Video: Large List Support in SharePoint 2010

SharePoint 2010 has support for very large lists of up to 50 million items. With this expanded list size comes the ability to throttle and control how much data is returned to the user and prevent large queries from compromising the SharePoint farm. (Length: 15:36)

how do I support a "list of approved applications" that can connect?

Suppose I have two instances of an API -- one for production and one for staging. Both use integrated security. Anybody (on the LAN) can write an application that connects to the staging API. However, I want to restrict the applications that connect to the production API (until they've been well tested, etc.). What is the right way to perform this restriction in WCF? I don't even know what unique terminology to use for a web search on this topic.

does SPD support filtering of the mail title/body we send to a list/library?

for example, if we send a mail with the title of "%hostname% %ipaddress%" to a list. can SPD WF filter the title and get %hostname% to a new variable? the reason to ask this is i want to send a well-formated mail to sharepoint and the automatical WF can recognize the change of the list items and update the relevant columns by the filtered content from mail title or body. thanks!

Xsltlistviewwebpart social tagging error on cross site list

Hi! I have exported an xsltslistviewwebpart through SPD 2010 and when asked if I want to show a specific list or parent path I choose specfic. I then import the webpart file on another site and this show the list perfect with ribbon and everything. But when I click the social tagging & notes I get a new popup with a error message in: "The page you selected contains a list that does not exist.  It may have been deleted by another user.<nativehr>0x81020026</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>" This is the same error that I get if I try to import a xsltlistviewwebpart without making the correct export. If I click this button on the original listview I dont get the error and I can add tags. The same problems goes for the I like button.Findwise AB

Programmatically creating a cross list XsltListViewWebPart

Hi, Does anyone know how to create a cross list XsltListViewWebPart in code? I can create a XsltListViewWebPart for a single list no problem. But if I don't set the ListId property and set the DataSourceMode to  SPDataSourceMode.CrossList I always get the error "Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartPageUserException : List View Web Part could not be added, list may be hidden.". I can't find much documentation on it. Does anyone have an idea how to get this to work? Thanks a lot,   Dan

How do we use SQL queries for list data?

I have created some normalized data in hidden lists to protect the innocent and negate the need to get separate Database permissions on a very secure client server.  Trying to word this so I don't sound confrontational but I need a better way to query my SharePoint Application. CAML is simply not meeting the need.  How do we use real SQL queries for list data?

My humble thanks in advance,

# string with cross site lookup field value of List in datasheet view in moss 2007

I am getting appended # code value with cross site lookup field value of List in datasheet view. I dont want that hash coded value, i need actual value. Please provide me the solution.

Cross site lookup field value contains the parent list item id and the title field separated by ;# i

Actually we are using third party component for cross site lookup and facing the problem with cross site lookup field value. Its showing the correct value in default list view mode, but in "Edit in Datasheet" and "Export to Datasheet" view cross site lookup field value contains the parent list item id and the title field separated by ;#. I need the actual value in "Edit in Datasheet" and "Export to Datasheet" view as shown in default list value, i dont want that appended parent list item id and separated by ;#.

Is there any OutOfBox soluiton for this. Please suggest me for the same.

Thanks,
Rajanikanth

WSS 3.0 Cross Site-Collection List Lookup

Hi all

New to Sharepoint here, so apologies if the question is unclear.

We would like to store centralised reference data in a dedicated site-collection and allow it to be accessed from other site-collections using list lookups. Can anyone recommend a webpart that would allow us to do this? I've found lots of cross-site list webparts, but not for crossing SC boundaries. Is there an OOTB feature that we could extend to achieve the same thing?

Thanks

Ewan

cross-site list lookup using sharepoint 2010

Hi All,

Just want to ask how can I cross-site list lookup using sharepoint 2010.

I’ve created two Sites. TestSite1 that has a list called List1 and TestSite2 that has a list called List2. The problem is when I tried to create a lookup column in List2 so I could see the List column in TestSite1 I could not find it.

How can I do this using the OOTB SharePoint 2010?

Thank you in advance.

64-bit ODBC support for Linked Server queries

I have a number of applications that require data from a TeraData DW.  Linked Server queries run fine on the 32-bit Windows Server 2003 instances, but our organization is pushing to move to 64-bit (X64, not Itanium) server OS, for obvious resource managemetn reasons.  The problem *appears* to be that Microsoft did not include the 64-bit ODBC provider in the OS (that used to come with MDAC, which no longer exists -?)

I've heard rumor that this was reinstated with Server 2008, but I haven't been able to get it to work.

Will the x64 SQL Server 2008 include the missing shared DLL to enable the use of third-party ODBC drivers as data source for Linked Server queries?

This is said to be available option, and was planned for the series. We unfortunately didn't see anything after part 3, and I am asking part 9 topic!

Any help will be appreciated. I want to show a list frmo root site in sub-web.
