Code Name Avalon: Create Real Apps Using New Code and Markup Model

The presentation subsystem in the next version of Windows, code-named "Longhorn," offers powerful new capabilities to developers. This subsystem, code-named "Avalon," allows developers to take advantage of its capabilities through a new markup language code-named "XAML." In addition, modern object-oriented programming languages such as C# and Visual Basic .NET can be used to tie everything together. Because most applications written to Avalon will probably be a mix of XAML and programming code, this article discusses XAML tags used to control page layout along with the procedural code written to respond to events.

Create longer than 4 characters Soundex Code

Hi all, Does anyone know if it is possible to create a soundex key that is longer than the standard 4 characters? I guess if it doesn't then you just have to create a user defined function? I'm trying to do address matching on a table of customers 3 million records. I was thinking of embarking on full text search if it is not possible. Anyone with any advice always gratefully received. Cheers Ant

What topics cover this code that was written in Classic-ASP?

Hey guys,So, I have a very simple bit of ASP on my website currently, which you can check out here:  http://www.marioplanet.com/catalog.aspJust ignore the CSS issue for now! :)Anyway, so, I have a SQL Server table in a database, and I'm pulling some information from it to make a shopping catalog of all my products.I was wondering if there is any need to convert this to ASP.NET, and if I should, as I'm eager to learn how, which topics of ASP.NET does this include?I would assume handling data through a SQL Server Database Table? Also, which ASP.NET framework is best suited for this kind of work?  For the most part, the only ASP.NET code I'm going to be using, is going to be handling data from a database.  Other than a few conditionals and what not.Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

How do I create an SPD workflow for all existing documents in doc lib?

Hi All, Could someone help me? I am newbie to sharepoint and workflow. I want to write a work flow library to send email to user bi annually. I have tried and not successful. My workflow doesn't applied to existing documents and it doesn't send mail to existing document owner and it stopped sending mail after one or two times. I am using sharepoint designer 2007. Here are work flow steps 1)      Workflow need to start automatically when attach to DL 2)      If there are some documents already in DL, this WF needs to be applied to all existing documents. 3)      When workflow starts, it will send email to document owner to review their existing documents or new document loaded 4)      Send reminder after one week if document owner doesn't review their document 5)      If user doesn't review the document (check out, check in) after 2 week, it will automatically check out and check in with document owner account 6)      After 6 months from that time, workflow will send email again to document owner to review 7)      Step 3 to 6 will loop.   Any suggestion? I am looking forward any help.   Thanks.Best Regards

Create DLL from C code using Visual Studio 2005

I have a commercial application (ZEMAX) that uses DLLs to describe problem geometry.  They provided source code in C for one of their DLLs.  I would like to modify that source code and generate a modified DLL.  Can I do that with Visual Studio 2005 (how?) or do I need a different IDE?

create a form to create an ascx page and code behind for it

Is is possible to build a form, accept parameters and from THAT construct a new .ascx page AND the code behind for that page? What I'm proposing is having some code snippets that just need parameters added and can then be used to create a web user control that can be added to existing pages. This .ascx file would be a real file after creation, not dynamic every time.I don't know if I'm describing it very well, maybe someone could point me in the right direction.
