Migrate FP 2003 to VWD 2010 is it possible?

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

I have a Web site with hundreds of pages built with FP 2003.   I have just installed VWD 2010 and I would like to migrate the FP 2003 Web site into VWD 2010.   The FP 2003 doesn't have a Project File that VWD expects, so I am stumped.   Any suggestions?

Migrate/Upgrade from Office 2003 (Excel, Access...etc) to Office 2010

We are about to begin a project to upgrade our MS-Office suite from 2003 to Office 2010.  This will include the migration of a large number of excelwork books with macros and access database and forms,   Is there an established (or tried and true) process for conducting the analysis work to determine if the excelwork books require individual attention (evaluation, conversion and testing) or can be converted in bulk?

Are there any know issues?

Our company have a strong support relation with microsoft, Does any one know the perfect person who did similar kind of work or can help to do this?

Thanks, Vijay

Office 2010 will not open Office 2003 Documents on SharePoint

Going directly to a document in the document view and selecting any of them will present the Read Only/Edit prompt and when clicking Read Only Word or Excel 2010 depending on the document type will open to a blank page and just sit there. If you do a search and then click on the documents that are returned in the search results, it opens as expected.

Migrate/Move Document Library from Sharepoint 2007 to Sharepoint 2010

Hi, I have a customer that is setting up a new SPS 2010 environment. They have a Sharepint 2007 environment with one document library containing only PDF files. They will not need any metadata on these documents, but would like it to be moved to the new SPS 2010 environment only to be used for history and free text search. Is there an easy way to accomplish this?   Regards Christian GrannesChristianLLoyd

MOSS 2007 to SharePoint Server 2010 Hybrid Upgrade Approach on Windows Server 2003 x64

There's some guidance circulating about upgrading to 2010 with a mix of In-Place and Database Attach upgrade methods. My Central Admin and SharePoint Web App are on a 64 bit server, but it's running on Windows server 2003 x64 and not on Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2. SharePoint Team Blog says Server 2008 or 2008 R2 is required for SP2010. If I want to do the hybrid upgrade approach, is it possible to first upgrade the OS to Server 2008 R2 on the server where my Central Admin and SP Web App runs?  Or will this break MOSS 2007?

Migrate from SPS 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 on SBS 2008

Good news is a white paper and technet article came out on how to do this.  Bad news is that it had a significant error, and when I downloaded to follow, it was the day before the correction. I have finished the migration almost, but there are some issues that manifest itself on IIS and in trying to attach the saved configuration database. When I launch SPF Management Console, I get a warning message that"the security token service is not available." I also get two application event log postings, the first an error and the second right after a warning as follows: Event ID 8306 Category Claims Authentication.   Description: An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: Could not connect to http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc . SSAS 2008 R2 Cube being queried by Excel 2010 Pivot Table - 60x slower than with Excel 2003!

SQLServer 2008 R2

Excel 2010 x64

Hi All,

I have a fairly complex Excel report where a raw data sheet is updated from 10 or so PivotTables pulling from an Analysis Services Cube, (2008 R2), with a VBA script that refreshes all pivottables, and then does some post-processing, formatting etc.

This was originally developed in Excel 2003, and the updating of all the pivot tables ran in under 10 seconds

I've now recreated in Excel 2010 and *each table* is taking up to a minute to refresh!

I've also observed that I can get the refresh time of a single table back down to 1sec, if I delete all other pivottables from the worksheet/book.

Its deeply frustrating, as I'm touting 2010 as being the way for our business to go...it won't help the cause if I deliver something with a x60 increase in runtime!

I've run traces of both the 2003 and 2010 versions executing against the SQL Server, the only thing I can see is that the 2003 version passes 1 single MDX query, whilst the 2010 version appears to be firing it in sections.

I've posted this in the Excel forum too.

Please can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Migrate Sharepoint Foundation 2010 to New Server

Due to unusual blue screen problems on virtual host, I need to migrate Sharepoint Foundation 2010 to a new server. Everything is installed on the same server. I have a new server stood up and awaiting data. Is it as simple as going into Backup/Restore and performing a Farm Backup and then a Farm Restore on the new server? What exactly needs to happend to get this done?

Import Word docs with Metadata into SharePoint 2010 from Windows Server 2003

I need to import 700 Word docs (2003 & 2007) from Windows Server 2003 into a SharePoint Server 2010 library.  I only have a test server to work with right now and want to do as much pre-work before we launch the actual server.

My goal: When we launch the shpt server, import all docs into a library so that columns propagate with metatdata automatically.

I'm not sure what the best approach is...

Can I can open each doc and add custom properties (maybe with InfoPath) to import as metadata, then import managed metadata through the term store tool and have it associate with the manually entered custom properties? I don't fully understand managed metadata, which might pose a problem.  And before I start importing terms, I thought I should find out if I've completely misunderstood how taxonomies work.

Or I have an excel spreadsheet with info about each doc in columns that can act as metadata. I could upload this as a list then associate each doc with the list.  But it seems wiser to enter the metadata into the documets.

Is it possible to update my docs in advance so that uploading goes smoothly? I have help now for data entry that I won't have later.

I have no resources to spend on tools, and have to figure out and build this&nbs

Sharepoint 2003 with Office 2010

We work with Sharepoint 2003. I've put a Excel 2003 file online.

On a PC with Office 2010:

When opening this file for viewing it shows the file, ok.

When opening the file to edit with Excel it starts Excel (2010), but shows an empty sheet.

Any idea what's wrong here?

Opening Word 2003 document from sharepoint site in word 2010.

When using sharepoint services with word 2003 on an XP machine, everything works fine. We bought some new computers where we now have windows 7 and office 2007/2010. These work perfect too. Even the 64-bit computers.

We are very happy with the new office version, so we decided to upgrade the entire company. As a test, we upgraded 1 PC. But this is not working. So we upgraded office, later we reinstalled it. But nothing helps. This is the problem: I surf to the document click it to open it, and then Word hangs. "contacting server". This is not always the case, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This even with the same document.

We would really like to upgrade to office 2010 entirely. But we're not going to buy licences we cannot use. Anybody got a solution?

Search for people in Sharpoint Server 2003 from Sharepoint Server 2010.

Anyone know how to setup so that Sharepoint 2010 crawls Sharepoint 2003 people?

We have tested adding a new content source called People with a content source type of sharepoint and used sps://site.domain.com/site$$$people as the start address.

When trying to SAVE/OK we get the following error.

The start address "sps://site.domain.com/site$$$people" is not valid for this content source type.

downward compatibility - VWDx 2010 to VS 2003

I'm a sporadic user of asp.net and VS.  Wrote an asp.net application using VS 2003 and haven't really touched it in a few years.  I now need to do some minor upgrades but I no longer have access to VS 2003.  I downloaded VWDx 2010.  Following questions:

1. I am assuming I can figure out how to import my old project and edit it in VWDx 2010.  But any pointers or thoughts would of course be appreciated.

2. Can I update the application in VWDx 2010 and still deliver it to my client and have them run it in in their current environment (which hasn't changed, I believe, from whatever was compatible with the app i developed in VS 2003)?  Any special things to look out for?  Would they need to upgrade their .net framework?

Thanks.  Sorry if I sound semi-ignorant.  Not really - just rusty.
