Can a Folder be made not visible to Site owners and to Site Administrators?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I know it is possible to provide folder level access in SharePoint, but is there any way so that Folder is not visible to Site owners and also to Site Administrators.

Actually, we have few highly confidential documents which should be restricted even for site Administrators also.

How to deploy dashboards made in dashboard designer to diferent site collections?

Hi I just migrated from sharepoint 2007 to 2010. We used to have performance point dashboards spread across libraries in subsites all across our primary site collection "Http://server:x" after I migrated I understand that I must migrate all performance point content to a new site or site collection made with the business intellingence template. I created a new site collection with this template (Http://server:x/sites/pps) and succesfully migrated all performance point content. Now I want to redeploy all the dashboards to their respective subsites in the  "Http://server:x" site collection so that everything looks exactly as it did when we where using SharePoint 2007. But when I try to deploy to a site I only get the option to deploy it to the ("Http://server:x/sites/pps") site collection and its respective libraries. I wish to manage all dashboard content centralized in (Http://server:x/sites/pps) but I want to deploy dashboards to libraries across  "Http://server:x" is this posible or how is Performance Point services supossed to work?   I also having trouble with DashBoard designer. I have everthing running on a Virtual Machine test enviroment. With windows server 2008 r2, 4 gb ram. Everything installed in one machine. And Suddently DashBoard Designer Crashes In the event log I get the error Dashboa

Taxonomy term store additions via site setting are not visible to user in RC1

Is see that its possible to define Taxonomy term store via SharePoint main central  admin page. But when I try to add term store entries via a new site in the same collection ....  site setting -> Site Administration -> Term store management any new entries are not visible. That is to say when a user starts to enter a tag the helper dialog does not show any values added via the site but all values add via the central admin do appear. this seems like a bug and the is in RC1 or am I doing something wrong

Copy folder from FTP site using SSH to local machine using a script task (.NET)

Copy folder from FTP site using SSH to local machine using DOS batch files

Is there a way to copy a folder from an FTP site listening on SSH connection using DOS batch files? I know that there are several third party tools out there that accomplish this. I am NOT looking for that solution. I tried this in Powershell, but could not find a solution, and I am hoping a simple DOS batch file can handle this.

Any help would be appreciated...

Help needed! Access denied for the root site for all users except Site Collection Administrators?!

We had implemented an intranet for a customer. Last week on friday we completed the project and they were allowed access to it. Next monday they had done some changes while trying to learn SharePoint (among others the Site Members groups had been deleted) and since then they have been unable to access the root site (e.g. http://intradev/default.aspx) and get a SharePoint Access Denied message. While the root site fails, users can browse to the subsites (e.g. http://intradev/subsite/default.aspx) and view them just fine.

We've noticed that users that are in the Site Collection Administrators group can view the root site just fine. Due to this, we made an educated guess that users had no permissions on the root web. But explicitly adding permissions to the root web does not work. The logon still fails. While it doesn't work in the root web, the permissions are inherited to all subsites, and users can log on and browse those pages just fine.

I've checked pretty much everything. I've tried giving permissions to users in the root site. I've ensured in Central Admin that 'Full Control' does actually give full control of everything. Only thing I've not yet tried is restoring the content database to an earlier backup, where the site was working nicely.

I'm totally confused by this problem. If you've got any ideas or have encountered a similar

Top link bar security for sub-site owners

We're designing a new Intranet in our Sharepoint 2007 (MOSS2007?) and have about 20 sub-sites all with unique permissions (no inheritage from the parent).
The links in the top link bar were created automatically when creating the subsites.  All subsites have unique permissions.

Users who are in the visitor group of some of the subsites only see the links in the top link bar where he/she has access to - just like it should, all is well.
But when a user is an owner of a subsite, he sees ALL the links in the top link bar - even those where that user isn't even in the visitors group.  When clicking a link in the top link bar to a subsite he/she doesn't have access to, an "access denied" message is displayed.

What do I have to do so that site owners also only see the links in the top link bar to those sites he/she has access too?

Checked out to me reports visible on one site in a collection but not on another one

We have two main sites on our main site collection - //myMoss/sites/site 1 and //myMoss/sites/site 2 plus the personal sites //myMoss/Personal/

One of the sites, Site 1 above, has "Veiw Reports" as an option for Site Settings and among those reports is the option to review "Documents Checked Out to Me". The other two sites don't have this feature, which would be a nice feature for all the sites.

The portal has been up for a few years now and have no memory whatsoever as to how I got this to work for first time.

Can anyone remind me? (Moss 2007 BTW)

MOSS 2007 - Only site Collection Administrators can access Default.aspx

I have MOSS 2007, and there is a strange problem: on Default.aspx page can access only site Collection Administrators. Other users take this access denied message:

Error: Access Denied

Current User

You are currently signed in as: domain**\user**

Sign in as a different user

Request access

On other pages they can access, by example on http://portal/_layouts/settings.aspx other users can access(if they have these rights).

Other users are members of Owners Group(Root site > People and Groups > Home Owners(in "Group Settings" there is Full Control checkbox).
They are also added to Site Settings > Permissions directly with Full Control. no effect.

I think it is very strange, it looks like some permissions for root page are broken..

Check if Site, Document Library or Folder exist

Hi All,

I need some code using the webservice to check if a Folder, Document Library or SubSite exist. The purpose is basically to check if it exists before trying to create it.

I've found that I can detect a Document Library (but not Site or folder) with this:

  • list.Url =

  • XmlNode

    list = list.GetList("MyDocLib");

It returns some information if found one and an error (Guid should contain 32 digits with 4 dashes (xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-

MetaData is not visible for anybody except site owner.

The behavior started last week and crawled to all site collections except the home site collection. All site collections are in their own database with their own users. The solution is not working for the root site collection. I am not able to find the taxemony list. http://siteURL/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx I get "the webpage cannot be found"

What am I missing?

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

What is a SharePoint site for?
A SharePoint site is a Web site that provides a central storage and collaboration space for documents, information, and ideas. A SharePoint site is a tool for collaboration, just like a telephone is a tool for communication, or a meeting is a tool for decision making. A SharePoint site helps groups of people (whether work teams or social groups) share information and work together. For example, a SharePoint site can help you:

Coordinate projects, calendars, and schedules.
Discuss ideas and review documents or proposals.
Share information and keep in touch with other people.
