Dimension : Month and Week sorting

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Time dimension structure has the following attributes

Date - YYYY-MM-DD is the Key.

Date_fmt - date represented as an integer YYYYMMDD

Week - YYYY W[1-52] (e.g. 2010 W10) in char

Month - YYYY Mon  (2010 Apr) in char

Quarter - YYYY Q[1-4]

Year - YYYY

Based on the solutions in this forum, I created a new attribute date_fmt which is of type integer and assigned as an AttributeKey.

Date is sorted, except Week and Month.

Date OrderBy : AttributeKey, OrderByAttribute : Date_fmt

OrderBy for Date_fmt, Week, Month, Quarter, Year is Key. Date_fmt has OrderBy set to Key, as there is no other option. Date_fmt AttributeHierarchyVisible : False

I am not able to assign OrderBy : AttributeKey, OrderByAttribute : Date_fmt to the Month and Week attributes.

I tried adding 2 new attributes month_fmt [1-12] and week_fmt [1-52] which are integers. Idea was to specify these 2 new attributes to the Month/Week OrderByAttribute : month_fmt/week_fmt. But not able to set these options.

Question: Since OrderBy is set to Key, why the sort is not taking effect on month and week? How can I sort month and week?

dropdownbox which selects records based on criteria (TODAY, THIS WEEK, THIS MONTH, etc)

I have a dropdownbox which I want to use to search records based on a timescale. The gridview populates results based from that search.

So here is how I want to work this;

If a user selects "today" - a list of records input today are populated. If "this week" is selected, a list of all records added within that week from todays date is populated.

I created a forum on this issue previously but to no avail whatsoever. How do I work around this problem?

Help would be much appreciated

SSAS Calendar Week commencing with split at month

Hi all, Wonder if someone can help. Our CFO wants to see a cube calendar that shows week commencing but stops at the end of month. For example if the dates are Monday  28th   Tuesday  29th   Wednesday 30th   Thursday 1st    Friday  2nd Saturday 3rd Sunday   4th So for this example the week commencing is the 28th of Month 1 and Thursday is week commencing 1st of the next. I am having a problem seeing how I can do this. If I add the weeks to a standard calendar I get the week commencing 28th which includes the 7 days, naturally. I cannot help feeling I am missing something obvious. Cheers

Sorting the list of attributes (not members) of a dimension

Hi there,

Any solution with SSAS 2008 R2 for that problem?

"It looks very simple, but I cannot find how to order the list of attributes in a dimension. Let's say I have a dimension Item with two attributes:

- Code
- Description

and I want the Description to appear first. By default it's using the alphabetical ordering but can I change that ?"

It works fine with measures. In BIDS, CubeDesigner, there is are up und down buttons in order to move measures up or down. In the attribute pane, these buttons are inactive.

any help?

Calendar List View Issue - No Month, Week, Day Icons

I'm trying to setup a Calendar view for a list in SharePoint 2010. Everything is working the way I want, except there are no icons to change the view from Month, Week, or Day. Right now, if someone clicks on a date on the calendar, it switches to the Day view. But there is no way for them to go back to the month view.

I open the page in SharePoint Designer, and in the Design view I can see three icons on the Calendar (Month, Week, Day). But at no time do these icons show up anywhere except the design view.

I want it to have the arrow buttons, the month and year (which are already displaying) and then the icons to change the view. How do I get them to appear?

Time Dimension for YTD using assigned Month and Year integers without Date datatype

Hi, most time dimensions are setup using a base Date field in the fact table, and they have plenty of issues for time analysis as it is. However my fact sales records have the time aspect assigned by pre-calculated periods, because depending on various factors, monthly final invoices are all raised on varying days (usually 2nd friday of month but can change). The monthly period is therefore not a straight calendar month. Probably a very common scenario.

So, the invoicing system already assigns the year (ie 2009, 2010, 2011) and monthly period (1, 2, 3 ... 12 with 3 representing march, even though that might represent 13th march to 9th april) and I want to use those as Time dim so we can do YTD, growth-on-prev-year etc.

It looks like its best to setup 2 Dimensions to link to 2 DataColumns/Attributes in the Fact table (say, FYear and FMonth, both integers). That way I can assigned attribute names like March to key column 3. If I combined them into 1 dimension with both fields making up a single key column, would have to either repeat the month names or link it to another Star schema I believe.

I can use the Add Business Intelligence wizard to make the Dimensions into Time ones instead of regular but I'm still not totally sure if this is the best structure/method and once done, how to use the YTD calcs to show in the cube browser (and my MDX knowle

Sorting calculated members in dimension

Hello. I've created a calculated member in dimension member.

My dimension member have three values: Item A, Item B and Item D. My calculated member is Item C (Item C = Item A + Item B). When I browsing the cube this calculated member is shown at the bottom of the list.

Is possible to specify a sort order in MDX for a calculated member? I use a SSAS 2008R2.

Thanks in advance.

AJAX GridView Paging and Sorting using C# in ASP.Net

To enable the GridView Paging and Sorting to update the GridView Data without refreshing the ASP.Net web page AJAX Extension controls are used. UpdatePanel is used to hold the GridView control that triggers the events for the controls placed inside it. By Default UpdatePanel triggers the asynchronous postbacks for its child controls.

GridView Sorting/Paging : 'REAL' AJAX with Asp.Net Series

This is a continuation of my 'REAL' AJAX with Asp.Net (not Asp.Net AJAX) series posts for those of us trying to stop relying on Asp.Net 'AJAX'.

Ok, nothing too dramatic to start things off, we are going to make some tabled data sortable and pagable all without using a bit of postback. Not only that, but it is going to be incredibly easy!

Sorting Data in a GridView Web Server Control

The GridView control provides built-in sorting functionality without requiring any coding. You can further customize the sort functionality of the GridView control by using custom SortExpression property values for columns as well as by using the Sorting and Sorted events

We all know that GridView columns can be sorted automatically when SQLDataSource is being used. But what if you are not using SqlDataSource to populate the GridView. Sorting the GridView manually is pretty straight forward task take a look at the code below
