System.IO.FileLoadException thrown while loading assembly from shared location

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hi,

I am facing an issue related to .NET Reflection in Windows application.
I have 3 machines.

In Machine1 I have placed dot net assemblies(dll) (build with 1.1 framework) and shared(folder) for read access.
In machine 2 I am trying to load the Assembly (dll) from shared location of Machine1.

i.e.  Assembly FileAssembly = Assembly.LoadFrom(\\127.0.0.1\....somelib.dll);

I am getting an exception as below

  System.IO.FileLoadException was caught
  Message="Could not load file or assembly ,..., Version=1.0.3310.15019, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))"
  Source="mscorlib"

System.IO.FileLoadException Mixed mode assembly || System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load fi

Im trying o build my WCF project and im developing on Visual Studio with x64

Ive trid every configuration and when i use the x64 dll's I get the following error:

System.IO.FileLoadException: Mixed mode assembly is built against version 'v2.0.50727' of the runtime and cannot be loaded in the 4.0 runtime without additional configuration information.

When i use the x86 dll's I get the following error:

System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'StreamTools.NET, Version=1.6.288.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=d264bf7150202654' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Load an assembly from a shared location does not work

Hi there,

I have few websites that are using the same business logic layer which changes quite often. Therefore I would like the business layer assembly to be in a shared location.

I want to be able to set the location in the config (and not install the dll in the GAC).

I followed the steps of method 2 in: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837908/en-us

my web.config looks like:
<runtime>
<assemblyBinding xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
  <dependentAssembly>
<assemblyIdentity name="CoreLib.Models

The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must

Hi,

This is frustrating, and I don't know how to solve it.

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

        protected void LinqDataSource_ContextCreating(object sender, LinqDataSourceContextEventArgs e)
        {
            e.ObjectInstance = new KaruselaDataContext(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
        }

Then I get this error:
The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:
<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

Thanks.

HOWTO add a C#.NET library to SQL Server as an assembly that uses such references as system.web.

HOWTO add a C#.NET library to SQL Server as an assembly that uses such references as system.web. I have a C# library (dll) I want to add to SQL Server via "CREATE ASSEMBLY", but the DLL uses these references: Microsoft.VisualBasic System System.Core System.Data System.Data.DataSetExtensions System.Drawing System.Management System.Web System.Web.Extensions System.Web.Mobile System.Web.Services System.Xml System.Xml.Linq And just to be clear, the DLL is a .NET 3.5 app, with the SQL Server being SQL Server 2008. Right off the bat, the "CREATE ASSEMBLY" call fails due to System.Web, which strangely, is 2.0.0.0. The CREATE ASSEMBLE says this error: Msg 10301, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Assembly 'MyLibrary' references assembly 'system.web, version=2.0.0.0, culture=neutral, publickeytoken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a.', which is not present in the current database. SQL Server attempted to locate and automatically load the referenced assembly from the same location where referring assembly came from, but that operation has failed (reason: 2(The system cannot find the file specified.)). Please load the referenced assembly into the current database and retry your request. I have tried to use VS 2010, to create a SQL Server DB project, and it point blank does not let one add references to things like System.Web. When trying to use "Add Ref", VS 2010 literally lo

Assembly dependency loading

I have a VSTO addin that I want to add a plugin loading mechanism to.  I publish the addin to a location on my hard drive, with the plugins in a separate folder.  I load plugins from assemblies using Assembly.LoadFile().  The plugins folder is outside of the AppDomain ApplicationBase. One of the plugins depends on a COM object, and Visual Studio automatically generates an interop assembly for the COM object.  But when I try to use that plugin, I get an exception saying that the interop assembly cannot be found.  It is in the plugins folder, along with the plugin assembly itself. I tried adding the plugin directory to the PrivateBinPath, but since it is outside the ApplicationBase, this is ignored.  It works if I put the interop assembly in the folder where the published VSTO addin is, but don't see that as a solution as it requires manually moving DLLs around each time things get rebuilt. Is there some way of telling the framework where to look for the dependency?  Or even of loading the dependency explicitly?  Since the dependency is also a .dll in the plugins folder, my plug-in loader attempts an Assembly.LoadFile on it, but this doesn't seem to help the framework to resolve the dependency when I try to use the plugin.

MVC2 Could not load file or assembly 'xxxx.Models' shared hosting

Hello,I have an mvc2 site that runs fine locally but when i deploy it to my shared hosting account i keep getting this error.Could not load file or assembly 'AppMVC2.Models, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.I have run Reflector againts the dll to see what dependencies the dll has, I then took each one of the dependant dlls and set them to copy local in the project and deployed them all to the shared hosting account even ones that should be on the server like System.Web. except for mscorlib.dll, but i still get the error.I have also tried to bin deploy and deploy the code files and get the same error.I have seen people write about fusion log but i don't see any examples on how to get this running on shared hosting.Just wondering does anyone else have any recommendations on how to track down the source of this problem?

SvcUtil-generated code or shared interface/data contract assembly?

If you control both service and client is there any benefit in using svcutil.exe to generate client proxies? Or is it better to share interface/data contract assembly between client and service?
