How to call the executebale (.EXE) files within a web service?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ADO.Net

Hi All,

I have a web application. This application collects some information from the user and the details needs to be passed to a .EXE. It processes the parameters and gives the output as a text file.

The .EXE is hosted in another server (Application Server). I need to call the .EXE with the a set of parameters from the Web Server. Is there any way to call this .EXE through an web service? If yes how to call the .EXE with parameters within the web service?

Is there any other way to handle this kind of scenario?

Thank you.

Unable to call an asmx web service using windows authentication from a Service workflow

SharePoint ASPX Web Service Call Error

I have developed an ASPX page using VS2005. This page simply queries a SharePoint list through a WSS web service using CAML and takes the results and populates a DataTable and binds it to a DataView. Issues in GetItemDataSources web service call in 2008 Report Server R2

Hi, I'm using Reporting Services web services endpoint ReportService2005.asmx with 2008 report server R2 and I'm facing some issues in getting the data source names for a report definition using the GetItemDataSources web service. The problem is that the data source names returned are different from the names of the actual data sources on the report server. The report has the following data sources: 0 1 _0 _A Data Source And the names returned by the GetItemDataSources for 2008 report server R2 is: AutoGen_0 AutoGen_1 AutoGen__0 AutoGen__A Data_Source When I make the same calls using a 2005 report server, the names returned are the same as that in the report definition. To summarize, only numeric data source names are changed to "Autogen_<number>"(eg. Autogen_0), data source names beginning with "_" are changed to "Autogen_<data source name>"(eg. AutoGen__A)  and spaces are replaced by an "_".   What is the problem for the data source names returned for 2008 report server R2? Or has there been any change in the way in which report server stores the data source names? Thanks, Kulbhushan Singhal.

jQuery Call to Web Service, with Punctuation

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a nice week so far. I'm trying to call a web service and the passed string may have punctuation, depending on what the user types in. I currently have an HTML textbox and a jQuery call to the .NET web service.  I definitely think the string with punctuation fails because jQuery will send the string wrong, so I tried a few different javascript encoding functions I could find.  I was never able to encode it successfully and decode it in .NET, saving the string with punctuation.   Basically I have a textbox that a user can update their status in.  If the user wants to use punctuation, I'd like them to be able to.  How can I accomplish this with jQuery and .NET?

Parameter names ending with "specified" added to web service method call

Hello,I am new to WCF. I created a wcf web service and the generated web method exposed by wcf has some additional boolean parameters with names that end with "Specified".I am trying to understand why are these additional parameters necessary and how to get rid of them. Thanks!David

Call specific web service method by matching string value to method name?

Send/open timeouts on WAS-hosted WCF service with named pipe orTCP binding, per-call instancing

We have a client that sends requests to a per-call WCF service (WAS hosted, NP binding, same machine) in a loop. The WCF service calls an external EXE to process requests. The operations on the service can take a few seconds, or a few hours. To combat this, we have sendTimeout=00:05:00, receiveTimeout=00:05:00 and a built-in circuit-breaker on the service that kills the external process after 00:05:00. Any service-side errors are returned to the client as FaultExceptions.  On the client, FaultExceptions are logged and the client proxy is aborted (proxy.Abort()). The client has configurable multithreading. In this example, it is running 3 threads, each of which creates a proxy, makes a call, and closes the proxy (or aborts it if an exception was received). Since the service is instanced as per-call, and it never receives more than 3 simultaneous calls (each of which being followed by a .Close() or .Abort() on the proxy), I would not expect the client to be getting timeouts during the send, but I am. In fact, the send timeouts I am receiving would seem to imply that the WCF service is hitting the default session limit, even though the class is explicitly marked with [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerCall)]. I put some trace logging on the client and I can see that the timeout is occurring when the proxy is being created. sendTimeout seems to

Fast WCF Service call?

i need to evaluate which DataAccess Strategy threw a WCF Service is the best/fastest.

I created a Service that get Data with linq2sql or with a SqlDataAdapter. But when i call the service from client, on each call the response time is going longer.

Can someone tell me what im doing wrong or have a tip for best practice to SELECT many Rows from a StoredProcedure or View?

Thank you!

Web Service Unable to access Directory (Temporary ASP.NET Files) CS0016

QuestionMoving web service to a production level server. This is not a new server, but is new to running an ASP.NET 2.0 web service. No other websites or services existed on this server.

Installed .Net 2 and specified that ASP is registered for 2.0 using aspnet_regiis. Installed missing components such as Front page extensions. When I try to browse to the services asmx page I get the error saying that the process has a compilation error and cannot access the asp.net temp directory under the 2.0 Framework. I looked at the directory and it appears that the asp.net process and others have correct access.

Note a basic asp.net page will come up as well as a basic html page.

All comments are welcome.

Web Service Call Not Working

So I'm still not sure if this is on my side, the service side, or both sides. I have NO idea where the main source of the issue is coming from, but I will try and do my best to explain the steps I have taken and what has happened so far so you guys have all the info you need to bang your head against this with me.

So we have a Web Service class called API.svc that implements one of our classes containing one method. In the API class is where the call goes out to the service, however it seems to be failing before that so I think that the problem is coming locally. Note I said I THINK.

The first time we ran into an error was running the code normally, and testing this after not testing it in a while. The error that came back when we clicked the button that ran through all the calls (eventually needing to hit the service call), was this:

System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[System.ServiceModel.ExceptionDetail]: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. SSIS 2005: call WCF web service in ScriptTask (?)

Hi I am a bit of SSIS and WCF newbie...I am working on a SSIS 2005 project and other company writes web service for me to consume.  I use "script task" in SSIS and copy the WSDL-generated proxy file to consume web service..it has been working ok but yesterday I got a new proxy class file from the other company with heading like this:

<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThroughAttribute(), _

     System.CodeDom.Compiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("System.Runtime.Serialization", ""), _

     System.Runtime.Serialization.DataContractAttribute(Name:="GetBondTenancy", [Namespace]:="http://xxx.x.xxx.notshown.xxx/")> _

    Partial Public Class GetBondTenancy

        Inherits Object

        Implements System.Runtime.Serialization.IExtensibleDataObject

SSIS complains about not recognizing 'DataContractAttribute' and 'IExtensibleDataObject' but sure it is not just a matter of DLL referencing... is there a way I can consume this Web service?

p.s. Please let me know if you guys require more info....
