Filter discussion web part by blog category

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :C#

I have a blog site with a category web part as navigation.

When i click on CategoryA, it opens : /Lists/Categories/Category.aspx?Name=CategoryA

When i click on CategoryB, it opens : /Lists/Categories/Category.aspx?Name=CategoryB

In category.aspx, i have added a discussion webpart, i have also added a column which is a lookup field which lists all the categories.

So that when you create a post, you tag the post with the correct category.

Now when i provide a filter from the category webpart to my discussion webpart:

The only column i can select from categories is "category with link", next screen i select the field category from the discussion web part.

But this does not seem to work. Clicking on CategoryA or CategoryB displays all post's regardless of the category in the  post.

Not sure if this is the way to do this, so any help is appreciated :)

I'm currently using wss3.

SharePoint Blog - Admin web part - newBlogPostOnClient JavaScript function

In the Admin Links web part in a default blog site, there are several links, the last one of which launches Microsoft Word and allows you to manage your posts from the Word blog template.  Cool feature.  But that web part is not configurable and I can't figure out how to duplicate that functionality.  It appears to have 3 GUIDS that are part of the function, part of the last parameter looks like the Posts list GUID, but it is concatenated with another GUID.   I want to either create my own web part or modify the XSL of the page to call the function, but I'm not sure what those other GUID parameters are.  Does anyone know?  The last one seems to be two of the separated by the # character.

How to pass a parameter from a choice filter with project IDs to a KPI web part?

I have an excel pivot table like this:

Report Filter: Project ID
proj_name     Status
A              70
B              60
C              80

I have this workbook published onto Sharepoint server through excel services.
On the site i have a choice filter that has all the project ID's. I am able to show this table in a web part and filter the web part by passing parameter from the choice filter to the report filter in the workbook as shown above.
I added a KPI webpart that uses the "status" from the above table as its indicator value. What I want to do is that I want to pass the parameter from the choice filter on the site to this KPI web part so that it will show me the corresponding status dynamically accoring to the project chosen.
Can someone help me solve this problem?

Building my new blog with Orchard - Part 1

Several people have asked me if I would move my blog to Orchard. There are actually several challenges with this that have nothing to do with Orchard itself, but suffice it to say that right now I'm not really considering it. On the other hand, for a long time I've been wanting to create a second, more personal blog about movies, books, video games and opinions to clearly separate the software stuff from the rest. I've been posting several times on science, games and even on politics here but it always felt a little wrong and I felt obligated to tone it down seeing that this blog has a clear association with my employer, Microsoft. Anyway, the release of Orchard 0.5 looks like the perfect opportunity to create that new blog. I have big plans beyond just blogging for this site and the flexibility of the Orchard platform will be perfect for this. I will document the whole process here as it unfolds.I'm starting with a standard 0.5.144 zip release as downloaded from CodePlex. As I wanted to be able to do local module development that I would later deploy to my hosted account, I started by deploying into a local IIS 7 directory configured to run in the default ASP.NET 4.0 application pool. This way, I can point VS or WebMatrix to my local directory and hack new modules. My next step was to deploy the files to my hoster after convincing him to switch my site to the 4.0 app pool.

Can the default member for the sql server analysis filter web part be a mdx expression or not

I have designed a dashboard , some parametrized reports ( on date and time) in my case with a cube as datasource, added an analysis services 2005 filter, connected it to the reports. The issue concerns the default value for the filter . I f I choose [Date Local].[Calendar Hierarchy].[All] it works well. But the business requirement is to use the last day where there have been registered a measurement which in my case looks like the following mdx expression: Tail( Filter ([Date Local].[Date Key].[Date Key].Members , ( ( [Advisor Organisation].[Advisor organisation].[Contact Center].&[Denmark]&[Kundelinjen], [Measures].[Calls Offered] , [Date Local].[DK Holiday].&[False] , [Date Local].[Week Day].&[True] ) > 0 ) ), 1).Item(0).Item(0) The expression is all right as I use it in my report as an mdx filter expression. But when I use apply it I get an invalid dafault member value. So the question is : Does the filter support an mdx expression ? If yes, is there another syntax or change in order to make it work ? Thank you a lot for your answer.

Sharepoint Filter Web Part Connection to Picture Libary Web Part

It seems that a sharepoint or choice filter web part can connect to any list object in sharepoint that is displayed in a web part on a page but the picture library.  I want to allow the user to select a value so that only the image that applies is viewed (along with any correlating information stored in its library). Is there a work around for this?  I've looked all over the web and can only find where someone else has asked in another forum and has not yet received an answer.  I'm sure this isn't the first time this has come up, so what are folks doing to accomplish this?

SQL Server Analysis Services Filter web part.

Hi all In a NTLM farm with 1 SharePoint and 1 SQL server, I am using clamis based authentication for Excel Services app in SharePoint Server 2010. While all Excel documents work, I get error on "SQL Server Analysis Services Filter" web part. The filter works when I am logged on the sharepoint server and open the Intranet to use it, but doesn't work if I reach the Intranet by not logging on the SharePoint server. The error I get is on the filter web part: "An error occured while retrieving filter values (The connection either timed out or was lost). Anyone else that have had the same problem? Any ideas to troubleshoot? :) Regards

Choice Filter Web part and Excel Web Access web part

I have a choice filter web part where in I have months like Jan,Feb,Mar etc and a excel web access web part. The choices in the filter web part should determine the URL of the workbook for the excel web access web part. In the filter web part I gave the choices as Jan;http://sitename:port/ExcelList/MyExcel.xlsx where "ExcelList" is the library that stores the excel files for each of the months. But the excel web part always says that "The file selected couldnt not be found". Is it possible for me to know the actual URL getting passed to the excel web access web part? Pl suggest if there is a better way to do this. Cutloo

User Filter web part: how to show items with no value in it

I want to set up a document library View that shows the current user all items with their Department name in a column, as well as those items that don't yet have a Department name. I thought I could do this with the User Filter web part, but I am struggeling to show the items that don't yet have a department name. The problem I have is this: I created a view called "My department's items". I use the User Filter web part on it to show the user all items that have got the user's department name in a column. However, when a user forgets to fill out the department name after uploading a file, or even when they upload the file but then cancel filling out the compulsory fields, the uploaded file disappears from the "My department's items" view (because the department column is empty). How can I set up a filter to show all files that match the current user's department name as well as those that don't have a department name yet? Thanks.

Blog category view not showing any posts?

Is there something i need to do for the category specific views of posts?I have the categories webpart, and people are adding their posts to 1 or more categories, but when clicking on one of the categories it shows no posts what-so-ever.  THe only posts that do show are ones where I remove all categories.I have tried editing the current view and typing the category name in and that works, I am assuming that the category should be put into that field from the query string by the webpart??? or is there something i need to do??Thx for all help offered.

Building my new blog with Orchard - part 2: importing old contents

In the previous post , I installed Orchard onto my hosted IIS7 instance and created the "about" page. This time, I'm going to show how I imported existing contents into Orchard. For my new blog, I didn't want to start with a completely empty site and a lame "first post" entry. I did already have quite a few posts here and on Facebook that fit the spirit I wanted for the new blog so I decided to use that to seed it. The science and opinion posts on Tales of the Evil Empire always seemed a little out of place (which some of my readers told me quite plainly), and the Facebook posts were blocked behind Facebook's silo walls even though they were public. You still need a Facebook account to read those posts and search engine can't go there as far...(read more)

blog web part navigation blue bar

How do I make the title of a list appear within the web part and have the "blue bar" appear behind it. The ootb categories, other blog posts, and links does this. but, how do i make a new list do the same?

If I could do this, then I could have one site for my blog that includes links to documents and lists from the navigation.

Organization Filter (Direct Reports) Web Part

According to this Technet article, there is a filter web part called the organization filter: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262682(office.12).aspx.

I can't find any information about it so I figured I'd ping the gurus... Ideas on what it is and/or where I can find it?

Filter on web part not working for certain columns

Hi all,

I have a list of "Faults" - this contains the Shop Number that the fault was logged against (which is a lookup column to the "Shops" list), who logged the fault ("Created By") and the details of the fault ("Title").

If I add the list as a web part and filter by Created By, it works perfectly - I get multiple entries in the list for all faults logged by a certain person.

However, if I filter by a Shop Number - I only get a handful of entries in the list, going back a few days - anything older than that is simply not there.

Yet if I go to the main page for the Faults List (AllItems.aspx) and change to Datasheet view - the filter works perfectly, I can see EVERY entry for a particular Shop when filtering on Shop Number.

Any ideas? It only seems to happen when using a Web part OR a DFWP - as a result, I can't pass the Shop Number as a filter parameter to it, nor can the users see a complete history of faults when viewing individual shops.

I've no idea what has changed recently, other than deletng some custom views we had created in the Faults list - could this have caused a problem? Can the Faults list be "reset" somehow without losing any data? To clarify - it's ONLY happenning when the list is viewed as a web part of DFWP, when it's viewed in Datasheet m

Best Practice for connect SSRS Report Viewer Web part with custom filter web part (With Dropdown\Lis

To make a filter provider web part, I implemented the interface ITransformableFilterValues.
Implemented the various properties of the ITransformableFilterValues interface
and method that creates an instance of our filter provider.

[aspnetwebparts.ConnectionProvider("AccountFilter", "ITransformableFilterValues", AllowsMultipleConnections = true)]
public ITransformableFilterValues SetConnectionInterface()
return this;

Is this a best practice .Please share your suggestion.

How to filter a sub list which is part of another list

I want to filter the list which is already part of another list.

Class MainClass

          String Name

          String MainAddress

          List<SubClass> ExtraInfo

Class SubClass

          String Address

          String City

          String PhoneNo

Now i have 10 items in my List<MainClass> and each item in List<MainClass> has 2 ExtraInfo items this is List<SubClass> items.

Now i want to filter List<SubClass> items with Condition City == "New York".

So, all 10 items in the main list (List<MainClass>) should have the ExtraInfo (List<SubClass>) items based on the filter condition.

I mean i just want to filter the Sub list not the main list.

Thanks in Advance!
