Can not create table via SSMS 2005 GUI even with dbowner rights (I can via ddl script)

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

I have SQL server 2005 client with SP3 (Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio      9.00.4035.00).

Back end database is SQL server 2008 SP2

I can create/alter a table via sql script.
In the SSMS Database Designer (GUI), When I right click on the database >> Tables and select New Table I get the following error - "Unspecified Error. MS Visual Database Tools."

I was able to use SSMS 2008 client to create tables with out any issues. Looks like a compatibility issue between SSMS 2005 and SS 2008 server.  Has anyone seen this issue and if yes is there a fix for it ?

How to create Fact Table and Dimention Table in SSAS 2005 ?

Hi friends,

I am very new to SSAS world.

My question, can any one guide me , how to create Fact Table and Dimention Table ?

Create table 2000 vs 2005... why the difference?

If I create a table by using a following simple statement:

create table manojtemp (

sn int identity(1,1) primary key not null,

fname varchar(20))

In SQL Server 2000 version I see a table & constraint object created.
But in SQL Server 2005 version I see a table & Index created.

And when I script both of them, I see:

--//  2000
-- Script TABLE
CREATE TABLE [manojtemp] (
[sn] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL ,
[fname] [varchar] (20) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NULL ,

-- Script Constraint

Create Table Script

I have the following T-SQL script generated from an existing table:

	[ErrorId] [uniqueidentifier] NOT NULL,
	[Application] [nvarchar](60) NOT NULL,
	[Host] [nvarchar](50) NOT NULL,
	[Type] [nvarchar](100) NOT NULL,
	[Source] [nvarchar](60) NOT NULL,
	[Message] [nvarchar](500) NOT NULL,
	[User] [nvarchar](50) NOT NULL,
	[StatusCode] [int] NOT

create table script

I need a create table script (see bottom), where a field-description will be placed beside every field. In addition the field timestamp should contain the defaultvalue of the current time.

Thanks for your hint.

TABLE dbo.Example

SSMS Table designer does not script index filters

In SQL Server Mgt Studio (SSMS 10.50.1600.1, SQL 10.50.1600), under the table designer, when a table has a filtered index on it, if the modification does need to rebuild the table, the filter is missing on the index.

Can not create table via SSMS 2008 database designer (GUI) even with db_ddladmin role

I have SSMS 2008 (version - 10.0.2531.0)
Back end Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP1) - 10.0.2723.0 (X64)
I have DB_ddlAdmin role on a database

I can create/alter a table via sql script.
In the SSMS Database Designer (GUI), When I right click on the database >> Tables and select New Table I get the following error.
"You are not logged in as Database Owner or System Administrator. You might be able to save chnages..."

Then i get a screen where SSMS asks me to enter column names. When I enter column names and I can click on Save I get "Not a Table Owner" error. The table does get created but after that i can not alter it via Database designer (I can alter it via a alter SQL).

So Long story short, I can create tabels via DDL sql but not via the SSMS database designer. This from a technical view point might not be a big deal but for a business person not knowing SQL syntax will be a critical issue.

This was reported back on 06/2009 but can't imagine it still being a active bug

Create new sql table at runtime VB.Net

I want to create a new table to sql database at runtime.  The column names would be "Name", "Date", "Event".  I would also like to have one more column name "Image" but the problem is that since the amount of images will vary, I want the application to count the amount of files in the Multiple fileuploader and then add a image column to the table for the respected amount of files.

For example if i am uploading 3 files in the multiple fileuploader, the names should be "Name", "Date", "Event", "Image1", "image2", Image3"

I also would like that table name to be name dynamically from the textbox Name when the user enters the information.

I have the following code to make a new table, but I dont know how to name the fields at runtime like previously asked please help!!!

Dim objConn As New SqlConnection("Server=<servername>;uid=<userid>;pwd=<password>;database=master")

Even though I rename it, it couldn't change. I can see this in table property.

How to create scrolling table for columns in a SharePoint Designer Data View

I have a fairly complex SharePoint Designer 2007 Data View they have added two more requirements.

1. Have the columns on the right side be able to scroll left to right as there is a large number of columns, while the first 3 columns on the left side stay locked in place.  This is only one list not two, and because of some other requirements I have it must remain to be just one list.

2. Then they also need to have scrolling up and down of the entire list with the headers locked in place.

The first requirement is more important than the second, but preferrably I need to do both.

I am new to XSL so not familar with the syntax. Is this something I can do on a custom Data View? Does anyone have any examples of how?

I have a drawing that show how it needs to look but I don't see an option here to upload a graphic.

So here is a link to my graphic example uploaded to my blog area: http://lindachapman.blogspot.com/  or just the image here: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_aB01ue__NvQ/TGL42MOvrGI/AAAAAAAAAA4/c3xP4uCy4BU/s1600/Scrolling.png
