Connection string with password or impersonation

Which is the best solution for a program which runs as networkservice (or defined user) and needs to be connected to a database as a specific user: DbConnection ConnectionString with username and password                                          or Impersonate Windows Identity just before running the query Keep in mind security is important in my case.

Unable to obtain password in the connection string

I am reading a connection string for SQL Authenicated user from the SSIS Package Configuration file which looks like

Data Source="ServerName";Initial Catalog="DB";User Id="UID";pwd="PWD";Integrated Security= false;Persist Security Info=True;

I am accessing the above connection string in the script task. But the conection string comes without the password and it says login failed for the user. I am unable to get the password.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

OLE DB Connection with UserId/Password

I have a domain user (other than myself) which was created by the DBA staff as a service account. The goal is to use this service account to process all the SSIS packages.

During my development, I am unable to setup the connection using this account as this account is not a SQL Server user and instead a domain user. So what are my options if I want to login as this service account user during development? Do I login as that user and then develop the package or add that user to the SQL Server?

SSIS -2008 R2 - ODBC Connection error - Password does not save

Please know that I am new to SSIS 2008 and XML. Have a package I am trying to deploy. Am on a HV 64 Bit environment SQL Server 2K8 R2. Have an ODBC connection to our HBOC system as a data source. As always package runs in test environment and not in prod.  I need a bit of insight into the what and why's of the configuation file and how to change out the XML.

Main issue is the password not saving and how to handle the ODBC side of things. I appreciate any help in this matter as I have searched with no real understanding of XML and best practices of creating the Congif file.

Connection manager doesn't save password

My connection managers don't save the passwords. The definitions are read from a configuration file, but when I view the properties, I see a blank field, and then if I fill the password, close the dialog and open it again, the field is blank again, although I checked the "Save my passwords" checkbox.

What's going on?

Storing Connection Managers Password

How to store the password for a server connection with password when SQL Server Authentication is used? Can I store it inside the package itself or I need to refer it from a file or external source instead?

SSAS Deployment Wizard - Data Source connection string userid and Password getting removed

I have an SSAS database (Analysis Services 2005) which connects to Oracle for the data. I have the userid and password
saved in the connection string.

If I deploy the cube from Visual Studio I DON't have to manually edit the Data Source in the server to input the userid and password. The information is retained.

If I do a build and then deploy .asdatabase file using Deployment Wizard (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Deployment.exe), the connection information dissappears. I have "Remove Passwords" = False in Project configuration. So when you build the project there will be a file with extension .assecurityinformation which holds the encrypted security info. Somehow

deployment wizard doesn't look at this file.

After the build I execute this command

Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Deployment.exe  .\Project.asdatabase /s:.\Deployment.log

I tried interactively and silent mode. Either way I cannot deploy the project with the userid and password in it.

Any clue?

SQL Connection String

We can learn or know how can we connect the database from our .net. This will help for freshers or .NET beginners!

symmetric key protected by a password

An alternative could be using a symmetric key protected by a password, as long as your application generates the CREATE SYMMETRIC KEY and OPEN SYMMETRIC KEY statements directly instead of calling them inside a SP (otherwise the password will still be passed as a parameter, and will be in clear in the profiler).

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

connection string question from a newbie

when publishing  in the webmatrix dialogue it asks for "destination connection string" for my "database.mdf"

I was not sure what it was so I pasted this from my web.config file :

Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\database.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True

it all published ok, but wont run, so I guess it has somthing to do with this connection string or some kind of configuration issue.

My question is this, What should go in the field for "Destination connection string"

localhost is not set up to establish a connection on port 51624 with this computer

I'm trying to run asp.net locally, but getting the error

localhost is not set up to establish a connection on port 51624 with this computer

How can I fix it?

connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly.

I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.

I have two SQL Server instances installed.

1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)
2- UserLT\SQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)

But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:

Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925

I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)

and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLT\SQL2005".

But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

Need Oracle Data Provider .CS File for Oracle 10g Database connection !

Use Membership but bypass / disable password usage for users

I have an application that does LDAP authentication. The authentication is done on the code behind page of my Login.aspx page. Once the user passes LDAP authentication, a cookie is set and I redirect:

FormsAuthentication.RedirectFromLoginPage(UserName.Text, False)

I would like to setup membership in my application and keep track of some user information. But due to company security requirements, I cannot store user passwords on my application. That must stay on the LDAP server only.

Is there a way to store users but disable password storage on the aspnet_membership table?
