Data structure to automatically sync data between windows application and Microsoft SQL Server

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

I dont know whether I am posting this question in the right forum, please move it if needed. I have a windows application that shows data from a SQL table. I cannot use DataGridView in the application, I have a custom form to display the data. I need a datastructure to hold the table data and I display it using my custom windows form. Which data structure should I use to automatically sync data between windows application and SQL Server? I don't want to manually write Update queries. Any help would be appreciated.

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET

Hi all,

I was rummaging the internet learning aspx and came across the concept of: Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET

It seems great of course. The articles are all early 2003-5 such as

So the question is - is this tech still relevant and should I be using it?

SQL Server: Uncover Hidden Data to Optimize Application Performance

SQL Server 2005 gathers a lot of useful data that you can use to identify areas where database performance can be improved. Here's what you need to improve performance.

Automatically set a property value for a new record in a Dynamic Data application.

I have a SalesOrderItem table, and it has a UnitPrice column in case the salesperson wishes to override the unit price of the Product for that order item.

In an ASP.NET Dynamic Data application, what would be the best way to set that UnitPrice property on a new SalesOrderItem based on the standard UnitPrice for the product? In other words, when the user clicks New on the 'Items' screen for a sales order, the UnitPrice field should already be filled in with the normal unit price for the product.

This was originally asked by myself on StackOverflow at: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3538234/automatically-set-a-property-value-for-a-new-record-in-a-dynamic-data-application

Can SQL Server automatically "reflect" data?

It seems that a table valued function must be "hard coded" to support the table defintion returned by the function. This is done in two places: 1) The TableDefintion attribute 2) The method signature of the "fill method". I have been told that 1) is not strictly required (used only by Visual Studio when deploying), but 2) seems to be necessary. My question is, is there no way that the system, SQL Server and so on, can simply use reflection to deduce the "shape" of the returned items? This would allow us to write generic code that does not need to change if we change the structure of the data (for example adding a field). If we are forced to write a "fill" method with a dedicated signature, then this will be very much tied to the data and need tweaking every time we do anything to the data. It would be very good if (for example) we could add an attribute to a field/property in our data (called [SqlMember("ID NVARCHAR(50)")] or something) that could then be used by SQL server to decuce the table defitition at runtime, it could easily do this once using reflection to get the field type/name mappings and all that metadata would be in one place, in the class/struct defintion for the items. Is there anything like this provided by SQL Server? I don't see how I could even try to code that myself, because the "fill methid" a

Questions on Multi-Tenant Data Architecture for SQL Server Database and ASP.NET application

My company wants me to make the same asp.net application and sql server database be sharable amongst different clients. Clients will use the database for their own business use, will have their own data, we will have our own data. How can I share the same SQL Server database amongst different clients having same ASP.NET application (but somehow be able to differentiate which client user is logging in) ? Do I need to use ApplicationID and how will I detect at login which one to use ? I know I will need to add another field in all tables to differentiate client's data from ours.

How to save Windows credentials to a data source in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 using Visual

I am trying to create a shared data source for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 that uses a specific Windows user ID and password to connect to the database. Using the Report Manager web interface, if I create a shared data source and specify "Credentials stored securely in the report server", I can check the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. This tells SSRS that the user ID and password I specify are from a Windows user, not a SQL Server user. I want to create the shared data source using Visual Studio though. In Visual Studio I have an option to use stored credentials but there is no equivalent of the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. SSRS always assumes that user and password are for a SQL Server user, not a Windows user, and thus the connection fails. Does anyone know how to tell Visual Studio that the stored credentials are for a Windows user?

Using WCF unable to transfer bulk data in windows base application

Hi, I am testing bulk data transfer over WCF service and my project structure is as follows. Project Structure: 1> One Console application that have the WCF service reside of it. 2> One Class library that contain the interface and a class file that implement the interface. 3> Another Windows Application type project act as a client interface that call the service using proxy. Now the scenario I have is as follows: 1> Inside of the console application their is a module that have the (following server side code) .This service is hosted in the Console app programmatically (No config file). Server Code: Dim x As New NetTcpBinding(SecurityMode.None)         With x             .TransactionFlow = False             .TransferMode = TransferMode.Streamed             .MaxReceivedMessageSize = Integer.MaxValue             .CloseTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 10000, 0)             .OpenTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 10000, 0)             .ReceiveTimeout = New TimeSpan(0, 10000, 0)       &n

Pagination and Data buffering in Windows Application using C# 2005

.NET Windows application using C# interacts with Oracle DB for retrieving and saving data

With huge volume of data, the performance is slow and the memory usage is high, the application displays the entire data in the screen. Response time is high due to database call and client side data processing

Proposed Solution
Using pagination (from Oracle DB) to display partial data in the screen, response time of the application will be faster; however, it will make DB calls for each page. We are looking at a solution to get the 1st page data from DB and start the application, after which there will be a background job to get the rest of the data from DB to a local XML DB. So, in case of next page, the data will be loaded from XML instead of making a DB call.

Is this design possible?
Is synchronization possible between local XML DB and the Oracle DB?

SSIS - To get data from Microsoft Access to Sql Server 2005

Hi All,

I'm new to SSIS & require help for the below 2 query's:

1.We need to import data from Microsoft Access using SSIS 2005 to SQL server. Could you please let me know the steps involved to achieve this.

2. We have web access tool & data has been stored. I need to import the access data from the Web tool to SQL server using SSIS 2005

How to Import Excel Data into SQL Server 2008(64 bit) Using SQL Query (in Windows Server 2008 64bit

I am developing VB .Net application in Visual Studio 2008(64bit), SQL Server 2008(64bit) and Windows Server 2008(64bit) environment.

I need to import an Excel and Flat files data into SQL Server database using SQL Query. I tried a lot with the following SQL Queries directly with SQL Server Management Studio,

1. SELECT * INTO dbo.ExcelImportTest FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0','Excel 8.0;Database=D:\PTPLDCT\DCT Test Datasource\DCT_Excel_Test_Sample_1.xls',
'select * from [Sheet1$]')

While executing i got an error as below,

Msg 7403, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" has not been registered.

2. I have also tried with MSDASQL provider,

Select * from openrowset('MSDASQL','Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};
Dbq=DCT_Excel_Test_Sample_1.xls;DefaultDir=D:\PTPLDCT\DCT Test Datasource\', 'Select * from [Sheet1$]')

Then i encountered the following error,

OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified".
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "(null)".

3. Finally i have tried the Query with Linked Server,

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = '
