How do generate a Reference Number with a prefix?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

In the past I have generated a "Reference Number" for new forms submitted by setting the default value for the Reference Number-(integer Data type) to "max(@Reference_Number) +1". I now have a request to have the Reference Number begin with "REQACH" followed by the number that is generated as above.

I assume that the data type needs to be set to string but that seems to disqualify the logic that I use above for generating the next "number".  I've tried to generate this value using several different iterations of the Concat function with no luck.

Any assistance you ca offer to help me meet this requirement will be greatly appreciated.

A little background because I feel I have an out of the ordinary architecture in place and don't know if this is contributing to the problem.

We have an existing ASP.net application that is undergoing expansion.  The new functionality is all written in Silverlight 4.  As part of that expansion I gutted all the old Linq to SQL and put Entity Framework 4 into place.  To do this I created a standard .net Class Library and added my edmx files there.  Naturally, the business entities created by this cannot be used in Silverlight.  So I created a Silverlight Class Library and added all the business entities to that Silverlight Class Library as linked files.  I changed the name space to be the same.

So I have the following assembly / namespaces

Company.Project.Dal.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (.net 4 class library)

Company.Project.Entities.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (SL4 class library)

With this architecture I was able to share my business entities with my SL enabled web services, my asp.net projects, my silverlight projects.  Really it's a beautiful thing.

Once this was done I added "message" classes to Company.Project.Dal and again shared them with the other entites using linked files.  These messages are things like MyObjectRequest; they are class

How do I generate service reference activities in my rehosted designer

My desginer is used to create lots of xamlx workflows.  These are hosted in app fabric. From Visual Studio I can add a service reference that points to my workflows, and it generates activities in my toolbar that I can use to call my service from another workflow. I'd like to do the same thing from my rehosted designer.  I figured it would be something like calling svcutil.exe, but couldn't find any information on this. Does anybody know how to create xaml activities by pointing at a service for a workflow designer rehost?   CheersJason Bolstad

Sharepoint Checked Out Word Document Cross Reference Error on Page number Only

I see the same error as RHABALA reported in an earlier thread, after I check out my Word Document from Sharepoint into Word 2010.

When I Control-click on any of my Cross References to Page Number, they fail with the warning prompt, they seem to be incorrectly pointing at the Sharepoint path. But when I Control-click an any Cross References to Paragraph Numbers,  they still work. I've added my Sharepoint Site to the trusted list in Internet Explorer, as recommended in that thread, but no difference, the error persists.

Grateful for your assistance.

How to generate a random number sequence that is non-repeating in visual basic .net ?

I am writing a matching program, and need 24 objects to randomly appear, each twice, across 48 spaces. I figured the best way for me to do this would be to assign the positions a number 1 through 48. but the problem is I can't find a way to generate a random number sequence in visual basic 9 .net

I found many examples in visual basic .net but the conversion doesn't work. If not some code, many some example programs that either use a random number sequence or randomly sets the position of objects.

A better way to reference your wizard steps using named steps

Note: this article uses the plain vanilla but the concepts apply equally well to its popular counterpart .

By far the most common way that I see wizard steps reference in code snippets is by their index.
