ASPX SharePoint Page: use value of drop-down to make up URL

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I'm unsure if this is possible but here goes. I have a SharePoint page that I am editing within SharePoint Designer. I have built a drop down box alike the following:

<asp:DropDownList runat="server" ID="MyTestSelect" AutoPostBack="True">
<asp:ListItem Text="Test Site 1" Value="TestS1"></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Text="Test Site 2" Value="TestS2"></asp:ListItem>
<asp:ListItem Text="Test Site 3" Value="TestS3"></asp:ListItem>

As well as the Site where the page I am working on I also have 3 subites: TestS1, TestS2 and TestS3.

I have a Web Services DVWP on my page that shows the sites SiteData (GetListCollection shows list of Site lists and libraries) of TestS1 site. I can export the web-part, update the code to point to the other sites (TestS2 and TestS3 - just update a handful of URLs) and save seperately to re-use them on my page, however, I wanted to know if I could use the drop-down to dynamically build the URL's?

My webpart currently references "http://MyServer/Test/TestSiteArea/TestS1/_vti_bin/sitedata.asmx?WSDL<

SharePoint Designer can't open defaul.aspx page

I tried to edit the default.aspx page of a WSS 3.0 site using SharePoint Designer and I get the following error:"The server could not complete your request.  Contact your Internet service provider or Web server administrator to make sure that the server has the FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Service installed."When I click on the 'Details' button I get:"soaperverServer was unable to process request. ---> A Web Part or Web Form Control on this Web Part Page cannot be displayed or imported because it is not registered as safe on this site. To fix this page, contact the site administrator to have the Web Part or Web Form Control configured as safe. Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

SharePoint Designer 2007 - Customize List View - Error when saving view ASPX page

We have a custom list definition that includes custom site columns.  When we try to open one of the list view aspx pages in SharePoint to update the view query we get an error when trying to save the page in SharePoint Designer 2007.  We receive a warning that the operation will customize the page from the site definition, which is fine.  And then get a general "Server error: ServiceRequestorID" alert.  ServiceRequestorID is a custom site column used by the list definition.

ServiceRequestorID field definition:

<Field ID="{FA39D24D-AB40-4b1d-BD80-94ABE34A7578}" Name="ServiceRequestorID" DisplayName="Service Requestor ID" StaticName="

from custom list and generate an xml. So the output is xml. Our site is an internet facing site and it is anonymous

I have created as custom task edit browser enabled Infopath form which successfully gets open when user clicks on Edit task. But by default it opens up in the WrkTaskIP.aspx page which is available in 12 hive..Layouts folder.

Now the default WrkTaskIP form provides two following options as hyperlinks 1. Delete item, and 2. A link to navigate to the task display form

Adding the Content Editor Web Part to a SharePoint Layout .aspx page

we've created a layout page that contains the Rich Text Editor web part. But the client requires a web part that allows the embedding of audio/video files. The Rich Text Editor strips out the objects when we try to embed them.

I've used the Content Editor Web Part to add audio and video files (by manually adding the web part to the page), but I can't find the definition for that web part to include it in the layout page so that the client doesn't need to manually add the web part themselves to every page that requires it. (Which could be many pages.)

Any help would be appreciated.

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

Launch CMD File From ASPX Page

My organization uses a CMD file to install updated files for a major enterprise application. Currently, we send out an email to users with a link to the file and instructions to run it, BUT inevitably users don't update their machines until their in field and try to start the app.

We're now liking the idea of using an ASPX page to prompt the users to run the updates and to capture the fact that the updates have been run. I realize that we can't capture the success or failure of the update. But we'd like to capture the user accessed the page.

Is it possible to embed into the markup for the page a link to the file on the local intranet that the users can click on to run the file?

The user accessing the page would capture that they did just that. We'd deal with wether or not the update was actually installed or if it failed later with them directly.

Visual Studio closes itself by opening aspx-Page designer after Windows Update

Hey Guys,

I've a problem with my Visual Studio.

On the 13th of August 2010 i installed a Windows update on my vista sp2 pc. For this date my Visual Studio 2008 sp 1 always has closed itself by opening an aspx-page in designer view. There is no error message just closing the window. I restored a backup of my windows from the time before updating it and it helped, i could open aspx pages in the design view till the update has been installed again automatically after rebooting the pc. I can't disable windows updates, cause it's my pc at work and safety is very important. I hope you could help me out of this disaster.

How to use a drop down list to edit in the standard Edit.aspx with DD?

Hey All,

I'm brand new to Dynamic Data and to ASP.NET.  I've been able to fumble around and get the calendar extender up and running and a few other customization options implemented, but I can't seem to get this drop down list to work - even after reading tons of online info.  The good news is that my web page/application is VERY simple, so hopefully you guys can help me out.  I'm working in VB btw.

I have a list of road projects submitted to me by local governments.  One of the fields is SponsoringAgency, which has a limited number of possible entries (the names of member governments).  Thus, when they submit a new project, or edit an existing one, I want to limit the input into the field "SponsoringAgency." I'm trying to use a dropdownlist because I'm familiar with it from Access, but it may not be the best approach.  Imagine you just setup a brand new, standard DD website, how would you get this to work?

Methods tried and failed (probably because I don't understand them fully):

UIHint - The closest I can get with this is an error saying that since SponsoringAgency isn't a Foreign Key, I'm out of luck.

Creating a SponsoringAgency Table - In my data layer, I created a second table with a list of government names.  I then tried se
