Cannot Install .NET 4.0 on windows 7-64bit

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework

Hi all.

I have trouble installing it. I succesfully installed the first time. I was able to build app under it. Then i got error from IIS, he was trelling me i dont have version 4.0. At the end i decided to disintall it completely and installit again. I disintalled extended first and then client. Then i downlkoaded the standalone setup named "dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64". I run this one as an administrator. It is filling the directory for x86 and 64bit, i am checking "mscorlib.dll" present in both directories and they tell me the version is 4.0.

So everything looks fine.

Then i run VS2010 and start loading a previous app under 4.0. Well it tells me that: "The C# project xxx is targeting ".NETFramework, Version=v4.0", which is not installed on this machine" and that i have to download it and gives me the download sites.

I did all these steps several times and i come always to this point.

What is wrong ? Anybody can help me ?

thanks in advance

I can't install Net Framework 3.5 (update) or 4.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I tried through Windows Update and manually. If I try Windows Update I get the error code 80073712.

If I try manually I get this:

All other updates work fine except Net Framework...

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

SQL Server Reporting Services not able to install on Windows Vista Home Premium

Recently I had a weird problem while trying to install SQL Server Reporting Service in my local PC. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and I wanted to configure SSRS in my PC. During the installation, the setup wizard listed all the services that we want to install and I found that only Reporting Server checkbox option was disabled and I wondered why??? I thought it may be becuase of some installation problem and tried again and its useless... I googled lot of sites for 3 days and finally found that due to some IIS issues, it is not possible to install Reporting Server in Vista Home Premium version. Reporting Server needs some specific IIS features to be installed in the machine.

But unfortunately those features are not available for Home Premium users which in term restricts users not to install reporting server in our PCs... Also, Microsoft has accepted it as an issue and its not possible to get it install in Home Premium...just wanted to share and might be useful for someone like me.

gdi32.dll + unsafe code on 32+64Bit Windows

Which target cpu should I use to compile a .NET 3.5 app (developed on a 32 Bit System) that contains an assembly which uses [DllImport("gdi32.dll")] static extern IntPtr CopyEnhMetaFile(IntPtr hemfSrc, IntPtr hNULL); and which also has the option checked: "Allow unsafe code" because of the following code: ((byte*) dst.Scan0.ToPointer())[(dst.Stride*y) + x] =... so that the app is able to run both on 32 and 64 Bit Windows ? If the answer is "x86", does it mean that all referenced assemblies of the app have to be compiled with "x86" or just the "app.exe" ? Thanks.

Windows 7 64bit Registry access using x86 assembly

Hi guys, I have an assembly that is complied in x86 release mode. The assembly tries to access  a particular registry key in Win7 the key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion  -> ProductID(tried to read this value) As the assembly is in x86 it tries to look for the key in SysWow64 node HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion -> ProductID(tried to read this value) When i went through the registry i found that the string "ProductID" is missing (!) .. (may be because i have trial version of windows 7 x64)? I just wanted to ask , is there a way to read registry key (not in wow6432node ) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion  -> ProductID  in x86 mode? Im using the following  code RegistryKey regkey = Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion", false); //reads in wow6432Node for x86 assembly string strProductID = string.empty; if (((regkey != null))) { // Get key Value of ProductId. strProductID = (string)regkey.GetValue("ProductId"); if ((string.IsNullOrEmpty(strProductID))) { //try reading another path for "ProductID" } } return strProductID ; PS:When i complie the same assembly as "Any Cpu" , the above code returns corr

SQL Server 2008 R2 fails after Windows XP Pro SP3 install

We recently encountered an issue with SQL Server 2008 R2 failing to run after the upgrade from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3. This was tested and reproduced (with varying results) on more than one computer. Steps to reproduce this. On a Windows XP Pro machine with Service Pack 2 installed, install SQL Server 2008 R2. Next upgrade Windows to Service Pack 3. Now upon opening SSMS or trying to start the SQL server service you receive the following message: "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem". In some instances reinstalling/repairing SQL Server 2008 R2 does fix the issue.  In other cases the installer crashes and you need to use msizap to clean it up before you can reinstall.  In other cases you do not receive any errors at all. After testing in multiple virtual machines it looks like the cleaner the Windows install the more likely you are to run into this issue.  On machines with most or all windows updates (prior to SP3) installed you do not necessarily even get the failure.  On machines with just Windows XP Pro SP2 installed with no additional updates you get the failure every time. Obviously the SQL Server 2008 R2 prerequisites are installed in all cases in order to be able to install SQL server to begin with. Any help with this would be appre

Unable to install SQL Server 2005 SP2 - Unable to install Windows Installer MSI File

I have been trying to figure out how to fix this problem for the past couple of days and I was unable to find an answer to my specific problem in the forum. My OS is Windows XP Professional SP3 on MacBook Pro, using Parallels Desktop 4.0. Every single time Windows update tries to install SQL Server 2005 SP2, it fails. I am using Business Contact Manager with Outlook 2007 and SQL Server stops randomly and I am forced to restart the software. I am not sure if it is relevant to this specific problem but I thought I would make a note of this.I have downloaded SP2 and tried to install it locally but that did not work. Microsoft.NET version 3.0 Install Error: Installation failed for Windows Communication Foundation. M

Please help! I've been trying for the last day and a half to properly install Microsoft.NET version 3.5 so that I can install TurboTax and do my taxes. I was only on version 1.1. Multiple tries to upgrade to 3.5 was giving me a code 1603 error on install on "Microsoft.NET version 2.0a". I followed advice from forums here and elsewhere to uninstall and reinstall my prior versions. I also used Windows Install Cleanup before reinstalling. I keep getting to the same result when I try to go from version 2.0 to version 3.5. In my last attempt, I went all the way back to version 1.0 and installed each step up to 2.0 SP1 with (allegedly) no problems. This last time I decided to upgrade to 3.0 instead of going right to 3.5. Now I get the following error message: [04/03/10,04:07:14] Windows Communication Foundation: [2] Error: Installation failed for component Windows Communication Foundation. SQL*Server 2008 SP1 applied but still tries to download and install from Windows Update

I had previously posted this on the windows update forum and was advised here was more appropriate. I have installed SQL*Server Express 2008 on laptop with windows7 and appled the SP1 update. This shows as applied correctly when looking at programs/updates from control panel, update logs. The management console confirms version 10.1.2531 is running. Each time I use windows update  the service pack is listed as needing download / install - the same KB968369 is given as the reference. I have run this a couple of times but the update is shown as outstanding each time. Any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks Colin
