Workflow stops responding

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :JavaScript/VBScript

I have simple workflow with 3 Sequential activities in a parallel activity. and I have 3 WCF interfaces (Recieve activities) in each of these 3 sequential activities. Basically, my WF expects 3 different kind of inputs from client and executes accordingly.

Everything works fine. But when I tried to test it's performance, and tried to call a WCF method in loop, workflow stops responding after 25 calls. It does not throw any exception.

The strange thing is, if I try after 25-30 minutes, it works again ..for another 25 calls.

Note that...

  1. I do not use any DB, so there is no question of locking, etc.
  2. It happens in all 3 methods, one of the method is very simple, which has 1 code activity and returns a small string or empty string. So, I dont think memory related issues (not sure though).
  3. Same case if I run on my PC(windows XP, IDE development IIS ) and also Windoes Server 2003 R2, SP2, 14 GB RAM
  4. My test client is Console application, WCF client created adding service reference.

Any idea?

Many thanks.

Visual studio stops responding

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 when building an asp.net website. This have always worked perfect but for the latest days I have had problems. Sometimes when I am writing code visual studio stops responding and I can't do anything but wait. After maybe 30 seconds I can use the program again. This happens maybe every fifth minute or so, really enoying. Anyone have seen this problem and what can I do to fix it?

SSP stops responding when disabling WSS Services Web Application

I've noticed that when I disable WSS Services Web Application on MOSS 2007, my SSP stops responding. I wasn't the initial person to set this up and am wondering where the connection might be between the two.

SharePoint Custom WorkFlow never stops

Hi there,

As you can see in the title bar i have a problem with my custom workflow created in VS2008 which is associated with the custom list.

So, what my workflow actualy doing:
We have a list (custom list) of projects - any of them has a collection of documents in a document library grouped to project name.
When user edit a selected project in a custom list (projects) the WF have to move their documents to the second document library called Archive. At WF start the status is automaticly set to "In Progress".

Anything going well, but sometimes WF does complete normaly, and sometimes does NOT complete - it's status is still "In Progress" even the documents are successfuly moved to other doc.library.
Any activity that I put after this code activity does not get executed.

So the question is, whats going wrong there or can I programaticly stop my WF with status "Completed"?

Thanks for the answers.

Free Series of SharePoint Workflow How-to Videos

This is the series of "How to" Document Workflow with SharePoint using Visual Studio 2008 (using the .NET Framework 3.0 for backward compatibility to Visual Studio 2005). I have created video's that show the most common requests that I have seen around MOSS/SharePoint 2007 workflow & document workflow.

Keyboard shortcuts stops working in WebMatrix

I'm often experiencing that keyboard shortcuts stops working in WebMatrix. This is very annoying as CTRL-S, CTRL-C, CTRL-V, etc. stops working, all of which are heavily used when programming. It's obviously hard to explain how to reproduce this, but I was wondering if someone knows a quick-fix?

Workflow Services: Visual Design of Workflows with WCF and WF 4

The .NET Framework 4 makes it easier than ever to implement WCF services using WF. We'll demonstrate just how easy it is by modeling a long-running, durable and instrumented workflow based on a real-world business case without having to write any code.

Foundations: Workflow Services for Local Communication

This month's column describes how to use WCF for communication between a workflow and a host application in Windows Workflow Foundation 3. This knowledge should help developers with their efforts using WF3 and prepare them for WF4, where WCF is the only abstraction over queues (referred to as "bookmarks" in WF4) that ships with the framework.

Foundations: Windows Workflow Design Patterns

Design patterns provide a common, repeatable approach to solving software development tasks, and many different patterns can describe how to accomplish a certain goal in code. When developers begin working with Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), they often ask about how to accomplish common tasks with the technology. This month's column discusses several design patterns used in WF.
