How to add web parts to personal view?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I'm a site admin and I'm having trouble making web parts available to Contribute-level users to use in a personal view. I have a site with multiple lists. When I log in as a Full Control user and click to "Add a Web Part," I see a list of web parts for the lists on the site. But if I log in in as a user with Contribute rights and try to create a personal view - when I click on "Add a Web Part," nothing happens. Is this a permissions problem, for example do I have to identify which web parts are available for personal views?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Digital Dashboards: Web Parts Integrate with Internet Explorer and Outlook to Build Personal Portals

Digital dashboards gather information and functionalities from a wide variety of sources ranging from Web pages to applications such as Microsoft Outlook and SQL Server, and present the resulting information in a single user interface. Digital dashboards built with the Digital Dashboard Resource Kit (DDRK) are made up of distinct units called Web Parts. Web Parts, introduced with the DDRK 2.01, can contain any Web-based information, are reusable, and integrate with each other and with other dashboards. Creating Web Parts and getting them to work together is illustrated via a sample application that uses a PivotTable view. Integrating Web Parts with Outlook, the Outlook View control, storage, and debugging are also covered.

Personal view reverts back to default after updating properties of item

I am working with a company that has 1 site collection with several sub sites.  I have built 3 document libraries with workflow in 3 different sub sites and all behave as expected.  I have one site where ALL libraries do something perplexing;

If you are in a custom personal view and you go into the properties of a document and then exit (update or not, does not matter) it reverts back to the default view of that library.

Has anyone seen this?  is there an option when creating an album that could cause this?

thanks in advance for any input on this odd issue.

Calculated date field displays differently in List View and Data View web parts

In SharePoint GUI I created a simple custom list with a calculated Date/Time field (Due).  The calculation is =[Created]+7.  I'm trying to display this data on a page using a DVWP.  But first, for testing purposes, I also created a second calculated Date/Time (TestCreate) field in my custom list that is simply =[Created]. In the List View from within SharePoint, the dates show as expected (for example): Created = 8/12/2010 3:45 PM Due = 8/19/2010 3:45 PM TestCreate = 8/12/2010 3:45 PM In SharePoint Designer, I added a Data View web part and the above three data elements (each configured to display mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss tt).  I see the time displayed for the example list item as: Created = 8/12/2010 3:45:30 PM Due = 8/19/2010 10:45:00 AM TestCreate = 8/12/2010 10:45:00 AM I've tested a couple scenarios and the calculated fields always display five hours in the past (along with dropping the seconds).  It seems like the DVWP is returning the date in a different time zone (with no seconds).  The lcid is set right (1033).  I didn't see any time zone settings for the DVWP specifically.  I'm basically stuck.  Could someone help me figure this one out. Thanks.

stsadm export / import custom view / personal view views

Hi, i have to export and import a website with a sharepoint list including all personal views. The personal views are used by the endusers in excel data connections binded to the list.  Loss of personal views during import is not mentioned in the technet discription of export / import command ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766807(office.12).aspx  ) I am actually testing the export / import between two site collections, but always losing the personal views (MOSS 2007 with CU April 2010). This discussion had the same topic http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/4e299838-72c2-4f56-8dc3-05ba2a2999d9  but with no definite answer. Please tell me if this is by design or what could cause this behavior. Thanks in advance. Boris Boris Schlotthauer

List View Permissions and Views for Web Parts

My fellow developers and I are going in circles a bit with our new Sharepoint 2010.  This question probably has several different answers.   I have a list of grades and comments that our Team Leaders want to create and save on Sharepoint.  When saved, the user who was graded should be able to see their own grades.  Its a pretty simple requirement and I'm 90% of the way there.   I created a list with the required fields, and two separate views.  The first view filters the list by the user's name so they see on their grades.  The second view shows all grades in a grouped order by the person who assigned the grade.  To make this second view more readable, I added some formatting with Sharepoint Designer 2010.  It looks nice.   Here's where the speed bump occurs.  I create a web parts page for each view.  The page showing only the user grades works as expected.  The other page, however, shows the list in a view that I didn't create.  No matter what view I select from the "Edit Web Part" menu, it always shows this strange view.  If I select the list, it says its current view is "Default".  The second view I created is set as default, but its not the view I see.  If I change the current view from list menu to the second view specifically, it shows up correctly. &n

More than 2 Personal View Problem

Hi all, I'm having a problem with multiple Personal Views. When I create a second Personal View on a list, if I click on the name of the new personal view on the browse tab, the name in the same browse tab doesn't change. The items are filtered correctly (i.e. it redirects me to the right view) but the name displayed remains my first personal view. The error is just in the browse tab, if i go to the list tab it displays the correct name. And, if I choose to "Modify this View", even if i am in the correct view (although the name displayed is wrong) it redirects me to the ViewEdit page of the wrong view. Is anyone else getting this weird behavior?   Thanx in advance.

Data View Web Parts

What happened to "Show Column Totals Per Group"? in the data view web part.  This was available in SharePoint Designer 2007 but I can't find it in SharePoint Designer 2010.

Add or Remove Personal Web Parts Permission

With Contribute rights, "Add or Remove Personal Web Parts on a Web Part Page" permission is included. What is this permission exactly ? What are Personal Web Parts ?

Does this mean user can add a List or Library Web Part to a page in the site where he/she has contribute permission ?

SharePoint Designer seems to time out generating some data view web parts, reasons?

I am trying to add a few DVWPs to my site's default page using SharePoint Designer. I find that I can add some of these with no issues, I pick the data source and 'Show Data' immediately shows the fields to select from. For another list, selecting show data leads to a long period where SPD appears not to be responding before eventually returning the message 'The server could not complete your request.....'. Clicking 'Details' shows that there is no message returned.

The list I am attempting to query now contains only 2 rows of test data. If I drop a list view web part of the same list on the same page the data appears instantaneously.

Any suggestions on why some lists could prove problematic in a DVWP in Designer?

EDIT: If I select to convert that List View Web Part to a Data View I get the same lack of response from Designer

Web Parts zones are empty after exporting and Importing Personal Web Package

  1. I exported a site to a Personal Web Package using SharePoint Designer 2007 after expanding all the directories in Designers folder list that I wanted to copy from.
  2. I created an empty site collection using SharePoint Central Administration.
  3. I imported the Personal Web Package into the empty site collection.
  4. I corrected all the hard-coded links.
  5. I set the default.master to be the default master.
  6. When I opened the site all of the web part zones that had been filled by custom-made web parts whether they were pageviewer webparts, dataview webparts or image webparts, were empty.  Only those webpart zones that were included by default like those on non-customized DispForm and NewForm pages contained any webparts.
  7. I have been informed that this is not the way that this tool is supposed to behave.

Filtering Joined Data View Web Parts

Hi All

My requirements:
There is a list view of briefings on my homepage. End-users will need to open a briefing, take a quiz related to the briefing, and then upon passing the quiz, the briefing will be removed from the list view on the homepage.

Current structure:
Briefings are kept in a 'Briefings' list. Upon completing a quiz, an entry is generated in a 'QuizResults' list, with either a Pass or Fail Status. There could be hundreds of briefings, and there will be around 1,000 employees needing to take the quizzes.

I have linked the data sources 'Briefings' and 'QuizResults' and created a DVWP in SPD. First showing the title field from the Briefings list, and then adding the 'Status' and 'Created By' fields from the QuizResults list as a joined subview. the two lists are joined by a common field, 'UniqueRef' (a UniqueRef is common for all records in QuizResults relating to a record in Briefings with the same UniqueRef).

I am aiming to filter the joined list so that it only displays the title from the Briefings list, when the following occur:

Briefings\@UniqueRef = QuizResults\@UniqueRef  AND  QuizResults\@Author = [Current User]  AND  QuizResults\@Status != 'Pass'  [ie quiz has been taken and not passed]

Displaying SharePoint lists in Web Parts

When you create a built-in or custom list in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, Windows SharePoint Services creates a Web Part, a basic building block of a SharePoint site, to display that list. These Web Parts are called List View Web Parts. Windows SharePoint Services stores List View Web Parts in the site collection Web Part gallery. (The site collection Web Part gallery is the most central gallery of Web Parts for a work group. By default, the gallery name is the name of the site, such as "Our Team Site Web Part Gallery." )
