What training do I need to develop in Sharepoint 2010:

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I currently am a Senior AS/400 applications programmer/analyst (w/25 yrs experience) and I dabble in Microsoft Access/Excel and a few other ERP languages (Progress, JDE One World).   My company will be getting rid of the AS/400 in about a year or so and has advised me that I need to update my skill set.  They recommended I pursue Sharepoint 2010 Application Development training.  We have Visual Studio & Sharepoint 2010.   I have looked at a few sites on-line and most say that I would need extensive HTML, asp.net, VB or C knowledge.  My company will let me attend all the necessary training.  I just need someone to advise me as to what training I actually need and in what order.    I assume I should get some HTML training first....but then what?  thanks so much !!!  Please feel free to email me.

How to develop Common Content or Application pages in Sharepoint 2010, with respect to the customiz

I have a top level site and subsites (which might be around 10). Where as the top level site represents a common landing page and each sub site represents a client site to which user will be directed upon login. This is a PUBLISHING web site. I need to design to start with common pages across all clients and if there is a need let the client to customize the common page accroding to their need. This is a PUBLISHING site so all these common pages should have Web parts zones with authoring capabilities. What is the best way of achieving this?

Receiving Error when Trying to Develop Sharepoint 2007 Workflow using VS 2010 Pro

I have created a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (32 bit) SP2 image configured with Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise and a trial edition of Visual Studio 2010 Professional.  All software is fully patched.  When I try to create a new Sharepoint 2007 Sequential Workflow (.NET Framework 3.5) in either C# or VB, I receive a pop-up error: Exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException' was thrown. and, when I click OK and fill in the name of the workflow and a valid Sharepoint Web URL for testing, I receive the following error: SharePoint site location entered is not valid.  The SharePoint site at <removed> could not be found.  Verify that you have typed the URL correctly.  If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application. The URL in question references the default SharePoint site on this test server and does exist.  My assumption is that the second error received is a symptom of the first.  I have looked elsewhere and seen issues related to 64bit SharePoint implementations but, this is a 32 bit installation.  Based on the VS 2010 web site, I have met all of the prerequisites for developing SharePoint 2007 workflows through VS 2010 Pro.  Does anyone have any ideas on what I might be missing or what I need to
