how to delete custom site templates(solutions) still shows afert remove the solution in SharePoint 2

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I created several version of site templates with different name.  Next I removed the older versions in solution gallery but in the list of template sites still  are showed.

I searched for cmdlet in PowerShell witho no luck.  The custom templates does not shown in SP-WebTemplate command.  So I don´t know how to remove this templates from SharePoint, if the gallery solution is empty.  I remove the solutions from recycle bin in the site and site colleciton scope but with the same results.  And I first deactivate the solution and next remove the solution but nothing works to remove the template from site template.

The odd thing is that in my SharePoint 2010 development Virtual Machine removing the solutions remove the site templates of the creation site option. But in  the Production Server recently migrate to 2010 it does not work.

Any solution in code, cmdlet or some else could help.

Thanks in advance!

SharePoint 2010 - noticed a possible bug with regard to custom site templates.

Hi All, I'm wondering has anyone else noticed this behaviour in relation to custom site templates. I wanted to move an site A ( content included ) from site collection A to site collection B. I saved site A as a site template ( content included ) I uploaded the site template to site collection B's solution gallery. I created Site B on site collection B using this site template. unfortunately the top links to site A have been preserved causing major confusion to the users. i.e. the shared documents document library link and the tasks link both link to Site A! the links to documents within the document library on the other hand are to site B!? Is this a known issue ? Is this something that I should have expected to happen? look forward to hearing other folks experience with this functionality. thanks and regards, Counie

How to migrate sharepoint site in 2007 with custom solution package and its content to sharepoint 20

Hi Experts, Recently, my organization is planning for SharePoint 2010 upgrade. We decide to go with Database content migration as it is less impact with down time due to hardware and software requirement (64 bit) in SharePoint 2010. We have a sub-site which contains a lot of customization such as master page, custom list, web parts and a lot of content. There is also a solution was built for that sub-site as well. However, as the time past by there quite a few update and manual creating from power users which concern to me that the solution package that we have does not up to date that can be use for SharePoint 2010 upgrade. I am planning to re-package the solution for the upgrade with all the changes users made for SharePoint 2010. But the question is how do I migrate the content of existing site when we upgrade to 2010? It is also possible that they want to change the sturction of the site when migrate eg: make this new upgrade site as top site collection instead of sub-site. Another concern is what happen after I finish making re-package the solution but during the re-package period users might make more change to the existing site? I would greatly appreciate for any ideas, suggestions as well as best methodology I should take.   Thanks praneth

Sharepoint 2007 - Wiki site - New Pages Not Inheriting Custom Master Page

I am working on a SP site (MOSS not WSS) which is heavily customised away from the OOTB layout. I need to create a Wiki site, which was going well - I've created a master page which displays the miniconsole (this was not visible with our customised layout), and made it the default master page for the site. This has been applied to the two standard pages that come with the Wiki site, however when a new page is created, it seems to inherit the default.master, rather than my custom master page - thus not showing the miniconsole.

When I have created a new page, I am able to use SharePoint Designer to attach my custom master page to it, which works perfectly, however this will not be a viable option going forward as end-users create their new wiki pages.

How can I get the new pages to inherit my master page when they are created?

Adding a custom ASP page to a sharepoint 3.0 site

I have a custom ASP page that I need to add to my sharepoint 3.0 web site.  I created a virtual directory under my website and placed the ASP file.  When I link to the ASP file, I get a 404 page not found.  To make sure I had the correct URL path, I created a test html file and placed in the same virtual directory and linked to it just fine.  I think it has something to do with managed paths and sharepoint trying to control this new ASP content.  I cannot figure out how to exclude this content from managed paths.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue so I can run this custom ASP file under sharepoint 3.0?

remove web part from custom site defintion

Hi,    I need to remove a web part from a custom site defintion. The links web part needs to be removed from the site defintion.  I have recreated the site definition from sts . I found this good article (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepoint/archive/2007/03/22/customizing-moss-2007-my-sites-within-the-enterprise.aspx). but a bit lost as i can't find the wp.gettype method the author is using. I am open to suggestion or  is there  a way to remove the web parts by creating a user control which would remove the web parts.

Can not delete large sharepoint site

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can suggest how I can get rid of a large site (over 10 G) which we don't need anymore. When I try to delete it from the Settings.aspx page I guess process get stuck somewhere - progress bar just sit at around 25% for an hour. When I cancel out of the delete page - I find the site structure is intact. No clue in the ULS logs - all it says deleting that particular site.... The worse thing is that it makes the whole portal inaccessible...probably due to slowness. I even tried thorugh the STSADM deleteweb command - same result. I then thought it would be better deleting the whole site collection where that particular site belongs to from the Central Administration. No luck....when it takes the site down I see many different types of application log warnings (1309, 2262) and errors (5586, 6398).  I found another similar posting here - but really want to avoid the answer from that (I explained why at the end of that post). I'm hoping anyone else can suggest me a way to delete this site. Also any suggestion how long it might take to delete a site of that size? This is a MOSS 2007 farm with SP2 applied and SQL server 2005 at the backend. Thank you in advanced!

Can I deploy a custom site page from the VS2010 SharePoint project?

Hi We're setting up some demos of our sharepoint plugins and want to easily deploy these into sharepoint so that all members of the company can easily get the demos running on their own machines. This is fine for layouts, web parts and so on - but the demo also has a customised sharepoint home page (which I edited in SP Designer) - how do I make this edited home page part of the VS2010 project so that it can be deployed easily to any site collection?   Thanks

Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

Best Way to Convert MOSS 2007 Site Templates to SharePoint 2010 Templates

Ok, I just treid to do something that I didn't really think would work, but now that I've seen it fail, I get to ask the question. Is there a best practice on converting site templates built for MOSS 2007 to SharePoint 2010. We have several projects that used the Visual Studio Extensions (v1.3) and the SharePoint Solution Generator to build custom site templates and the .wsp packages. I can add and deploy the solution packages using the STSADM tool, but when I try to create a sub-site based on that template, I get an Object Not Set to an Oject Reference Error. In case anyone is wondering, it works fine in MOSS 2007. I have not tried Visual Studio 2010 yet (it's downloading in the background). I'm just wondering if anyone has run into this and what they did to fix it. TIA, John.

If No, what has to be done to make it work on 2010.

Create Custom Site Template & Deploy as Farm Solution

So I've seen a few posts and blogs about this, but nothing with the specific error I'm getting.  All I'm trying to do is create a custom site template from an existing site (now WSP), and make that custom template available in CA so I can create host-named site collections from that template in PowerShell.  Apparenly this was a lot easier in 2007, as you could just save your template as STP, and run some stsadm addsolution to get it in the farm.  With 2010, I've read there are 2 options:

  1. Install-SPWebTemplate
  2. Deploy via Visual Studio 2010

I've tried running Install-SPWebTemplate (which only takes CAB files), and NOTHING I do works.  I've created a cab from the WSP with makecab, I've renamed the WSP to CAB, and all I get is "cannot find or parse web template file".  So on to VS2010.

Using this article as a guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff408263.aspx), I created a new 2010 Import existing solution project, left all items selected, and the import was successful.  I made a change or two to the ONET.xml to fix some things, and then I just try to deploy it to the farm.  Whether I set the URL to the root intranet site, or the CA URL, I get deployment conflict errors:
