I am importing a relatively large (10 GB) subsite and getting the following error:

stsadm Import command + include user security

When I move sites from test to staging to production, I am using the stsadm –o export command with the –includeusersecurity option in the staging environment.  In production environment, I then use the stsadm –o import command with the –includeusersecurity option.  I was assuming that this option was bringing over the security on the exported site only.  This does not seem to be the case.

Last night I exported one sub site to produtction.  Today, I was notified that the security groups on other sub sites have been altered.

So why is it when using the –includeusersecurity option effect all sub sites and not just the one sub site being moved from staging to production

stsadm export / import custom view / personal view views

Hi, i have to export and import a website with a sharepoint list including all personal views. The personal views are used by the endusers in excel data connections binded to the list.  Loss of personal views during import is not mentioned in the technet discription of export / import command ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766807(office.12).aspx  ) I am actually testing the export / import between two site collections, but always losing the personal views (MOSS 2007 with CU April 2010). This discussion had the same topic http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/4e299838-72c2-4f56-8dc3-05ba2a2999d9  but with no definite answer. Please tell me if this is by design or what could cause this behavior. Thanks in advance. Boris Boris Schlotthauer

Backup through Central Admin fails; works using stsadm

Hi, I'm trying to schedule automatic backups of my SharePoint 2007 site.  I wrote a .vbs script that does the backup with the following line:   objShell.Run "cmd /c stsadm.exe -o backup -directory """ & BACKUP_DIR & SITE_DIR & """ -backupmethod full -item ""Farm\Windows SharePoint Services Web Application\SharePoint - SharePointSites"" > """ & CURR_DIR & "log.txt""", 0, True   I ran the vbs script from the command line and everything worked fine.  I used the Windows Task schedule to run the script as a scheduled task.  The script ran fine and the backup completed successfully (according to the logs), but now if I go to the Central Admin page and try to do a restore, I get the error:   The backup/restore job failed. In order to rerun the backup/restore the timer job must be deleted from the Timer Job Definitions page. Failure Message: Backup or restore is already running.   The odd thing is I can do another backup or restore using stsadm at the command line and it works fine.  I can also run the scheduled task to do another backup and that works fine too.  I just can't do any backups or restores from Cetnral Admin anymore.   Any suugestions or ideas? Thanks. -Cynthia

Last modified by and last modified date changes after doing stsadm export/import

After doing an stsadm export/import of a document library, all the document modified dates are changed to current date and modified by changed to the person who did the import. How do I retain the last modified dates and modified by values as in the source library? I know we can preserve metatdata using the Manage content and structure GUI and saving as templates, but anyway to do it via stsadm?

Import Wizard fails because it is scared of potential data loss

I have a monthly reporting process that requires that I pull data from one system (System A) and load it into SQL Server (System B), the system I'm pulling from generates a .CSV file.  I have a table already built in SQL server to load the data in to with the exact same column names as the .CSV and the datatypes match those that are in System A.

However when trying to load the .CSV via the import wizard it fails because it thinks there is the potential for data loss.  Is there a way to override this overbearing tendency? Because the datatypes match there should be no way that data is lost.

STSADM Import giving outofmemoryexception

I'm trying to move few sites in one site collection to a nbrand new site collection. For that I'm trying to export the sites and import into to the new site collection using the below command

stsadm -o import -url http://localhost/tower3 -includeusersecurity -updateversions 1 -filename phsr.dat

and I'm getting the following error when I try to get a Production copy of the site and import into the Lab Server.

Export command I used is

SharePoint Import/Export or other STSADM commands?

Greetings -

We are currently in the process of moving our MOSS 2007 environment over to a new server.  We currently have a single server farm (SQL, Search, Front End all on one box) and are splitting the SQL off to a SQL Server.  We have gone through the DB copy / restore for the new box.  When looking at the sites it appears that ONLY the servername/sites were moved over to the new SQL box.  We still have servername/pages and servername/sitedirectory, etc... that did not appear to move.  So if I go to servername/sites/executivesite it pops up fine but if I go to servername/sitedirectory/exectuivesite2 nothing.

I started to do a export / import of the entire /SiteDirectory and ran into a size error when attempting to run stsadm -o -export "siteblahblah" -filename placetoputtheexportfile -includefilesecurity so I backed up the same sitedirectory using the -nofilecompression.  The export ran fine with no errors or warnings.  When I attmempted to do the import it went through but with the warning that (simplified) this data does not include the file security settings so it won't be imported".  It imported almost all the data except a few lists and document libraries and excluded almost all file security.  Is there a better way to do this or am I just going to have to keep banging my head till i

stsadm Import with includeusersecurity Messed Up Security in Collection

I used STSADM to export a site then imported it to the same collection but a different URL. I used includeusersecurity for both. The export and import worked.

But this destroyed security for some unrelated higher level sites. One Active Directory group completely disappeared from all of the broken sites and putting it back only helped in some cases.

Trying to fix some sites has not worked at all. Changes made to their security has absolutely no effect. I had to add users into a different already used Active Directory group to get them into the broken sites and this AD group is not even listed within the broken sites security!

It's seems to be related to sites using Active Directory groups only. My sites with purely SharePoint groups seem fine.

I even created a new site at the same site collection level and security still doesn't work!

One recommendation, NEVER EVER USE INCLUDEUSERSECURITY. I have been burned twice now. IT BREAKS SHAREPOINT.

What speeds are you seeing in stsadm import and exports?

I am currently working on project where I am moving a site collection from one web application to another. This site collection is currently in a shared database with other site collections and I will be moving it to another database.

This site collection is about 100GB in size. My export and import is taking about 8-10 hours each to complete. I am just wanting feedback from others if this seems to be normal or do I have some bottleneck in the environment. I have heard a good average is about 12GB per hour but wasn't sure if that is what everyone else is seeing.

Import XML File to SQL Table

Here is a brief example of importing an XML file into SQL Server table. This is accomplished by using the BULK option of OPENROWSET to load the file, and then utilizing the XQuery capabilities of SQL Server to parse the XML to normalized table format. This example requires SQL server 2005 or SQL Server 2008.

First, the following XML is saved to XML file C:\Products.xml.

xml import to database

Hello. I have XML document I use for backups..

I am using this code for importing XML to database:

protected void uvoziPodatkeXML(string backup, int tabela, string destinacijaTabela)
            DataSet reportData = new DataSet();

            FileStream filestream = File.OpenRead(lblPotIzvozi.Text + txtIme.Text + backup);
            BufferedStream buffered = new BufferedStream(filestream);

            //reportData.ReadXml(lblPotIzvozi.Text + txtIme.Text + backup);

            SqlConnection povezava = new SqlConnection(Convert.ToString(Session["cs"]));
            SqlBulkCopy sbc = new SqlBulkCopy(Convert.ToString(Session["cs"]), SqlBulkCopyOptions.KeepIdentity);
            sbc.DestinationTableName = destinacijaTabela;

But there is a problem when XML file is very large, larger than 50MB, it lasts forever to import to database.. I was searching over google, and saw that datasets are terrible slow for this operation.. I found some other methodes for use, but don't know there are no examples, that could help me.

Did someone work on this before?

thanks, yevgeni

ToggleDebugCompilation fails trying to perform "an unauthorised operation"

We're having a problem with the Visual Studio 2008 RTW version of the web deployment projects on a colleagues machine. The project works fine if I run it on my machine, but when he tries to run it on his machine he gets:

ArrayList.ToArray fails!

In my app, I have code similar to the following:

               ArrayList alStartFrames = new ArrayList();
                byte[] abytTest = { 1, 2 };

                byte[] abytCombinedFrame = (byte[])alStartFrames.ToArray(typeof(byte));

            catch (Exception ex)

The call to ToArray always fails and the exception is caught even though I'm pretty sure alStartFrames is an array list of byte arrays. Anyone have any insight on why this is happening?! TIA

XML Schemas: Take Advantage of Existing External XML Schemas with a Custom Import Framework in ASP.N

Over the years, many industry-standard XML schemas and dialects have been developed. These industry-specific schemas embrace the original purpose of XML and are extremely valuable in promoting and supporting B2B interaction. Unfortunately, the ASP.NET Web Services runtime does not allow developers to directly reference external schemas from within their XML Web Services interface (the WSDL file). This article builds an external schema framework as an extension to the ASP.NET Web Services runtime to enable you to reference external schemas within your XML Web Service interface.

Using Infopath form fieldnames in a workflow fails

I designed a form in Infopath and I published it on a SP2007 server to use in a workflow in a library. That goes fine. In the workflow I send an email message. I can use the fields from my Infopath form in the message that I create.
If the workfow is starts, Shrepoints sends me the message. But it does not use the fields from my InfoPtah form in the message in stead I see questionmarks.

Why doesn't it show the fields?

I alse saw (maybe this makes it clear) that when I let it dipslay the URL in the message, it show: http://1.portal.lucasonderwijs, but the actual site is whithout the "1" and it should also start with https://

Has anyone seen this before?

Thank you,
