Add second web front end server process?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have a 3 server farm right now (web server, application server, DB server) and we'd like to add a second web server and load balance it.  I was able to add the server successfully to the farm but how do you go about getting it to the same configuration and running state as the existing web server?  Do I need to install all the custom solutions on it?  Do I need to copy anything from the existing web servers 12 hive or inetpub folders?

Right now when I access the SharePoint portal site on the newly added server I get a HTTP Error 500.19, Internal Server Error.  It goes on to say the configuration file is not well-formed xml.

Can anyone help me?

Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User

Could someone help with this please? I'm using VWD 2010 to build a new web site - I tried to add a new database file but it won't do it. I started by clicking on the folder 'App_Data', then right clicking and selecting 'Add new item' - after that I tried to add an SQL Server Database but received this message...  'Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in starting the Process for the User Instance' What does this mean? How do I start the 'Process for the User Instance'?  I imagined all that was done for me at the install stage, when I installed VWD2010, but it appears not.  Thank you for any help at all.    Regards

Excel as front end and SQL Server as back end

I read some documentation on the web today about using Excel as front end and SQL Server as back end. Actually, this link was pretty good: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321686 This is pretty good too: http://bytes.com/topic/sql-server/answers/486783-updating-sql-server-Table-using-excel This is very good; gets pretty complicated though: http://www.simple-talk.com/sql/t-sql-programming/sql-server-excel-workbench/ I’m still pretty confused about how it all works. I found a sample of VBA online that lets me import a couple columns from a Table: Sub Import() ' Declare the QueryTable object Dim qt As QueryTable ' Set up the SQL Statement sqlstring = "select LastName, FirstName from Employees" ' Set up the connection string, reference an ODBC connection connstring = _ "ODBC;DSN=Northwind;UID=;PWD=;Database=Northwind" ' Now implement the connection, run the Query, and add ' the results to the spreadsheet starting at row A1 With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:=connstring, Destination:=Range("A1"), Sql:=sqlstring) .Refresh End With End Sub That’s pretty slick, actually! However, I’m thinking I need to use Excel to LINK to SQL Server, not COPY or IMPORT. Basically, I’m trying to find an easy way to use Excel as a front end interface so that a user may

COM Server process compiled with /clr option doesn't unload itself from memory when last COM client

I created Visual C++ ATL project in VS2010, exe type, imlemented COM object, then added /clr option to project. Project uses other C# dlls (WCF service). When last COM client disconnects and last COM object instance destroys, WCF service stopped, my COM server process doesn't unload itself from memory. All managed threads in C# dll are background, COM object doesn't create threads. How can I unload server process? Thank you in advance.

C# COM Client to Existing C++ out-of-process COM Server

I'm reposting this question since I've been having some problems with my MSDN subscription, hoping I might have some better assistance now that aforementioned problems seem to have been resolved. I'm trying to connect a COM client written in C# to an existing (legacy) out-of-process COM server written in C++. I have imported the tlb using tlbimp.exe and have referenced the RWC in my project. I can connect to the COM server using object scComm32ComObj = Marshal.GetActiveObject("ScComm32.Document"); But that is as far as I am able to get. I need to be able to call some methods on the ScComm32CommObj, but trying to cast it to an interface or a class usign the interface results in an exception. Thanks, Bill

Migrate MOSS 2007 to a new Web Front End Server

I have a MOSS 2007 WFE that on a VMWare virtual machine that has extreme lag.  The SQL backend is reporting no issues.  Just accessing the VM to move around in the OS (start, run, etc) takes 2-5 minutes, and as a result the users are seeing extreme delays in accessing pages, search results populate 30+ secs rather than sub-second, if at all, clicking links take forever to respond, if at all, etc.

i'd like to move the a new VM because attempting to work in that VM is maddening.  Whats the proper procedure to migrate all the pertinent configs etc for the WFE to another machine?  NOTE:  The second VM has been created and already has a different name and IP.

bootstrapping config process when there are two instances on server!

Have a package (several actually) that first reads c:\apps\config\mypackage.dtsconfig.  This sets the servername and catalog for my database and the main bunch of config values from an SSISConfigurations table.  Let's make believe we just *have* to use that table to hold the real config values.  Well, this all worked fine until they decided to put a second "test" environment on the dev server.  When a package is loaded in the test environment, it should use the test instance, etc.  But it shares the c:\apps\config folder with the other instance!  So now, I have trouble (at least) bootstrapping the configs into the proper environment.  This is SQL 2008, btw, which seems to be extremely important as to the order in which configs are applied.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb500430(SQL.100).aspx

Has anybody dealt with this?

I think I can squeeze through here as long as I only have to finagle this in dev/test, and production only has a single instance.  Do you see why?

Of course the goal here is to let the package configure correctly without opening it up and changing stored values just to move between environments.

Help!  and TIA,

Josh

What processes will delay the SQL server failover process

Hi,

We have an Active-Active-Passive setup. We have two SQL instances namely SQL1 and SQL2. When we tried to failover, SQL1 SQL resource is taking more than 2 Minutes to failover where as the other one is failing over in fraction of sec. We are facing this issue from last two days. Before that it's working fine.

We have checked whether there are any backups running which might delay the failover process, but no backups running. We have checked the DNS response time and it's very quick(same as the case of SQL1). There is very minimal IO activity on the SAN(SQL2 IO activity is more than the SQL1). Ther were no patches applied recently.

Following is our production environment.

OS             : Windows 2008 X64 bit

SQL           : SQL 2008 x64 bit Ent Edition

Noof CPUs : 4 (Intel quad core)

RAM          : 64 GB RAM

SAN          : HP EVA4450

Please let me know the factors which will delay the SQL failover process.

Unable to start debugging on the web server. The IIS worker process for the launched URL is not currently running.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, VS 2008 sp1.

When I first try to debug I get the error msg above.  I wait a few minutes (presumably some service is starting) and debugging will start but no breakpoints are recognized.

Some of the things I've tried:

Changing the binding of my site from a static IP to "*".

Enabled windows authentication.

made sure localhost = 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file.

The website was built under windows xp and whatever version of IIS ships with xp.  My web config has no errors that I know of but might be missing something required for iis 7 (??)

Thanks,

Sam
