FAST search query is slow...

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 28, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, we are using fast search for sharepoint 2010. We are crawling an external data source and this is used for search queries. we have around 30 metadata properties and all are full-text indexed. however, the search operation is slow for a database of 5k records in intranet (webserver and database server are in different geographic regions). typically a 100 item search takes 9-10 sec. it get worse over internet and the search query varies from 10-45 sec for 100 items. Any pointers will be helpful. thanks.

How to Perform Query Side Expansion of Synonyms in FAST Search for SharePoint

Hi, I have added Two Way Synonyms in FAST Search Keywords option in Site Settings. If I type the synonym alone, it works but if I type it with some other keyword, the search results in no hits whereas with the Same Keyword if i give the Main Keyword instead of its synonym, the search is successful. I understand that for this we need to do Query Side Expansion of Synonyms. I also tried to Set a Resubmit Flag to AddSynonymsAutomatically but this also failed. Can u pls suggest a way for this?

FASTSearchQueryException encountered when creating FAST Search query scopes in PowerShell

Hi, I made an update to an existing FAST Search query scopes. The updates are on the ExtendedSearchFilter parameter. Since the Set-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope PowerShell cmdlet does not work to update the parameter, I removed the existing scopes using Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope and created new scopes using the New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope cmdlets. I have noticed that after creating the scopes, I sometimes encounter the "The search request was unable to execute on FAST Search Server" (FASTSearchQueryException) when executing query against the search scope. I am not sure if the exception is related to how the scope objects are disposed after running the Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope cmdlet. I tried to look into the Event logs of the FAST search server but I was not able to see the error. I would like to ask the community if the exception can be attributed to the exsiting scopes that were removed then recreated.  Thanks. MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

FAST Search for SP2010 scope setting works but not getting results.

I am trying this from last two days , but it does not work. I have created two scopes for FAST Search Query SSA , they appear in search center , but I am not getting any results back. I see them being fired in the FAST query log.

First one is a simple one:

New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope -SearchApplication "FAST Query SSA" -Name DCO -Description "All DCO Documents" -DisplayInAdminUI 1 -ExtendedSearchFilter "ContentSource:DCO"

Content source is a managed property. and i can just query "contentsource:dco" from the text box which gives me results.

When I fire the query i see it in FAST Search query log

"GET /cgi-bin/search?qtf_keyword:context=ssgid%3a%3a4d020606-8532-45d8-b09a-db11283cccb4%7cSPS-Location%3a%3a%7cSPS-Responsibility%3a%2c%3a%7c&rpf_navigation:hits=50&rpf_navigation:enabled=True&spell=suggest&qtf_parsekw:timezone=10&type=kwall&qtf_teaser:dynlength=185&resubmitflags=8192&language=en&query=CASHIERING&sortby=%2bdefault&qtf_lemmatize=True&offset=0&version=

Slow page load during a list query one time during the day

We have a monitoring tool set to check to see if the home pages for our 3 web apps load in under 60 seconds every 10 minutes.  All 3 web apps load in under 3 seconds on every 10 minute check except for one exception.  One check every day one of the web app's home page takes longer than 60 seconds to load.  This happens at 11:45PM when there is very little user usage on the environment.  The characteristics of this page are as follows: The only thing on the page is a list view web part which was added by the browser.  The page has not been customized with SPD or code at all.  The list that it pulls is a simple links list that has 281 items on it.  The view pulls all 281 items and displays them in sets of 100.  I cannot find any associated event in the server events and/or SharePoint ULS logs nor are there any daily sharepoint timer jobs running at that time.  Our full index happens at midnight with incremental happening hourly.  Our enviroment is 2 WFEs, 1 App/indexer and we have a separate SQL cluster backend.

Could someone lead me possibly in the direction I should take next in my troubleshooting?

DateTime custom managed property search fails with " Your query is malformed. Please rephrase your q

I've created a front end search page in Silverlight 4 for SharePoint Search.  Currently we are using WSS 3.0 + Search Server Express 2008 (v  The page interacts with the MOSS version of the search web service at:   <site collection>/_vti_bin/search.asmx The reason for this approach is the unique way the requirements specify the look and behavior of the results.  The built-in Search Center page or web parts will not satisfy these requirements. We are going into production but I still cannot figure out how to search against my custom managed properties that are of Type DateTime.  If I cannot get this to work, it is a showstopper. I've tried numerous variations on the SQL Syntax and cannot get it to work.  I know the error is in the date portion of the WHERE clause since I can remove it and searches work fine. Here is a working query: SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, RequestSubmittedDate, DocumentType, RequestPromisedDate, ProblemDescription, DatePublished, RequestOwner, RequestingDepartment, DocumentAuthor, ProjectNumber, ProjectDescription, RequestStatus FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS ('"nmr"') ORDER BY "Rank" DESC yet if I try to use a date literal in the WHERE clause as in the following query modification, I get the "malformed"

Slow query execution

Hello, I have a strange problem that suddenly happened. I have a Windows 7 Ultimate OS running SSMS 2008. When I run a query or an stored proc against a server (the server is remote and passes through a VPN tunnel) it can take me 40 seconds to get the query to complete. But when I run a similar query against another server located at the same location (go through the same tunnel) I get the results in 1 second.  I select about 400 rows on both servers. The slow response comes from a server that runs sql 2005 and the fast response is sql 2008. I asked a friend that works in the same office with me and uses the same connection as I do to run the same queries and he gets the result in 1 second. Does anyone has any ideas what can cause such problems?  I tried to remove and reinstall all the sql server components from my computer but nothing helped? Thanks, Oded Tal

Search query returning 0 results

I'm using a query which returns 0 results but was working some weeks ago.  I checked the code and nothing has changed since then.  I created a Search Center Site on another port and using the same terms I get many results there.  I checked my scopes and they are all right. Nothing changed there either. Could someone help me figure out what may be the problem in my query.  Or maybe it's my Scopes/Content Sources configuration. SELECT URL, FileName, Title, Description, Rank, Size, HitHighlightedSummary, Path FROM SCOPE() WHERE freetext(defaultproperties, ' +légumes')  AND ( "scope" = 'Scope - My Portal - All Site - fr'  )    ORDER BY Rank DESCDaniel Siconnelli There is neither good nor evil... only mogwais and gremlins

Cannot connect to FAST Search server

From the ULS: Failed to connect to myfastserver.mydomain.com:13391 sp. Error=Failed to initialize session with document engine: Unable to resolve Contentdistributor  [documentsubmitterworkerthread.cpp:132]  d:\office\source\search\native\gather\plugins\contentpi\documentsubmitterworkerthread.cpp Docpush -c sp myfile.txt works fine. And I can do a search from FAST search center and find the new file. Q1: How do I determine if SSL is working correctly between my SP Server and my FAST Search Server? Q2: The FAST Search server has port 13391 open. Does this port also need to be opened on the SP Server or are all communications (crawling etc) made over port 443? Q3: Why does the error refer to d:\office... when this the DVD drive (place FAST was installed from)

FAST Search crawl queue

I am attempting to do a full crawl (FAST Search) of a handful of Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents. Has been running for ~3 hours. If I look at the Crawl Queue report in the Administrative Report Library it shows 150 transactions queued. Crawl Processing per Activity - the last entry on the graph is 300 seconds for Initializing Document Filtering for what looks like the entire 2 hrs SQL Server, SharePoint Server and FAST Search servers appear to all have low utilisation (cpu, memory, disk). There are only 2 warnings in the FAST Search crawl log (don't crawl search site and search cache directory). Success = 0, Error = 0, Warning = 2. Before I setup FAST Search, SP Search took approx 6 minutes to crawl a similar list of documents. How do I troubleshoot the issue?

BIDS Query Designer very slow in VS 2008

I am in the process of upgrading my Report Server projects from 2005 to 2008.  These reports use an Analysis Services 2005 data source and have queries that are anywhere from 20 to 100 lines of MDX.  After upgrading a report, when I open or save a dataset in the Query Designer, it takes up to 20 seconds.  In 2005, this would happen almost instantly. Running SQL Server Profiler, I see that there is an extensive number (600+) of Discover events going on with the Analysis Services server while the Query Designer loads. My version of Visual Studio is 9.0.30729.1 SP and I am running Windows XP SP2. Thanks, Mitch

BIDS Query Designer very slow

BIDS Query Designer seems to be very slow while saving the query or opening the query designer when you've got quite a lot of Query Parameters. When I remove all the query parameters, the query designer seems to be running smoothly. Editing a query with about 10 to 15 query parameters takes ages this way! Is there something I can do about this?!

FAST Search navigation

So, I have created a FAST Search and it works ok. My problem is that I cant get navigation to show up on FAST Search center. I would like just like other sites to have links that lead to our Portal and also to other sites. Not matter what I do it does not show up. All I see on the top left is FAST Search - Search. Any ideas?

FAST Search Installation Problem

I tried the post install step for Fast Search on a Windows 2008 server without domain names (I used local user names only, due to constraints of our sandbox machine on our production network). The post-install step failed. In the installer log file I see: 1/4/2010 2:13:18 PM Verbose InstallAction - Creating IPSec configuration... 1/4/2010 2:13:22 PM Error Utility.WriteException - Exception -  : Exception - System.ArgumentException: A problem occurred when retrieving information on machine: watsdevsp2010. Make sure the machinename is spelled correctly and that the machine is available ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Extended.Installer.Mahasen.Common.IPSec.IPSecException: Exception occurred while looking up SID for machine: "watsdevsp2010". LDAP filter: "(&(objectCategory=computer)(objectClass=computer)(cn=watsdevsp2010))". Path: "LDAP://DC=watsdevsp2010". ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8007054B): The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. where it fails an IPSec configuration step. I tried commenting out C:\FastSearch\installer\scripts\psconfig.ps1 file where the steps are for "Creating IPSec configuration", but apparently this file is dynamically created and overwrites my commenting out of this step. Has anyone successfully installed FAST search in a local account only scenar

FAST Search for SharePoint Dictionary Compilation Job systematically failing

Hello guys, Did anyone run into this problem? I just configured a SP2010 test server to use a freshly installed FAST Search Server and this job, which is scheduled to run every minute, fails systematically... Any thoughts on what might causing this? Below is the message reported in the Application logs The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.FSDictionaryManagementJobDefinition (ID ccc0e26a-ece9-4d49-ae10-5d46ef675c85) threw an exception.
