Deserializing not filling arrays

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hi, I need help with xml serialization and schemas.

I have this custom schema: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1437542/help/mtxPresupuestosSchema.xml

This the xsd generated with the xsd.exe tool: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1437542/help/mtxPresupuestosSchema.xsd

an this is the generated vb class: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1437542/help/mtxPresupuestosSchema.vb

this is the serialized object: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1437542/help/xml.xml

Now, when trying to deserialize the object there were no errors, but the arrays Rows and ColumnInfo are not filling ok. I can't retreive the data inside this arrays...

Any help please :(

this is the code:

          Dim stringReader As StringReader = New StringReader(xmlSerializedObject)

          Dim xmlSer As XmlSerializer = New XmlSerializer(GetType(PresupuestosMatrix))

          Dim deserialize As Object = xmlSer.Deserialize(stringReader)

          Dim mtx

Data Points: Techniques in Filling ADO.NET DataTables: Performing Your Own Analysis

How do you know which technique is best for retrieving data and populating a DataSet in ADO.NET?. Since the Microsoft .NET Framework offers so many choices on how to write the code, many developers are now taking a close look at the different options. See what they are.

Deserializing nullable model properties

Hi everyone,

I'm posting Json data to an action that has a model class as a parameter using the JsonValueProviderFactory. Everything works except for any nullable properties in the model, such as double? and bool? - they always materialize as null, even if a value is posted.

I'm not sure if this issue is specific to the JsonValueProviderFactory, or MVC in general.

Being new to MVC I'd appreciate any help with this issue.

problem filling dataset

Hey guys,

Am using a dataset to get different data from a table depending on options selected. Sometimes this means the database returns no matching rows. However with this particular case it seems if there are no rows to put into the dataset I get an "Arithmetic overflow error converting nvarchar to data type numeric." error.

Code looks like this :

Dim saleSelect As String = "SELECT * FROM [sales] WHERE ([affected] LIKE '%' + @affected + '%') AND ([minVal] < @price) AND ([active] = @active)"
Dim saleCmd As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter(saleSelect, sqlConn)
saleCmd.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@affected", "," & id & ":")
saleCmd.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@price", price)
saleCmd.SelectCommand.Parameters.AddWithValue("@active", "True")
Dim saleDs As DataSet = New DataSet()

saleCmd.Fill(saleDs, "saleTbl") 'Error occurs here

The error occurs when SqlDataAdapter attemps to fill the Dataset.

All fields in the table are nvarchar except ofr [id] which is 'int' and [active] which is 'bit'

Any ideas?

Serializing and Deserializing Problem

Hi, I used serialization and de-serialization in my project.

Below is my class and form code for your reference.

Public Class Serialization
    Public Function XmlSerialization(ByRef objEmployee As Object) As String
        'XML Serialization
        Dim encoding As New UTF8Encoding()
        Dim Serializer As New XmlSerializer(objEmployee.GetType())

Arrays in asp.net vb.net

i have a little question about array in ASP.NET or vb.net.

In my classic ASP-Application i use arrays like this

dim ubbarray, txt
ubbarray = _
Array( _
Array("string1","string11","string111"), _
Array("string2","string22","string222"), _
Array("string3","string33","string333") _

for i = 0 to ubound(ubbarray)
txt = txt & "a:" & ubbarray(i)(0) & " b:" & ubbarray(i)(1) & " c:" & ubbarray(i)(2) & "<br/>"

response.write txt

The reason is, i would like to bild a little editor with some buttons and javascipt. But a script like this doesn't work in ASP.NET vb.net.

Thank you in advance for helping me.

Serializaing/deserializing XOMLs with custom activities that have properties of ISerializable types

I have custom activities that have dependency properties of types that implement ISerializable. When they are serialized/deserialized to XOML, the ISerializable-implied functionality is ignored and the standard reflection-based SerializableAttribute behavior is invoked. This poses a serious problem since the types require precise control over their serialization to ensure that proper internal state is maintained across serialization boundaries. I am aware of the WF custom serialization methods as mentioned in Tom Lakes' blog post, but they seem to require the DesignerSerializerAttribute attribute on all custom types. This is a problem because the types are business objects shared across many (non-WF) applications and they are part of a seperate code base to which I have no access. Is there a different method for getting custom serialization? And what is the reasoning behind the WF team choosing to ignore the very basic ISerializable attribute which is supported by every other .NET API across the framework? Thanks in advance.

Expose DataTable from WCF service, all Generic lists convert to arrays

I added a method to a .Net 3.5 WCF web service that returns a DataTable.  Other methods in the web service return Generic lists and/or take Generic lists as parameters.  When I update my reference to the altered web service from my client application all generic lists used as parameters or return types from all methods in the web service are converted to arrays.  In my service reference settings I have selected "System.Collections.Generic.List."  Apparently this setting has no effect when a web service returns a DataTable? Is there any way to prevent this from occuring? Steps to reproduce: Create a web service with methods that return Generic lists and/or take Generic lists as parameters. In a client application reference the web service and select "System.Collections.Generic.List" as the collection type.  Verify that return types/parameter types are generic lists. Add a method to the web service that returns a DataTable.  In a client application update the service reference. Note that all Generic lists (either as return types or method parameters) have changed to arrays.  This occurs even though the collection type service reference setting remains as "System.Collections.Generic.List".  Tom Regan

DataContractJsonSerializer: Problem when deserializing the Date

Sorry for cross-posting. I posted the same question on the Silverlight forum, but it has not received a single answer yet. The majority of folks there must be more interested in UI than in more fundamental stuff.     Hello everyone! Let's say we have the folllowing POCO classes: public class PocoObject : List<PocoPropertyData> {     public PocoObject() {}     public override string ToString()     {         var parts = new List<string>();         foreach (var pd in this)             parts.Add(string.Format("{{N=[{0}], Type=[{1}], V=[{2}]}}", pd.N, pd.V == null ? typeof(object) : pd.V.GetType(),  pd.V));         return string.Join(",", parts);     } } public class PocoPropertyData {     public string N { get; set; }  // the property name     public object V { get; set; }  // the property value } As you can see, the PocoPropertyData can hold value of any type. When I execute the following code in both .NET 4 application and Silverlight 4 application: ========================================================= var poco = new PocoObject {       { new PocoPropertyData { N = "DateTimeField", V =  Da

How to create an extremely large array/object (> 2 GB) without using jagged arrays ?

Hello,I had implemented a matrix scaling algorithm in Java (64-bit) for a university project and have now implemented the code in C# with .NET 3.5 64-bit. One of the operations I did in Java was creating a rectangular array with double[][] = ... (in C# this is a jagged array!) to store a symmetric matrix which is used as input for the algorithm. Since I was using matrices with n up to 30720, memory usage for the single matrix object was around 8 GB in it's maximum and with matrix multiplication around 20 GB.So... now I implemented this in C# and I am shocked to see that double[,] (rectangular arrays) can only be 2 GB in size even on 64-bit! That means that for matrices with n larger than ~15000 I will get OutOfMemory Exceptions although there is a huge amount of free memory (I have two quad core systems with 12 GB and 24 GB Ram). When I use jagged arrays in C# (i.e. double[][]) I can create larger matrices. That is because I have one small array with the size of the row number (i.e. n) and then for each row an array of size n, but they are all single objects so I don't reach the 2 GB per object limit. The problem with jagged arrays is that they are horribly slow for matrice calculations compared to rectangular arrays and even slower compared to single dimension arrays.Actually I intended to rewrite my code and simulate the matrices in single arrays (see sample code below) bec

Deserializing Problem when build proxy by svcutil from WSDL

Hi, I got a WSDL from a third-party company and have to build a proxy to fetch data. I used svcutil *.wsdl to generate code and config file. Using the proxy I wondered why I got unexpected results: The return value is alway 0 and the string field CTWS_ReturnMsg always empty even if the server sent values. Could anybody help me? Here the WSDL and afterwards the http-traffic (from Wireshark): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <wsdl:definitions xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/" xmlns:tm="http://microsoft.com/wsdl/mime/textMatching/" xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:mime="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/mime/" xmlns:tns="http://CEITONWebService.org/" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:soap12="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap12/" xmlns:http="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/http/" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/" targetNamespace="http://CEITONWebService.org/">     <wsdl:types>         <xs:schema xmlns="http://CEITONWebService.org/" xmlns:mstns="http://CEITONWebService.org/" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:tns="http://CEITONWebService.org" targetNamespace=&q

Collection is read-only Arrays in models

I'm about to pull my hair out with this one. I have a model with 2 arrays of inputs that looks like this public partial class MyModel : MyModel { public double?[] Array1{ get; set; } public double?[] Array2; public MyModel() { Array1 = new double?[10]; Array2 = new double?[10]; } }Now, if I change Array1 to look like Array2 (Remove the accessors) I don't get an error, However after posting the data all the elements in the arrays are null. Now if I do either of the arrays like Array1 above, Exception Details: System.NotSupportedException: Collection is read-only.What am I doing wrong here?    public partial class TimesheetWeekModel : TimesheetBaseModel     {         public double?[] Hours { get; set; }         public double?[] Miles;         public TimesheetWeekModel()         {             Hours = new double?[7];             Miles = new double?[7];         }
