Having trouble with an alarm clock type program.

Hi all,

I apologise for possibly asking stupid questions and/or overlooking things that I possibly should not be. I'm quite new to this C# and programming in general, but it was forced upon me at university - and after a few lessons it looks something I enjoy and would like to understand a little more.

I'm attempting to create a program which will run in the system tray, and act as a countdown to a recurring event every 36 hours. As I say, this may not be the best way to do it but - I need the countdown to resume each time the computer is turned on and the program starts - a countdown to the event. My problem is, I cannot quite get my head around how to set the time it is aiming for! The only way I could think of, and i'm hoping there is a better solution, is to update a text file which contains the event time, and once it is passed, have the program update it and save it back to the text file for the next event, then kick it back up to the top to run through the countdown again until the event is reached, the file updated, the countdown restarted back to 36 hours.

I considered attempting to have the original time to the next event set by the user (ie days, mins, secs) although I can see this will not work as the text file will not be updated when the PC is shut down.

I would really like to get on, but this really has me stumped! Perhaps I
