Social network analysis and data mining

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :

Hello everybody,

I am a newbie coming with a problem in my project which is talking about how can we study the behavior of  the people inside a given dataset in order to:

identifying the students who is studying in the same department or have a common subject or a project.

I have read about different algorithms like Decision tree, association rule and others but I still have the problem how can I apply theses algorithms on my project. So please anyone can help me or recommend something for me not to hesitate and post that.

Thanks in advance.

use sql server analysis services to analyse social network

Hello,

Is there any support, tools etc which can be usefull for analyse social network data (levels of nodes and other parameters) in analysis services ?

Thanks for any suggestions

Data Mining requirement specifications

Hello All, Kindly I'm working now in a data mining project and we decided to use SQL server 2008 analysis services data mining algorithms. Now as we are at the start of the project we need to prepare all the required documentations like the requirement specification documents. can anyone help me in getting a template or guidance for the requirement document template or contents.   Regards, HebaHeba El-Desouky

Data Mining - Business User's view

Using BIDS, when I create a Mining model solution I can see lot's of useful utilities like Mining Model viewer, Mining Model Prediction etc that comes with lot's of graphs' etc. What would be the best approach to display these graph's to business users. Can I do this efficiently using SSRS or Do I need to use PowerPivot etc..

Data Mining solution - SSRS Problem

I have created a Data Mining - Time Series solution and I am getting proper results from SSAS(Mining Model prediction tab) & SQL Management Studio query. However when I try to create an report using SSRS, In the field where I am expecting the predicted value, I am getting "#Error" Any suggestions as why this is happening.

Microsoft Data Mining VS SAS Enterprise Miner

Hi We are thinking about using either Microsoft's data mining module for a task or use SAS Enterprise Miner. Price is not a factor. It is my impression that SAS Enterprise Miner is stronger concerning configuring the models with the statistical parameters etc. Does anyone know good arguments for using or not using Microsoft when price is NOT an issue? Thanks, Dennis

Extracting Association Rules from Data Mining Model

Hi I have succesfully created a Data Mining Model using the Association Model. I have deployed and processed it. I need to extract all the rules that is generated by the model. I know that you normally query the model using DMX prediction queries, but in this case I need to extract the rules to a separate table for further processing. I have tried the following approaches unsuccessfully: 1. Linked server in MSSQL Management Studio. DMX query using OpenQuery. The DMX query looks like this: SELECT FLATTENED NODE_CAPTION, NODE_SUPPORT, NODE_PROBABILITY, MSOLAP_NODE_SCORE FROM DataMiningModel.CONTENT WHERE NODE_TYPE = 8   On small models this method works. On larger models with many rules I receive an exception: "XML for Analysis parser: The XML for Analysis request timed out" before it was completed This always happens after 70min. I might have missed a timeout option? 2. Using SSIS to run the same DMX query as above. The method is presented here: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/articles/MDX/64697/ This method works on small models. On larger models that did not work with method 1, it return rules. The number of rules returned is sometimes different for the same package run multiple times. For the largest models it simply returns 0 rules. I suspect that the same XML Parser error happens under the hood of SSIS. I'm currently stuck, and need some inp

Data Mining Solution Question

Hi, I am working for a company that would like to use Aanalysis Services for predictive analytics. My problem is that there are only 40 or so months worth of data. I am wondering if this is enough to even make anything relevant and/or accurate.   So far I've made a time series mining structure, that just uses the booking number as input and predict. I am having a hard time justifying this as they view it as something that could have just been done in excel.   Also I have made a neural network. The company has several (continuous) metrics that they track along with bookings. So I made a neural network to use these inputs to predict the bookings.   This made another problem. The prediction that the neural network makes is different from the next month that that time series predicts and is causing distrust by the potential end users.   I've thought about combining the two models. I could use the output of the neural net and do a natural prediction join of that result into the time series.   Seeking advice, and something that I can do with Analysis Services that could be useful to a company with only a small number of months of data to work with.   -S

Outlook Unable to connect to MySite's "Social Network"

Running into a really odd issue. I have to farms configred pretty much identically, a production farm and a dev farm. For some reason I'm able to set up a social network connection from outlook to my dev farm without any problems but I get "invalid user name or password" when I try and connect tot he production farm. There's no errors showing in the SPLogs or the event viewer. I've checked everything I can think of but knowing me I'm missing something really small.

Analysis Services Using Oracle as a Data Source Data Types mismatch System.Int32 and System.Int64

Hi everyone, I searched for this issue but there is only 4 questions about it in this forum from 2007 I hope that someone can help me. Im usign SASS 2008 using a Oracle as a datasource.  I already have my fact tables linked with dimensions, lets say, FACTID System.Int64 with DIMENSIONID System.Int64 (My dimensions are replaced by named querys and work perfectly) I add a new table to my DSV and the NEWDIMENSIONID looks like System.Int64, but at the moment I replace the table with a named query (I have to use Oracle quering) the NEWDIMENSIONID changes to System.Int32 .  After that I cant relate the fact table with the dimension table. Actions: Looked for the columns that relate from Oracle... both are NUMBER(5). Looked for the differences between my other tables that are already related as System.Int64 and there is not a single difference between the ones that works and the one who doesnt. Solutions Ive tried and didnt work: 1. Cast the column as SQL query didnt work it send an error.  Looks kind of obvious because we are quering Oracle... but I had to try.  CAST( X AS BIGINT) 2. Cast the column as Oracle query . TO_NUMBER 3. Do it inside the server using the Analysis Services Enterprise insted of my Analysis Services Developer. Same issue.   Any ideas? suggestions?   Please? Thank you very much ;) Sincerly Adriana L. PS. At the begging of

Analysis Service Oracle Number inconsistent Data Type for TABLE or Named Query

Dear Gurus, I'd VERY OLD PROBLEM. And I believe it addressed since 2006. When I design DataSource Views from Oracle Data Source. I found it return different oracle number data type for TABLE or NAMED QUERY   Provider Data Type Column Data Type Data Source View Data Type Oracle OLE DB Provider (OraOLEDB.Oracle.1) Table Number System.Int64   View Number System.Decimal   Named Querey Number System.Decimal Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle (MSDAORA.1) Table Number System.Double   View Number System.Double   Named Query   1 System.Int64   Named Query   1.1234 System.Int64 Althought I know I can fix IT via MANUALLY EDIT DATASOURCE VIEW XML SOURCE. But I don't think this is a better solution. Is anybody have ideas ?  Wilson
