VSS based backup failes because of SQLWriter Event 24583

When I try to do a VSS based backup of a Windows 2008 SP2 server that has both SQL Server 2005 and instances of SQLExpress, I get the following error;

Event ID 24583, Source SQLWriter, with an error message stating "Error Message: Unable to open the physical file 'c:\websites\dotnetnuke\app_data\datebase.mdf'. Operating system error 3 '3(the system cannot find the file specified)'"

The path and file being referenced was set during a default installation of DotNetNuke 5. It uses SQLExpress and that was the default path I used during the install. I later changed the location of the website on the same server, which changed the path to the database.mdf file. The DotNetNule website has been working fine for over 6 months and I have built out related components to where I can't just put the website back in the same path as the default install.

When the problem first started, I opened SSMS and noticed that there were no databases listed wit

Event ID 1011 - DefaultAppPool World Wid Web Pub. Serv. fatal communication error

We have a Windows 2003 server running IIS6 1.1 Framework. We have also installed a DNS and Active Directory in the same machine.

We're randomly getting the error you can see below. Sometimes it causes the recycling of process w3wp.exe (which on my understanding represents the application pool worker processd) and other times results on this process hanging and not responding to any request. To do iisrest temporarly solves the problem.

We were pointed to a possible permissions problem between the user we were runnig the DefaultAppPool with and registry entries used by the iis. We noticed the default predifined user we used, Network Service, wasn't found in the Active Directory, so we changed it by the default configurable user, IWAM_MACHINE_NAME, which is under the IIS_WPG Active Directory Grupo, which, in theory has the correct permissions to run the application pool.

Well, none of this worked and we are still getting this error.

This is driving us crazy and think the problem might have to do with having the Domain Controller/Active Directory and the IIS6 running on the same machine. We'll try now uninstalling this DC pointing to another one to see what happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Gabriel.

External Backup keeps throwing error message

Hi all, I have been backing up the same 10 databases with differential backups on the daily biases for about a month and last night, one of the databases failed to back up with the following error messages: 112(error not found) [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3202) BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed. Would someone be able to let me know why this would happen just suddenly? Thank you

Named Pipes provider error - backup script

I have a couple of installs of SQL Server 2005 Express.  One thing it doesn't provide is an agent to schedule jobs so I read where you can use Windows job scheduler to execute a batch job to in turn run a sqlcmd file.  I have that working on one server but on the other server I get the dreaded Name Pipes provider error and it goes on to talk about it may not be setup to allow remote connections.  If I check using Surface Configurator it is set to allow remote connections using both tcpip and named pipes.  To my knowledge all I want it tcpip but I enabled named pipes in an effort to get things working. About the only difference I can see is on the working system the database is a named instance (ie. Servername) versus default instance on the non-working system which shows up as (Servername\SQLEXPRESS).  Hopefully I have my terminology right here. Any tips on how to troubleshoot?  Does it depend on the username I am using?  Domain admin or local server admin or what have you? I should mention I can execute the backup script and it does work.  It is when I run the batch job that it fails. The batch job just says "sqlcmd -i d:\MSSQL_Jobs\backup.sql -o d:\Logs\sqlbackup_output.txt"

Event Handler not picking up error

I have a connection manager which uses a Variable as part of a ConnectionString. I have tried putting an Event handler on the package to capture any errors with the connection string. Unfortunately the event handler does not pick up any errors. I would like to add some screenshot but i am not sure how to do it on this forum.  Mr Shaw

Backup failing - Error "operation is not valid due to the current state of the object" ...........Ca

Hi, I am having a problem backing up a site collection, when trying to backup the collection I get the following error  "operation is not valid due to the current state of the object"............. "Category Info :InvalidData" . I'm getting the same error whether I use CA "granular backup" or "Farm backup", and using either STSAMD or Powershell. I can backup CA or the mysite collection but not the Home Portal site collection. As this is a production system I am really worried that something is going to happen and I'll have no backup. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to either fix the problem or an alternative way to backup the collection or farm.  P.S. I am not using the "UseSQLSnapshot" parameter. Any ideas ?

SQLVDI error in eventlogs, caused by ntbackup

I wanted to prevent ntbackup from locking my databases during the nightly backup,  so I excluded the ...\Data folder from the backup set.  However, I think that ntbackup is backing up the databases during the volume shadow copy phase of the backup, even though their folder was excluded from the backup set (I verified this setting in the .bks file).  Although the lock only lasts a few seconds, the error message is worrisome and I would prefer to skip the databases completely.  How can I stop the volume shadow copy from doing this?
