Office Services: Merging Word Documents on the Server Side with SharePoint 2010

Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 include a new set of components called Application Services. These put a rich set of tools in a developer's bag for Office automation. We'll show you how to use Office OpenXML, Word Automation Services and SharePoint to build a simple application that merges separate status reports into a single document.

Microsoft Word hyperlinks not working consistently in Sharepoint

I'm running into an issue with some Word hyperlinks.  I have a Word document (with embedded hyperlinks) uploaded to a document library.  If I go into the library and click on the document, the hyperlinks work as intended (which is to say that the embedded hyperlinks open up a .pdf in a NEW window). However, on my home page, I have a link to the Word document directly (not to the library, to the actual file).  If I use this link, then the embedded hyperlinks open the .pdf in the SAME window. Part of the issue seems to be that when I open the document from within the library, it opens it with what I'll call a Word emulator whereas if I follow the link from the home page, it opens it with a regular web browser.  Is there a way to get the link from the home page to also use this emulator?  Alternatively, are there any other solutions?  I really need to be able to use the home page link method.

Using Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint

Hi, Im writing a web application  that uses Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint. When I execute the application from VS 2008 it works fine. I have a .pptx template, I create an instance of PowerPoint, then I open the Presentation, add a Slide and finally I add an excel file as an OLE Object. The code that I'am using is something like this:Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint Imports PowerPoint = Microsoft.Office.Interop.PowerPoint Dim objPowerPoint As PowerPoint.Application Dim objPresentacion As PowerPoint.Presentation Dim objDiapositiva As PowerPoint.Slide objPowerPoint = New PowerPoint.Application objPowerPoint.Visible = Microsoft.Office.Core.MsoTriState.msoCTrue objPresentacion = objPowerPoint.Presentations.Open("File.pptx") objDiapositiva = objPresentacion.Slides.Add(1, PowerPoint.PpSlideLayout.ppLayoutBlank) objDiapositiva.Shapes.AddOLEObject(10, 10, , , , "ExcelFile.xlsx") objDiapositiva = Nothing But when I want to execute the application from my localhost I get an error in the AddOLEObject method, the error is something like: HRESULT E_FAIL of a COM component call I don't know what is the problem because from VS 2008 it works fine but from localhost it does not work, all in the same computer. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

Document is read-only in SharePoint, but user sees "check out" option in Office 2007 / Word / Excel

I am finding that when there is a document library in SharePoint with checkin/checkout required, if a user with read-only ("Visitor") permissions opens a document from that library, the document will open as read-only in Word, Excel, etc., but the user will see the "Server Document" bar with the message "To modify this document, you must check it out" and the "check out" button.  When the user tries to check the document out, they are asked to authenticate, and then receive the error "Cannot perform this operation.  The file has been deleted or someone else has it checked out."    How is it possible to prevent a user with read-only rights in SharePoint from seeing the "Check out" option in Word or Excel?
