Problem with adding third party webparts and sharepoint webparts to the custom pages

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

Hi All,

I have a problem with my custom webpart pages which are inside sitedefinition. I have a sitedefinition defined for creating sites and sitedefinition contains the master pages and .aspx pages. My pages have webpartzone defined to with the custom webparts added in it. From the browser, when I try to add third party webparts or sharepoint webparts or my custom webparts, it's failing with "Unable to add selected web part(s). The operation could not be completed because the Web Part was deleted by another user or is invalid." Does anyone have the same problem? Please help me. Why the pages are not allowing to add any other webparts to the page. Also I double checked my pages and webpartzones if I am blocking to add webparts via AllowCustomizations=false but I am not. If I create a site with the sitedefinition, isn't it possible to add webparts to the page manually? I haven't found any information about this. Any ideas please.

Thanks in advance,

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible

How to change the order of Webparts in Sharepoint 2010 wiki pages

In WSS you change the order of webparts just by moving them above or below another webpart. This does not work any longer in SP 2010. I want to move a list webpart above another list webpart. How can I do it [SP2010 Foundation].

Sharepoint 2007 - Wiki site - New Pages Not Inheriting Custom Master Page

I am working on a SP site (MOSS not WSS) which is heavily customised away from the OOTB layout. I need to create a Wiki site, which was going well - I've created a master page which displays the miniconsole (this was not visible with our customised layout), and made it the default master page for the site. This has been applied to the two standard pages that come with the Wiki site, however when a new page is created, it seems to inherit the default.master, rather than my custom master page - thus not showing the miniconsole.

When I have created a new page, I am able to use SharePoint Designer to attach my custom master page to it, which works perfectly, however this will not be a viable option going forward as end-users create their new wiki pages.

How can I get the new pages to inherit my master page when they are created?

Adding a custom ASP page to a sharepoint 3.0 site

I have a custom ASP page that I need to add to my sharepoint 3.0 web site.  I created a virtual directory under my website and placed the ASP file.  When I link to the ASP file, I get a 404 page not found.  To make sure I had the correct URL path, I created a test html file and placed in the same virtual directory and linked to it just fine.  I think it has something to do with managed paths and sharepoint trying to control this new ASP content.  I cannot figure out how to exclude this content from managed paths.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue so I can run this custom ASP file under sharepoint 3.0?

Problem with SharePoint Designer 2007 and Custom List Forms

I created several forms (Create/Edit/View) for a SharePoint list, using Custom List Forms.  I'm using Content Types in the list to ensure that each item only has the necessary fields.  When I created the ASPX forms, and inserted the Custom List Forms, I selected the correct Content Type, and I got the right fields inserted in the form.

Now, for some reason I can't identify, every time I create a new form, and insert a Custom List Form, SPD is bringing ALL fields from the list, instead of just bringing the fields included in the selected Content Type.

I have tried many different things to solve the problem, including creating new lists/content types/forms, etc. but SPD is doing the same thing all the time.

Can somebody tell me what may have gone wrong in SPD or MOSS?

Problem changing/upgrading properties on WebParts that have already been deployed and added to Share

I have created two custom webparts which I deploy as a Feature within a Solution.  These webparts have been added to various pages on my site.  Due to design changes, I upgraded the webparts with some new functionality and some other changes to the webpart properties, such as the WebPart title, title icon and catalog icon.  After I have retracted/deleted the old solution and re-deployed the new solution (and activated the feature) the webparts have been upgraded fine, however, the webpart properties were not changed for any webparts that were already added to pages.  I can add new instances of the webparts and they have the updated properties (and also show correctly in the wp gallery and catalog). Is there a step I am missing in order to upgrade any webparts (namely the properties) that have already been added to pages?  Or is this something I have to take care of programmatically somehow to workaround the upgrade problem?

Unable to Use ToolkitScriptManager in Sharepoint 2010 webparts

Custom Web Part Problem After SharePoint Restore

Hi, I've recently moved our sharepoint site and databases (using Microsoft Internal Database) to another standalone server. I did a catastrophic backup and then restored it on the destination server successfully via the central Administration page. I have also copied our custom web part library dll to 'c:\windows\assembly' directory and 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\bin' directory. I also copied over the old web.config file to 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80'. However, I still seem to be missing something as I get the error below while loading the site. I haven't been able to find a solution so hoping someone has seen it before here. Has anyone seen this happen before? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Adding a custom control to the SharePoint 2010 Team Site Wiki Page Template ( wkpstd.aspx ) programm

Topic This is maybe my last post about the Team Site Wiki Page customization with the aim of exceeding its limitations. This time we are going to customize the unique template ( wkpstd.aspx) by replacing the control that renders the editable content by a custom one. In this post example, we will take advantage of the use of this custom control to render not editable additional contents, for instance, a header and a footer that could be the same for a specific Wiki Page Library. Of course, we are not going to really customize the template, but we are going to use a delegate control to replace the control at runtime. Here are the screen shots of the result: We can see a non editable Header and Footer on the Team Site Wiki Page In edit mode these additional contents are not rendered, but we can add new content as usual And of course, after having saved the page, the new content is rendered wtih the non editable Header and Footer. Steps required   If you look at the Team Site Wiki Page template, wkpstd.aspx, you can see the control that is rendering the editable content/ <SharePoint:EmbeddedFormField ID="WikiField" FieldName="WikiField" ControlMode="Display" runat="server" /> We are first going to create a custom EmbeddedFormField control Then, we are going to use a delegate control to replace the native EmbeddedFor

WebParts with audiences based on SharePoint groups containing AD Groups are not visible.

My client has two webparts on a page. Each of the webparts is audienced with a SharePoint group. Each SharePoint group contains one or more AD groups. The groups are not deep nested. I.e. SharePointGroup -----> ADGroup -----> list of user accounts.. When a user in any of these groups browses to the page, they cannot see the webpart. An AD user added to the SharePoint group sees the audiences webpart properly. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948681 references this issue, however these servers are all recently built with Service Pack 2 slipstream install media, so this hotfix is not valid. They believe that the webparts were working fine previously, but then some ILM work was carried out in the AD over the weekend and it's possible that this has changed some fo the group memberships. Given that we're using SP Groups and AD Groups, Does the actual SSP Import bear any relevance to these memberships or does SharePoint use a (potentially cached) Group memberships object on the SPPrincipal? SharePoint WebParts - View or Contribute

Hello: I would like to set different permissions to different share point webparts on the page.  For example some users (groups) would have read only access to some webparts and others can contribute.  Our security is that two SharePoint groups were created for the subsite.  One group with the Read and the other with Contribute permissions.   These design however makes all webparts either Read ony or Contribute only for all elements of the page.  This design defines the whole subsite for the users eaither Read only or Contribute - depending which group I will add them too.   For example, I cannot make Discussion Board make to add items if they belong to Read group - all webparts are read only.   There must be some security setup that would allow that. Can you provide some advise? Thanks.       I expected that I I add user to ReadGroup this person would

Problem with Update of Sharepoint Taxonomy Fields in custom developed Content Types

Dear all, we developed an solution on sharepoint 2010 for one of our customers with custom lists and content types with fields from the managed meta data store. As recommended we developed everything in features & solutions so that easy deployment is possible. Adding metadata to the termstore seems to work without problems, but today we stepped over an confusing issue: Our customer changed the default label of an term in the metadata term store, but the label did not change in listviews and detailviews of items in the specific sitecollection. In editview we see the correct label. After searching a while we discovered the connection between the sitecollection and the term store, the hidden Taxonomylist (/Lists/TaxonomyHiddenList/AllItems.aspx) in the sitecollection, which seems to map the terms. After testing we discovered that the term/label did also not change in the hidden taxonomy list. The Timerjob “Taxonomy Update Scheduler“ is running hourly with success and we also tried to start the job manually, but the label did not change in the hidden list. Also there are no errors in the logfiles in verbose mode. We also tested to create a managed metadata field manually, put it in a list and after that, changed the label. For whatever reason the update of labels on manually created fields works without a problem. Our lists, content types etc get created pr

SharePoint Branding: How can one customize Silverlight WebParts?

Hello, I've designed my own custom master pages. However, the Silverlight WebParts in the, for instance, Site Settings > New Site dialog is unaffected by the changes. What is the most easy approach to change these colours in the Silverlight WebPart in the dialog? Is it possible to customise them with a style file like a CSS file or XAML file? or do I have to use themes in order to accomplish customization of Silverlight WebParts?   Regards, Jan Maximilian Kristiansen

Writing Custom Webparts

Thanks to some feedback from .NET Frenzy and others, I've decided to explore some custom web parts. I do have one concern: what factors should be considered [regarding custom webpart code] when planning to upgrade from sharepoint 2007 to sharepoint 2010? How can a custom webpart be written so that it will be supported by later releases of sharepoint? Are there any issues there? Thanks. Of course I'm also researching this myself, but any information you guys give will be taken into account.
