MySites Top Navigation

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

We have created a custom site definition for SharePoint 2010. In this site definition we have copied the same Home Page tab pages as person.aspx, OrganizationView.aspx, personcontent.aspx etc.

In addition we have added a new new page abc.aspx

Now when we create the MySites using this site definition, goto some other user's Profile and try to browse on the Home Page tabs for that profile -

then In the Top navigation a link comes for "Profile: XYZ, ABC"

However this navigation item for other personas profile home doesnt show up in the top navigation for custom page.

What needs to be added to the custom page to be able get this navigation item.

Extreme ASP.NET: Page Navigation

In my childhood I spent several weeks a year in Holland with my extended family. As a young American boy I was fascinated with the electric Dutch trains, something we didn't see in my hometown of Dallas, Texas.

Controls: Plan Your Migration to the Visual Studio 2005 Navigation Controls

Navigation is central to a well functioning Web application and it can be implemented numerous ways using today's technologies. This article highlights some of the key details of the new navigation controls that are part of the upcoming ASP.NET 2.0, and talks about how to design and implement one of these navigation controls today. This article contains a simple Web site that demonstrates the use of these navigation controls, pointing out some of the key items such as a breadcrumb control and things to watch for along the way. The article then describes how to implement a breadcrumb control today.

Search and Navigation Tips/Tricks with Visual Studio

This is the twenty-seventh in a series of blog posts I'm doing on the VS 2010 and .NET 4 release.

Today's blog post continues on from the Debugging Tips post I did last week, and covers some useful searching and navigation tips/tricks you can take advantage of within Visual Studio.  These tips were ones that my friend Scott Cate (who has blogged dozens of great VS tips and tricks here) recently recommended to me as good tips that most developers using Visual Studio don't seem to know about (even though most have been in the product for awhile).

Hopefully this post will help you discover them if you aren't already taking advantage of them.  They are all easy to learn, and can help save you a bunch of time.

Ctrl + i - Incremental Search

Most developers using Visual Studio are familiar with the "Find dialog" that you can launch by pressing the "Ctrl + F" key within the IDE.  A surprisingly large number of developers, though, aren't familiar with the "Incremental Search"

MySites colleagues update

Running MOSS 2007.  I am having difficulty with the Colleagues webpart within MySites.  Across the organization, I have found multiple users whose Colleagues do not accurately reflect their Organizational Hierarchy, either as it displays in Sharepoint or as it displays in AD.  Imports do not resolve the issue.  The data for these users is accurate in AD, and in their profiles.

While I am aware the webpart allows the user to manipulate their colleagues manually, we do not permit it in our environment.  I would like to find a way to broadly correct the data rather than having to go to each site individually.  So here are my questions:

First, is the colleagues list meant to stay synchronized with the AD hierarchy listings, or is it populated once upon site creation and that's it?
And, depending on that answer, is there any way to force the webpart to synchronize as an administrator?  Or to repopulate the list as if new?

Thanks for your time.

How to Customize Navigation for a Wiki Page

I've created a wiki library with 10+ wiki pages. I want users to be able to move from page to page on the Quick Launch navigation bar without having to go back to the wiki library home. Is this possible? I see the "Recent Changes" quick launch navigation feature that seems to accompany all wiki pages in a wiki library. Can I add another component similar to the "recent changes" feature that simply lists all of the pages in the wiki library?

Formview PagerTemplate DropDownList Navigation

Does anyone know if its possible to use a DropDownList within the PagerTemplate to navigate to a specific record?  I have been able to place the DropDownList outside of the FormView and PagerTemplate and make it work, however, I can't get it to work inside the PagerTemplate.

Trying to move FK links from list as columns to my navigation area.

I'm using vs2010, EF. I have a left column simular to a navigation area and I'm trying to figure out a way to display the FK links that appear at the end of a list as columns, in my navigation area.  One thought was to place a duplicate table in the navigation area and hide all the columns except for the FK links. Is there an easier way to accomplish this.

Thanks, Jeff

Navigation/Performance - Best Practices

Hey all,

I was having a discussion with a coworker around sharepoints navigation, and was asked at what point does performance start taking a hit due to a large nav.  (Correct me if I'm wrong) but I know that SharePoint renders the navigation dynamically. So is it fair to say that if a site collection's global navigation has, say, 4 levels of flyouts, and tons of menu items that the site collection will in fact take a noticeable performance hit? Ignoring web design best practices where you wouldn't actually want your navigation to fly out 4 times...

Is there any sort of documentation or facts from MS regarding this sort of stuff? For example, although technically possible, only allow 3 flyouts and up to 'X' amount of menu items?

How to create a dynamically populated items in a listbox and use it as a navigation?

Hello, I am trying to create navigation inside a listbox menu. I load data from xml to populate a list. Each item in the list box should be a link or button. Then, I create a frame to load xaml pages in it. I tested to load pages employing button control, outside listbox with on click event and it worked well. However, I cannot make it work with list box items. I am hoping to get help from you. Any sample or ideas are highly appreciated. Below is the code:  XML: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <Pages> <page id="page01"> <name>Page 01</name> </page> <page id="page02"> <name>Page 02</name> </page> </Pages> C# to initiate a click o n listbox item and get the path to page: private void SelectionChanged(object sender, System.Windows.Controls.SelectionChangedEventArgs e) { ListBoxItem lbi = ((sender as ListBox).SelectedItem as ListBoxItem); string itemName = lbi.Content.ToString(); if ( Nav_ListBox.SelectedItem.Equals("Page01" ) ) { ContentFrame.Source = new Uri("Pages/Page01.xaml", UriKind.RelativeOrAbsolute); } } XAML:  <ListBox x:Name="Nav_ListBox" Margin="0" ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden" Background="#FFF2F2F2" ItemTemplate="{DynamicReso

Page to page navigation from listbox menu?

I am wondering if anyone can share with good sample on how to create menu populated in a listbox from xml and have page to page navigation between xaml pages. I need to have a unique Uri link associated with each item in the listbox. Any advice is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance,
