Bad language filter for discussions and blog

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have setup a sp site for our users to blog and create discussion forums.  I would like to have a filter setup to prevent individuals from posting inappropirate comments.

I figured I could use a approval workflow which partially worked for Post but when a user then comments it is updated automatically I want an approval process for this as well. If anyone has a better way to resolve this issue I'm all ears.

Filter discussion web part by blog category

I have a blog site with a category web part as navigation.

When i click on CategoryA, it opens : /Lists/Categories/Category.aspx?Name=CategoryA

When i click on CategoryB, it opens : /Lists/Categories/Category.aspx?Name=CategoryB

In category.aspx, i have added a discussion webpart, i have also added a column which is a lookup field which lists all the categories.

So that when you create a post, you tag the post with the correct category.

Now when i provide a filter from the category webpart to my discussion webpart:

The only column i can select from categories is "category with link", next screen i select the field category from the discussion web part.

But this does not seem to work. Clicking on CategoryA or CategoryB displays all post's regardless of the category in the  post.

Not sure if this is the way to do this, so any help is appreciated :)

I'm currently using wss3.

Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) Loop

discovered an interesting error recently while working with Microsoft's Collaborative Application Markup Language (CAML) that, surprisingly, had received no ink. Partly what surprises me about this is that the error may require you to rewrite large sections of your code if you haven't previously considered this SharePoint limitation. I'll start with some context, but first of all the error is:

Using jQuery to Filter Table Rows

The project is using the .net GridView control, so I had limited control over the output HTML code. Still, I think this code can work for most tables. One thing to notice: you should use the class "filterable" on your table or on one of its parents for the code to work.
First, we need a text box:

GridView Multiple Filter AJAX Control

This AJAX control enables the user to filter data within any column inside a GridView. The user can add multiple filters and can delete existing ones too.

How to Localize Windows Forms and Change the Language at Runtime

Localization is the process of customizing your application to a particular language, culture or locale. Visual Studio provides support for localizing Windows Forms with much ease. In this article, we will see how to localize windows forms and give the user the ability to change to his preferred language at runtime.
When you run a localized application, the appearance is determined by two culture values. The UICulture property is used to specify which resource files will be loaded for the form. The Culture property, on the other hand, determines how strings such as dates, numerals, and currency amounts are formatted.
Let us see the steps required to create a localized form. You can then expand this example and adopt the same approach for the rest of the forms in your project

Voice eXtensible Markup Language

This document specifies VoiceXML, the Voice Extensible Markup Language. VoiceXML is designed for creating audio dialogs that feature synthesized speech, digitized audio, recognition of spoken and DTMF key input, recording of spoken input, telephony, and mixed-initiative conversations. Its major goal is to bring the advantages of web-based development and content delivery to interactive voice response applications.

Where to Filter the companies returned by the EF?

I am just starting with dynamic data. I have an enttity framework called UsersModel.edmx.

It returns a list of all companies in the tblCompany table. This list is really big.

I need to filter the list returned to all user controls on the client so that it only returns the company that have a CompanyTypeId= 2 or CompanyTypeId= 3 and company name != "".

1 - Is it possible to filter the company list returned on the server so that I can filter only once for all the controls that use that on the client?

My ideas was to do something like this using linq and lambda but I am not sure how:

return tblCompanys.Where(c => c.CompanyTypeId == 2 || c.CompanyTypeId == 3 && ).Where(c=>c.CompanyName != "").OrderBy(c => c.CompanyName).Distinct().OrderBy(c=>c.CompanyName);

2 - I have created a partial class and a metadata class and added the DisplayColumn attribute to use the company name and sort by company name ascending.

Could I use the code to filter the returned companies in this? where?

namespace MarsMedicalModel
    [DisplayColumn("CompanyName", "CompanyName")]
    public partial class t

Filter by Computed Column

After looking for a driver to open legacy dbf drivers to connect, the next level trouble a have is this one:

first, i can retrieve the data but when trying to filter by a parameter (somesc columns) i get an error.

The error says about the database can't determine some blah blah!

The error is a columm tha is formated (  1234  ) about  8 space, fixed. The values in the query appears like that. I resolve this by Trimming Ltrim(ColumnName) and i get this (1234).

Now in SqlExpress, how can i filter by the new Trimmed Expression? (This is a primary key that the DBF use)

SELECT column1, column2, column3

SELECT Ltrim(column1) as NewExp, column2, column3
Where NewExpre = @NewExpres                  -Error-

LDAP nested groups filter

Hi all,

In my organization we use nested groups.

For a particular usage, we have a group (let's assume that the group name "kuku"), and the names of all the nested groups under it contains "kuku" as well.

We may assume that no other group in the LDAP has "kuku" in the name.

I need to create a filter which will return all the users which belong to one of the "kuku"s group.

Obviously, using this filter will bring only the head kukus

(&(&(objectclass=user)(objectclass=person))(memberOf=CN=kuku,cn=.rest of the group DN.))

How can I use wild card to fetch all users which belong to any kuku?

For example: (&(&(objectclass=user)(objectclass=person))(memberOf=CN=.*kuku.*))

Problem with changing language using culture info

I'm using the following msdn article to use different languages in my web application:

I'm following the instructions step by step in VS 2010, and it creates the resource files exactly how it's supposed to.

However, when I run the program it just doesn't apply it. I don't see the different values from the resource file.

If I leave my resource file name as sample.aspx.resx, it works. But when I change it to sample.aspx.en-us.resx, it doesn't work. I'm supplying culture from the aspx page's Culter and UICulture properties. I'm being very careful in choosing the correct file name, as that could be the issue,  but it just doesn't work. I also tried changing the culture in the backend code this way:

For Multi-Language website which process is better in asp.net

I want to build multi-language website in asp.net 2008 and asp.net 2010. So, which process is better for building application? Using either Local and Global Resource or New Folder to make separate according to language?

Application performance should be good and also easy manageable.

Please suggest me in which way I will build the application either using resource or folder. If there is any other better solution then please share.

but there is error : unrecognized tag prefix or device filter 'CR'

Problem 2 :

The vb code of the crystal report that I had created has 'ComponentModel is not a member of 'MYPROJECT.system'

What is the best language?

I bet this is going to stir some people up ;)

What is the best language to use with .NET? Now personally, I am a VB kind of guy because of ASP, but have done some C++ in the past (the real simple stuff, like what you first learn in a high school ap comp sci class). One thing I've noticed is most of the more advanced samples and articles online are done in C#. What is so great about C#, vs VB and C++? I've heard C# executes faster than VB, but would that only apply to the first time the page is compiled, because isn't it also true that each time a page is accessed after it has been compiled it is done so in the CLR? So then, does it not matter what language a given page is in? Now my understanding on the speed of a page execution is not necessarily the language, but rather how much data the processor has to go through. VB has longer and more words than say C++ or C#. Does it make that much of a difference?

Is VB designed more for the hobbyist or beginner, and C# more for the enterprise level guys?

Also, is VB or C++ destined for death in future versions of .NET? I mean, C# is new, but looks a lot like C++, so then is C++ not going to be supported in the future?

Just some thoughts from a loley VB programmer getting tired of translating from C# ;).
