Two datasources in a single query

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

I have a requirement to develop a report which has multiple datasources. The main query should be a combination of
datasources from Oracle and SQL Server.

I am trying in this way (this way is working for me when I have both the table in one datasource:

="select * from ORAtb where "+Parameters!P1.Value(1)+" IN(select "+Parameters!P2.Value(1)+ "from SQLtb)"

Table ORAtb is from Oracle and Table SQLtb from SQL Server.

Please suggest what needs to be done.

Using Group by and Order By in a Single query

Hi Guys,

I have a requirement to use Group By and Order By in a single query and I used it but the results are not as estimated so I need your help guys

I am writing a query like this

select id, opendate, lastactiondate, (opendate-lastactiondate) as responsetime, ownergroup from ticket group by ownergroup, responsetime, opendate, lastactiondate, id order by opendate

What I am expecting is it will group the results and then order the results in that groups based on the open date but whats happening is opposite it is ordering by opendate first and then grouping if possible

So I see Order By is overriding Group By, is there a waywe can group first and then Order by open date inside that groups

For your Informtion: I am using DB2 Database

Help is appreciated

Can a single Parameter be used for multiple columns in the query.

Hi all,

I was trying to create a report with a slight different kind of requirement,

Actually I have 5 Columns in a table from which I want the user to be capable to view the data based on any combination for those columns.

For Example:

I have a table Employee with attributes: Name / Age / Salary / STATE

Now I want the user to be capable of selecting any combination for these columns and then running the report, Actually the report will behave like a Select Query with Where clause with AND conditions for all columns.

Report design should be like this:

FIRST prompt:   Select Column name  ex: AGE

SECOND prompt:   Select Column Value ex: 30

(now store this value somewhere and allow the user to again select a different column name like STATE, and the SECOND prompt will show all distinct STATEvalues, then user selects for ex: NEW YORK

Then when USER clicks VIEW REPORT:

Show all the employees where AGE = 30 and STATE = NEW YORK.

Is it possible ? as I dont want to create 10 prompts for 5 columns separately.

Any help is appreciated.

Create multiple XML files from a single query

I'm using this code for creating and xml file out of a SQL2005 table:

select (select
    from ProductsInfo_ZAP p
    for xml path('PRODUCT'),TYPE, ROOT('PRODUCTS')
) for xml path(''), ROOT('STORE')

Is there a way for me to create multiple xml files, one for every row, going by the primary key column, or do I have to create a separate query for each row?

I would also wondering what is the syntax for transforming this query into a stored procedure

Single Result Set from Recursive Query

I have a very simple LocationHierarchy table with ID, ParentLocationHierarchyID, Name columns.

The proc below produces the exact output I want but I want to create a result set that I can pull into a datatable or whatever.

How do I do this? Adding a simple select where the print command is simply creates a result set for each row. Not what I want.

I imagine using some sort of Temp Table might work, but do not know how to impliment it.

Thank you for your help

ALTER PROC dbo.ShowHierarchy
 @Root int,
 @MaxLevel int
 DECLARE @ID int, @Name varchar(30)

 SET @Name = (SELECT Name FROM dbo.LocationHierarchy WHERE ID = @Root)
  IF @@NESTLEVEL<@MaxLevel
   PRINT Cast(@Root as Varchar) + ' - ' + (REPLICATE('-', @@NESTLEVEL * 2) + @Name)
 SET @ID = (SELECT MIN(ID) FROM dbo.LocationHierarchy WHERE ParentLocationHierarchyID = @Root)

   EXEC dbo.ShowHierarchy @ID, @MaxLevel
   SET @ID = (SELECT MIN(ID) FROM dbo.LocationHierarchy WHERE ParentLocationHierarchyID = @Root AND ID > @ID)

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.
