System.InvalidOperationException: Invalid attempt to read when no data is present.

Invalid attempt to read when no data is present.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.InvalidOperationException: Invalid attempt to read when no data is present.

Source Error:

Line 54:             {
Line 55:                 Response.Write(reader.GetString(0));

Here is my code:

Linq2Sql error: "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed."

I've read up on this error from other posts and on other sites, but haven't found a solid resolution to the issue yet. My setup is as follows:

I have a RepositoryBase class that fields certain db calls that all repositories need to perform. In one such call, "GetSecurityGroup", it works most of the time, but will seemingly at random throw an exception with the error "Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed." All other Repository classes inherit from this one, and they all use the same DataContext object, which I understand isn't thread safe. Since there could be multiple calls to the DataContext object on the same page, perhaps one is using the DataContext when the next tries to do so. I'm not sure. What can I do to ensure this doesn't happen?

SslStream.Read() - Returns invalid data

Hey,I am currently attempting to implement a multi-threaded C# socket, using SSL (.pem file/certification/private key combo) server using Visual Studio C# Express.I have successfully made the client application establish a connection, and send data, which appears in plain, de-crypted text on the server - this works.However, I am 'polling' the socket to see if data is available to read.Here is some code which is appropriate:----        public void Process(int threadId)        {            int BytesRead = 0;            try            {                Master.Log("BEGIN READ");                sslStream.ReadTimeout = 5000;                BytesRead = sslStream.Read(bytes, 0, bytes.Length);                Master.Log("READ " + BytesRead + " bytes");                if ( BytesRead > 0 )                {                   // process                }             } catch (IOException e) {                Log("Caught IOException: " + e.Message);                if (e.InnerException != null)                    Log("=========> INNER IOException: " + e.InnerException.Message);         }---- Here is some console output when running the application:---------LOG: Authentication successfulLOG: BEGIN READLOG: READ 140 bytesLOG: [Thread 0] [Client 1] [Address 127.0.0.1] Client.ProcessDataReceived()Text received from client: Testing

Namespace 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient' cannot be found.

Hey Guys. I'm having some really annoying issue using ADO.NET connector. I've added reference to my project- the file "MySQL.data.dll" Actually, i've copied the file from "MySQL Connector Net 6.2.2\Assemblies" to "MyWebSite\bin" and then added reference. Then, typed "using MySQL.data" and as you can guess, i've got that message: Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient' cannot be found. What am i doing wrong? thanks ahead

MVC architecture in ASP.Net using C# and Microsoft Data Access Application block

The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern separates the modeling of the domain, the presentation, and the actions based on user input into three separate classes [Burbeck92]:

Model. The model manages the behavior and data of the application domain, responds to requests for information about its state (usually from the view), and responds to instructions to change state (usually from the controller).

View. The view manages the display of information.

Controller. The controller interprets the mouse and keyboard inputs from the user, informing the model and/or the view to change as appropriate.

Individual field - MySQL

Hi

I was wondering how to recieve an individual field from my MySQL database.

I have been able to get a row, but what I am trying to do is get a name from my database and set it into the HeaderText in my DataGrid.

The way I am trying to do it at the moment is

using (OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand(formQuery, con))
            {
                con.Open();
                formDataGrid.Columns[0].HeaderText = cmd.ExecuteReader(
                    CommandBehavior.CloseConnection |
                    CommandBehavior.SingleResult).GetValue(0);
            }

This doesn't seem to get a value from the GetValue, but if use

using (OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand(formQuery, con))
            {
                con.Open();
                formDataGrid.DataSource = cmd.ExecuteReader(
                    CommandBehavior.CloseConnection |
                    CommandBehavior.SingleResult);
                formDataGrid.DataBind();
            }

it will bind my data into the grid.

I just want to be able to change the HeaderText in the first coulmn of the DataGrid from one table and have the DataGrid be filled from another table.

I can fill the DataGrid its just changing the HeaderText that I am having trouble with.

Any help?

MySql.Data assembly problem

Hi,

I added refernece MySql.Data to my project. My web.config looks like that:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
    <connectionStrings>
    </connectionStrings>
    <system.web>
        <compilation>
            <assemblies>
                <add assembly="MySql.Data, Version=6.1.4.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=C5687FC88969C44D"/>
            </assemblies>
    </compilation></system.web></configuration>

But when in ServerExplorer I try "Add Connection..." I can't find "MySql Database" in the "Choose Data Source" dialog box?

What the problem can be?

Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET

Hi all,

I was rummaging the internet learning aspx and came across the concept of: Microsoft Application Block for Data Access in .NET

It seems great of course. The articles are all early 2003-5 such as

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/MS_Application_Blocks.aspx

So the question is - is this tech still relevant and should I be using it?

Thanks,

Mat

Data Points: Deny Table Access to the Entity Framework Without Causing a Mutiny

Julie Lerman shows database administrators how to limit access to databases from the Entity Framework by allowing it to work only with views and stored procedures instead of tables-without impacting application code or alienating developers.

Data Access: Building a Desktop To-Do Application with NHibernate

Building an NHibernate-based desktop application isn't any harder than building a web application, and in many cases NHibernate simplifies elements of session handling and concurrency.

EF Data Access: EF v2 and Data Access Architecture Best Practices

Developers deploy a wide variety of development philosophies and architecture styles. This article explores three common perspectives on application development and describes how the Entity Framework can be employed in each. Specifically, the article looks at the forms-centric, model-centric, and code-centric development styles and their relationship to the Entity Framework.
