Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

I came to gather the requirements for a website migration project from asp to asp.net. I want to know what kind of requirements i need to capture? What i am doing is, i am studying the existing website and planning the requirements based on the understanding. No additional functionalities are required from client. Is i am in the right way or not? Is it the right way to capture the requirements for .net site. Can anybody guide me in capturing requirements?

Memory Requirements

I was wondering how to calculate the memory requirements to deal with larger tables.  I have a table with one billion records.  The table consists of an int column (Primary Key), a uniqueidentifier, and several bit columns.  I removed the primary key while we inserted all the records to improve the insert time, but now I'm having a problem regenerating the primary key.  I run the following command to create the primary key: ALTER TABLE MasterReference ADD CONSTRAINT PK_MasterReference PRIMARY KEY (MasterReferenceId) It gives me the following error: Msg 1750, Level 16, State 0, Line 1 Could not create constraint. See previous errors. The statement has been terminated. Msg 802, Level 17, State 20, Line 1 There is insufficient memory available in the buffer pool. I also get the "insufficient memory available in the buffer pool" when I try to query the table.  I only have 4 GB of RAM which I suspect is not enough to deal with large numbers of records.  I would like to know how to calculate the necessary RAM and if needed, how to properly configure SQL Server to process this large table. I appreciate your help. Al

SPTrace service account requirements

Iam getting an alert that says my SPTraceV4 service is using a built in account.  I checked an sure enough it is using a local system account.  The problem is I can't figure out how to change the account in sharepoint - I tried manually changing the service in MMC to a domain account but this did not resolve the alert.  Does anyone know how to do this, and if I do have to do it manually, what rights & permissions this account needs? Thanks!

a bit confuse with the requirements of the user profile sync

Hi,   I'm setting up a SP 2010 farm environment, where I want to configure the user profile synchronization (AD based). After some difficulties resolved, I finally was able to make it works.   After that, the health analyser tells me it's bad to have services running with a user in the local administrator group. However, the setup guide tells me to add the user to the group.   In order to clarify, can you tell me what are the exact prerequisites of the user account for : * the service User profile synchronization service (same as farm admin service) ? On my farm, domain\spadmin by now * the instance of the user profile synchronization application ? On my farm, domain\spusersync   I've granted on the domain (w2K3 domain) all required permissions to write properties on both accounts (spadmin and spuser).   What are the next steps ? as my profile synchronization is set up, can I simply remove the user from the local admin group ?   thanks for clarifications, steve  Paying back the community for its help by writing articles : Have a Nice Day.Net Blog

SharePoint 2010 Hardware Requirements

Hi all, We have a client that wants to use SharePoint 2010 to host the web site. They have the following hardware specifications: Three VMWare hosts. Each have the following: •             HP Proliant DL360 G5 •             CPU: Intel Xeon E5420 2.5Ghz •             32GB Memory •             vSphere 4 Standard •             All the hosts are connected to an EMC SAN via fibre channel connections. Will this be sufficient, or will they need to upgrade their hardware? Thanks in advance

SharePoint 2007 hardware requirements

Can someone confirm that the below specs are sufficient enough to run MOSS 2007.  It will be for about 1500 users/1 WFE and 1 Database server. We are expecting about 100 users logging in same time.

Eventually, I would like to use the same servers as part of our future once we upgrade to SharePoint 2010.  Please let me know if any more info needed.  Dell PowerEdge R810 will be running the below specs...

Server 1: SharePoint WFE and Application Server

2 quad speed 64 bit processors, 2.66Ghz per core

32GB ram

160 GB HD space

Server 2:  SQL/Databaase server

2 quad speed 64 bit processors, 2.66Ghz per core

64 GB Ram

250Gb HD Space

                64-bit Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with SP2

                64-bit SQL Server 2008

Database server version requirements

I have a very simple question but I am not sure in answer. I have to install Sharepoint server 2010 enterprise edition and I put it in farm with sql server 2008 enterprise edition.

My question is which edition of SQL server 2008 are compatibile for Sharepoint 2010 enteprise edition. If I choose SQL server 2008 Standard edition is there any limitation about services and features in Sharepoint. (currently we use performance point services for reporting).

Thanks in advance.

LAN Replication network requirements

I have a merge replication topology setup within a LAN with pull subscriptions, everything working great.  However, I'm currently facing an issue where an outside company is making a network change.  After the switch is made I am no longer able to connect to my publisher from my subscribers.

I'm not a network admin and am somewhat new to SQL Server Replication.  Is there something/somewhere I should be looking at here?

System Requirements for Sharepoint Designer 2010

Can I run Sharepoint Designer on an HP mini with only 1GB RAM and Windows Home Starter edition, or will I need to upgrade the RAM and/or OS?

Not sure what OS or RAM is required, also probably should ask how much disk space is required as well.

Not trying to do anything custom, just design a basic Sharepoint site with the server end done by a hosting service.

Setting "Reduce storage requirements for text properties by using a hash for comparison." using powe

Hey all,

I have a need to enable 'Reduce storage requirements for text properties by using a hash for comparison.' for a crawled property, i'd like to do this in my 'set search scopes' powershell script, where I define everything the crawler should be doing but I can't find the appropriate powershell command to do so, can anyone help?

At the moment I simply have one line setting up the property:

-FullTextQueriable  1 -Retrievable 1 -IncludeinMd5 1

Gathering multiple values from a checkbox list.

Hey everyone!

Thanks to some help from this forum I was able to gather a value from a gridview based on a selected checkbox.  However,  I would like to be able to grab multiple values instead of just one.  I tried using a for loop to gather my information and populate labels as a test.  However, that caused an error.  This is the code I currently have to use.

foreach (GridViewRow gvr in GridView1.Rows)
                if (((CheckBox)gvr.FindControl("CheckBox1")).Checked)

                    lblTest.Text = gvr.Cells[1].Text;

Is there any advice anyone could suggest to gather multiple values and populate other labels? the other labels are labeled accordingly as lblTest2 and lblTest3. I currently am gathering my data from a gridview and only want to pull the StaffID from gvr.Cells[1].text.  Any help would b
