I am from the infrastructure background and really need help in Sharepoint Server 2007.
I have a production Sharepoint Server called svr-prod. The database is located at svr-db. I need to clone the production server to another staging server. The staging database will be located at the staging server.
About 10 hours ago, I have cloned svr-prod to svr-staging server. I have disabled the staging websites at svr-prod server and disabled prod websites at svr-staging server.
On the svr-staging server, I realised that the Sharepoint Central Admin Website is unable to display the page. I googled and most probably it is due to the Sharepoint Central Admin Website is still pointing to svr-prod server. However, I am thinking that
if I type "stsadm –o renameserver –newservername “svr-staging” –oldservername “svr-prod” on svr-staging server, it will change the data in svr-db which is the production database and it will affect svr-prod server.
Is this correct?
On Monday, the DBA will export all databases in svr-db and import into svr-staging server. The database is in SQL Server 2008.
How should I point svr-staging to get its database from itself?
Based on the above scenerio, what should I do?
