the same option as the video (2.02)

Not sure what to do as ultimately I would like to check that everything is in place first. Can anyone help me please.

SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard edition License update (Developer license to Production License)

We have an MSDN copy of the SQL server 2008 R2 standard edition which we have installed in production environment. We have subsequently bought a licensed copy of MS SQL server 2008 r2 Standard edition. Using the feature Maintenance and Edition Upgrade in SQL setup, we have updated the licensed product key information of the SQL server 2008 R2 from licensed setup file in production environment. We wanted to know how to view the licensed product key information from the server. Also we wanted to check if we have completed the process and we are legally using the software

Query: select serverproperty('LicenseType'),serverproperty('NumLicenses') Is always returning “Disabled” and “NULL” before and after using Edition upgrade with valid license details.

Ran the executable  381569_intl_x64_zip.exe and get prompted for the password.    Doesn't accept the password supplied in the same email.    No error, just nothing happens and nothing is extracted.

Password is 6 characters long and starts with a pound sign (#).

Trying the download again after a second request.    Noticed the password is the same.

Any ideas?
