Unable to assign this e-mail address to the list, because the address is in use.

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have a simple one, I am getting the 'Unable to assign this e-mail address to the list, because the address is in use.' error in WSS 3.0. The question is why?

I have an email address that is ei@mycompany.com, and I am trying to mail enable a sharepoint list with an email of ei@intranet.mycompany.com.

Any reasons why that wouldn't work? I search my entire domain for the email address to make sure some random contact didn't have it-

> get-qadobject -type contact -includedproperties mail -sizelimit 0 | where {$_.mail -like "*intranet.mycompany.com"} | select name, mail | export-csv c:\data\intranet.mycompany.com_emailaddresses.csv

Send email to address in a list

infopath form.  end users submits.  Manager gets and assigns to someone on team.  (no Task list involved) In the form there is a drop down pulled from a list of team member names (2 fields: Name and Email) Trying to create a workflow that will email the "assigned to" person.  I think its a workflow look up, but i am not connecting the final dots.  Can anyone direct me to a resource for: If assigned to is equal to "name on a list" use the email associated to the name in the same list thank you in advance..

Best Way to Store Users Mail Address

I have some webforms and the main page grabs the users email address when they login and a UserID.  It's not uncommon for the user to keep the web page open all day.  Is it good practice to store the email address and ID as a session variable and up the timeout to say 10 hours?  Or is there a better way?  My concern is A) Session variables timing out before the user login timesout B) Doing this incorrectly. Thanks!

Global Address List (GAL), enumerating the GAL and Dist. Groups, obtain email address

I have an application in which I need to populate a drop-down with names and email addresses from the Global Address List (GAL). If that is too much data (which it probably will be), I would then need to obtain a collection of same data (name/email address) from a Distribution List to populate the drop-down.   I have never done this sort of thing before, so I apologize for the vagueness, but can anyone point me in the right direction?  Thanks in advance.

System.Net.Mail ignores Sender address when delivery method is SpecifiedPickupDirectory

Has anybody else had an issue with the sender address not being used as the return-path/bounce address when using system.net.mail to send email with a different address for the return-path/sender and the from address and using the SpecifiedPickupDirectory delivery method? This issue is particularly important when you need to send mail from a "user" address, but want bounce backs to come to a different address so they can be processed.

Using the code below, I think you can reproduce the issue.

Imports System.Net.Mail
Partial Class emailtest
    Inherits System.Web.UI.Page

  Protected Sub test_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles test.Click

    ' Build Message
    Dim mail As New MailMessage
    mail.From = New MailAddress("from@domain.com")
    mail.Sender = New MailAddress("sender@domain.com")
    mail.Subject = "Test Subject"
    mail.Body = "Test Body"

    ' Drop in Pickup Directory
    Dim smtpPK As New SmtpClient
    smtpPK.DeliveryMethod = SmtpDeliveryMethod.Sp

Retrieving Global Address List from Exchange Server

Hi everyone,

This is my 3rd post, always getting great help from here.

My last two questions were about sending email through ASP.NET, and adding web form to that email body, which is working :)

This time my boss wants me to send email addresses from our exchange server global address list. :(

For example,

Dropdownlist for send from who,  Dropdownlist for recieving person...The behind values should be email addresses.

And this information should come from global address list on our exchange server.

I am very newbie to ASP.NET so please instruct me step by step, what is the steps I need to do, very specifically please.

Thank you advance!!!

The specified string is not in the form required for an e-mail address

I have searched and searched and searched for an answer to this problem...

I have been using the System.Net.Mail namespace for quite a while to send emails from my websites. A problem occurs though on certain (VALID) email addresses. For example, when the name field of the email address has a dot (.) in it (example: my.name@email.com), an exception is raised when this address is added to the TO property of the MailAdddress object. It seems the dot between my and name causes the exception.

Please note that these are valid email addresses, but the MailAddress object considers them to be invalid.

Any suggestions/workarounds?

How to modify SharePoint list web address

I created a custom list, and later I changed the title, but its web address is not udpated accordingly. In SharePoint Designer 2007, I used to be able to sync the title and web address by renaming file name. However, I can't find a way to do likewise in SharePoint Designer 2010. Does anyone know how to do this in 2010 environment?

Thanks & regards

Failure sending mail: Exception 0xc0000005 was generated at address 0x000007FEE3D4122B Mail will not

I'm running SSRS 2008R2.  I'm getting the above error a a couple of email subscriptions.  Some email subscriptions work, a few I'm getting this error message.  I've seen the posts about resetting IIS, SSRS and Agent Service.  I've done this, and it does seem to temporary fix the issue, but then it comes back.

The one post where it says the "From" field containing more than 255 characters.  This is not my situation.

I need to find a more permanent fix for this issue.  Does anybody have any further insight.  Some postings seem to be related to older versions of SSRS.  I'm on the latest.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

List item Attachment when saving "Internet Address is not valid"

MOSS 2007 Standard with SP2
SQL Server 2005
IE 8 ( Local Intranet security settings has the URL's of both Prod and UAT)
Office 2007 SP2
Turned off Virus Protection

When saving a MS Word or Excel attachment that already pre-exist in a list item, an error will appear, "Internet Address <URL> is not valid." Happens to both Office XP and Office 2007 formats. Funny thing is the document or spreadsheet gets saved, but why the annoying error?

Running Fiddler I am seeing 403, 409 and 412 results on protocol HTTP in the Production Environment. Nothing in UAT.

403 Forbidden
409 Conflict
412 Precondition Failed

Running Process Monitor I see on Production, NAME INVALID for EXCEL.EXE, but I also see the same thing on DEV.

I have a production environment (FIREWALL) the eror message is coming up. I have a UAT environment (NO FIREWALL). and I have no issues. Both are identical.

Memeber of Group's name displaying as e-mail address

We are having an issue with one site where when i add a specific user to a group under "People and Groups" his name displays as his e-mail address. This is not correct it should display his name the same as everyone else. We do not have this problem with any other employee and if i add this person to any other group in SharePoint his name displays correctly.

Another note that may be related is the fact that Included in the view of this sites groups, the fields that are displayed for memebers in the group are Name, title, and department. These fields are not updating like other groups in sharepoint.

I am wondering if there is something wrong with how this site is set up?

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

You do not have an e-mail address

I have set up users in the Active Directory for a SharePoint 2010 Server w/ Enterprise Features site.  I entered the users' email addresses in the field labeled as such.  However, when I try to set an alert, I receive this error:

You do not have an e-mail address.
Alert has been created successfully but you will not receive notifications until valid e-mail or mobile address has been provided in your profile

Is this a configuration problem, perhaps something in Central Admin?  I can't seem to find it.  Thanks!

Advanced Basics: What's My IP Address?

If you're like me, you regularly do tech-support for family, friends, and neighbors. You can't go to a party without hearing the familiar refrain: "I've just got a quick question. " It's always something-their Internet connections get dropped, they've got a virus, they can't install some piece of hardware, or some file has gone missing.
