Best method for typing a custom object thru a web service

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :Windows Application

I have several web services with a custom business object being used as a parameter (MyNamespace.MyBizObj).

After I create my web references that same  business object gets retyped to whatever web service that is is in Example:

webserviceRef1.MyBizObj, webserviceRef2.MyBizObj, webserviceRef3.MyBizObj

Right now my UI isn't allowing me to retype this object back to the object that I need. In essence I need one unified version of this object that I can use across web services.

passing messageContract object to a WCF Service method using Soap - not as a method parameter

i want a web application to create a service reference to my WCF service, insert information to the header of the soap call and call my WCF method. my WCF supports soap operations (also there is an endpoint in the config). i read about MessageContract attribute and declared one in the interface file: [ServiceContract] public interface IBasicService { [OperationContract] [WebGet(UriTemplate = "GetData?value={value}")] // Add support for HTTP GET Requests string GetData(int value); } [MessageContract] public class BasicServiceHeader { [MessageHeader] public string myString; } the implementation of the contract : public class BasicService : IBasicService { public string GetData(int value) { return string.Format("You entered: {0}", value); } } i don't want the BasicServiceHeader to be passed as a parameter of GetData function , i want to keep the function signature as it is (without a BasicServiceHeader parameter) and to extract the BasicServiceHeader inside the function, (just like using soapHeader) can i do that ?

CreateDocument method in CMIS Object Service raising the Constraint Violation Exception

HI All,

Below are the code snippet for rasing the above exception like  "The operation violates a Repository- or Object-level constraint defined in the CMIS domain model. "

error using a custom collection object in a WCF service

I'm relatively new to WCF but have gotten most of my service to work very well. I'm having one "strange" problem: My service makes use of several custom data types, and all of them work fine except for the custom collections. Note...I am NOT trying to pass a collection object to the client...I am simply trying to initalize and use it from the main service object. Here is an example:

<ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode:=InstanceContextMode.PerSession)> _
Public Class User
    Implements IUser

Public Memberships As new Memberships   ' this is the collection I am calling!

Public Function countMemberships() as integer Implements IUser.countMemberships
return Me.Memberships.count       'this returns an error! Object reference not set to an instance of the object...

    End Function

End Class

' and here is my custom colection

Public Class Memberships
    Inherits System.Collections.CollectionBase

Public Sub Add(ByRef Membership As Membership)
    End Sub

Thinking about new C# method prototypes: object as dictionary

I recently had to write a small Flickr API. I know many .Net API for Flickr already exist but I needed one for a Silverlight application. Whatever, it's only about building some querystrings so I did it by myself. It's been an opportunity to think again about a classical question: how to pass parameters to a method ?

Imagine you have a generic method to call some Flickr functions.

Jscript error: Object does not support property or method

Hi, i have little knowledge on javascript but i need to use this code get from somewhere for a jquery to work.

I face this "Jscript runtime error: Object does not support property or method" whenever im trying to run this page.

In my experience, im get this error msg 9 out of 10 times i use javascript in my system.

Im using Microsoft Visual web developer 2008, i wonder if this is related to my problem, i not sure there is anything i need to add as reference or update anything.

But anyway, in short, i just couldn't use javascript code when using this development tool because of this sort of error.

Anyway, it happen that last time i tried use the same type of jquery code in another project and it seems to work well without an error.

But now when im try to use it again in this recent project i created, it come out with this error and i have no idea how to solve it even look through google and this forum.

It doesn't really seems like its the code problem itself although im not sure, because any javascript code just couldn't work.

So below is my code that i need to use.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js" ></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src=&quo

Geneva Framework: Building A Custom Security Token Service

A Security Token Service, or STS, acts as a security gateway to authenticate callers and issue security tokens carrying claims that describe the caller. See how you can build a custom STS with the "Geneva" Framework.

Contexts in .NET: Decouple Components by Injecting Custom Services into Your Object's Interception

The .NET Framework can use contexts as an object's execution scope and intercept calls going to and from the object, similar to the way COM+ provides component services. What is new with this mechanism is that the runtime allows developers to take part in the interception chain and add powerful services, thus extending existing component services. This in turn decouples the business logic from the system plumbing and simplifies long-term maintenance. Presently, .NET contexts and interception are undocumented aspects of .NET. This article presents the underlying interception architecture and message processing, explains custom context attributes, and walks through a custom interception-based component service.

Building a Custom Data Grid: Performing Ad Hoc Web Reporting with a VBScript 5.0 Class Object

A flexible, customizable grid for displaying data is a useful tool for ASP developers. It allows Web visitors to customize their view of your data. This article takes the data grid presented in "Ad Hoc Web Reporting with ADO 2.0" by John Papa and Charles Caison (MIND, December 1998) and adds handy features such as a finds feature that supports multiple finds and a mode for adding and editing records. This version also improves response time by allowing asynchronous record download and it componentizes the code so it can be used as a standalone VBScript class object that can be reused in other pages.

A little background because I feel I have an out of the ordinary architecture in place and don't know if this is contributing to the problem.

We have an existing ASP.net application that is undergoing expansion.  The new functionality is all written in Silverlight 4.  As part of that expansion I gutted all the old Linq to SQL and put Entity Framework 4 into place.  To do this I created a standard .net Class Library and added my edmx files there.  Naturally, the business entities created by this cannot be used in Silverlight.  So I created a Silverlight Class Library and added all the business entities to that Silverlight Class Library as linked files.  I changed the name space to be the same.

So I have the following assembly / namespaces

Company.Project.Dal.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (.net 4 class library)

Company.Project.Entities.csproj / Company.Project.Entities (SL4 class library)

With this architecture I was able to share my business entities with my SL enabled web services, my asp.net projects, my silverlight projects.  Really it's a beautiful thing.

Once this was done I added "message" classes to Company.Project.Dal and again shared them with the other entites using linked files.  These messages are things like MyObjectRequest; they are class

Problem passing custom object returned by the same webservice among two separate projects

I am running into casting issue with this scenario: 1. I made a custom object lets call it EmployeeObject.  2. The Employee object is wrapped in the EmployeeWebservice.  3. I have a client application project lets call it EmployeeClientApplication and a class library called DoSomeWorkClassLibrary.  Both EmployeeClientApplication and DoSomeWorkClassLibrary reference the EmployeeWebService and need to be able to pass the EmployeeObject back and forth.  4. The EmployeeClientApplication also references the DoSomeWorkClassLibrary. 5. The employeeObject in the EmployeeClientApplication becomes EmployeeClientApplication.EmployeeWebService.EmployeeObject. 6. The employeeObject in the DoSomeWorkClassLibrary becomes DoSomeWorkClassLibrary.EmployeeWebService.EmployeeObject. 7. The DoSomeWorkClassLibrary has a method called DoSomeWork that takes an EmployeeObject. When I try to pass employeeObject from EmployeeClientApplication to DoSomeWorkClassLibrary by doing something like this: DoSomeWorkClassLibrary.DoSomeWork(EmployeeClientApplication.EmployeeWebService.EmployeeObject), I am getting Unable to convert EmployeeClientApplication.EmployeeWebService.EmployeeObject to DoSomeWorkClassLibrary.EmployeeWebService.EmployeeObject.  I have searched high and low to fix this issue, I have tried changing the namespace of the reference.cs file of the webservice in

Cash Drawer - Method Open threw an exception - Windows Service

Hi All, I'm getting the following exception while calling Open method of Cash Drawer object. Method Open threw an exception.  Could not read the device name key's default value, or could not convert the Programmatic ID it holds into a valid Class ID. Code:   class Class1 { CashDrawer _uniCashDrawer1 = null; DeviceInfo cashDrawerDevice1 = null; PosExplorer posExplorer = new Microsoft.PointOfService.PosExplorer();   public void ClaimCashDrawer() { cashDrawerDevice1 = posExplorer.GetDevice("CashDrawer", "testDrawer"); if (cashDrawerDevice1 != null) { _uniCashDrawer1 = posExplorer.CreateInstance(cashDrawerDevice1) as CashDrawer; if (_uniCashDrawer1 != null) { _uniCashDrawer1.StatusUpdateEvent += new StatusUpdateEventHandler(UniCashDrawer1_StatusUpdateEvent); _uniCashDrawer1.Open(); _uniCashDrawer1.Claim(0); _uniCashDrawer1.DeviceEnabled = true; } } } }   Tha above code works fine if you put the code in WindowsApplication in all POS systems. The same is working if you put the code in Windows Service in all other POS systems. The same is not working if you put the code in Windows Service in Aures Galeo POS systems.  Thanks in advance. How to set and map a Method in the Service file with endpoint elements and binding elements

Hi all, I have created a service file like OSService.svc in that i have two methods like one is FileUpload and FileDownload for e.g :- [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "/fileupload/{fileName}" , Method = "POST" )]         [OperationContract]         void FileUpload(string fileName, Stream fileContents); same as Filedownload also. People you may know these methods are inside the interface of service file what you are using i'e i have created a interface as IOSService.cs. So, what i need now is i want to write separate endpoint for FileUpload and Filedownload.Because i want to set separate value for receiveTimeout  and openTimeout for the Fileupload and FileDownload process in binding section in the web.config file itself. The below code was i'm using right now but still i'm not able to the set separate value of endpoint elements in the bindings. EndPoint Section:- <endpoint name = "endPoint1"  address  = "localhost:8000/OSService.svc/" bindingConfiguration = "TransactionalTCP"   binding  = "netTcpBinding"          contract = "IOSService"/> Binding Section:-  <binding name = "TransactionalTCP"  transactionFlow = "true"   /&

Custom WCF Service (svc) gives address scheme error

Hi, I'm reading a book by Sahil Malik on building solutions for SharePoint 2010 (from Apress). One of the items explained is how to create a custom WCF service that can then be consumed in different scenarios (.NET app, silverlight, javascript). I followed the steps as given in the book, but when I try to open the URL to the service, I get this error: This collection already contains an address with scheme http.  There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. Parameter name: item I have to mention that when I added the mapped ISAPI folder to my VS project, it didn't create the project subfolder automatically and I accidently created my files (svc and web.config) on the root level of the ISAPI folder. I created the subfolder manually and moved these two files in the subfolder, but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe I overwrote something on the root of ISAPI ? My web.config contains this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <configuration> <system.serviceModel> <serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true"/> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="customBasicHttpBinding"> <security mode="TransportCredentialOnly"> <transport clientCredentialType="Ntlm" /> </security&g
