Sybase Access SSIS Packages

Posted By:      Posted Date: April 10, 2011    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I am working on accessing data from our Sybase Databases to pull data over and place it in our MS SQL Server. We may not be able to install the needed Sybase driver and datasources on the SQL Server. If that is the case, I am not sure if this alternative would work, but wanted to ask the question.

We have a file server available. So if we load the Sybase driver and datasources on this file server, then I deploy the packages to a loacation on the file server, would I be able use SQL Agent on the SQL Server (located on another server) to run then package and would the datasources be accessed off the fileserver? The problem is we can add the datasources and driver to the file server but not an instance of SQL.

I have not tried this before and wanted to see if it is possible. If not is there another solution that could be used?

Errors when using Proxy/Credentials to execute SQL Agent jobs that access SSIS packages

Running SQL Server 2008, on Windows Server 2008.

I'm having a problem trying to execute a job.  The job has executed successfully when I configure the SQL Agent account (domain account with sysadmin permissions in the instance) as the owner/executor of the job.  However, I want to tighten down security so I'm trying to use a proxy/credential.

Here are the steps I've followed:

1) create a non-privileged SQL account called "SQLJobOwner" that owns the job.

2) create a stored credential (domain account) that has an account on the local machine where the instance resides, and has "log on as batch" permissions.

3) created a login to the instance for the domain account that is stored as a credential, and granted sysadmin permissions to the account.

3) create a new proxy called "SSISProxy", and granted access to the SSIS subsystem.

4) Added job owner "SQLJobOwner" as a principal in the SSISProxy configuration window.

5) changed the job step that executes the SSIS package to "Run as" the "SSISProxy".

When I execute the job, the job fails with the following error:

Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: Could not get proxy data for proxy_id = 1).  The step failed.

In addition, I get

Transactions in SSIS packages

Hi guys - I've been working in ssis for a bit but never have encountered the need for transactions - until I realized that I really need them. Here's my setup. I have a master package that has a sequence container in it. In that sequence container are 3 execute package tasks (Insert - Update - Delete). Each execute package task points to a child package which contains 50 execute package tasks (to perform the tasks on my different tables). From there - the actual work is done. (default everything on transaction/isolation etc) My problem/question is that I need to make it where if the insert fails, the update/delete do not happen and everything gets rolled back. Right now if something fails it just stops there and gives me half changed records. Is there a way to do this or am I just hoping for un-doable? Thanks!

C# newbie stuck - trying to access column data in a SharePoint list in an SSIS script task

Hello, I'm sure this is the simplest question but I can't figure it out, even with Google's help. I am trying to stumble through some C# code in an SSIS script task and I am frustrated that I can't figure out how to do the easiest things.  I eventually want to find data in a column, and then use another list as a lookup to replace that value with another where the existing value matches a value in the lookup list.  So, the data in my (multiple choice) column might be "apples; bananas" and in another list I have a row that contains two columns, the first holding the value "Apples" and the second containing "Red Delicious" and my original column should read: "Red Delicious; bananas." But, alas, I can't even figure out how to see the data that is in a column. Here is my code: /*<br/> Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Script Task<br/> Write scripts using Microsoft Visual C# 2008.<br/> The ScriptMain is the entry point class of the script.<br/> */<br/> <br/> using System;<br/> using System.Data;<br/> using Microsoft.SharePoint;<br/> using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime;<br/> using System.Windows.Forms;<br/> using Microsoft.SharePoint.Utilities;<br/> <br/> namespace ST_08becda4c05c49cd9f30ea76110076cd.csproj<br/> {<br/> [

SSIS And Sybase Source OLEDB connectivity issue with code page for character set

Hi I am using SSIS 2008 to connect the Sybase Server version 15.0.3 64-bit. The default character set id used by this Sybase server is 4 (i.e. roman8). (http://manuals.sybase.com/onlinebooks/group-charc/chg0300e/charsets/@Generic__BookTextView/1706;pt=266) I had installed Sybase Client for Sybase OLEDB Driver (ASEOLEDB) to integrate this in OLEDB Source Editor. As per guidance from one of the past MSDN forum discussion, I tried setting property of AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property to "FALSE"  (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqlintegrationservices/thread/f5af9328-e1fb-48d7-a85d-1d08bb7cf0e5/). However, I am still experiencing error message as follows:- ********************************************************* Error at Package2 [Connection manager "xxxxxx.xxxxxxx"]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "ASEOLEDB"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "[00000] [Native Code: 30061] [ASEOLEDB]Could not load code page for requested charset". Warning SSIS.Pipeline cannot access global memory

Hi, I'm developing a data migration betwwen two sql servers. Due to transform data i'm developing SSIS DTSX to do that. Environment: We're using sql server 2008 R2 in both source and destination data. To develop we're using BIDS 2008 we're running XP SP3 machines   The fact is that we began to develop in BIDS 2005. We transalate the packages to BIDS 2008. Everytihing is perfect. Sundely, when we add more tasks to the packages, the problems began. * After saving the packages when close the project and reopen the projects what we've done disappeared.      Yes, the task was empty. * Recreate the task and run but we have the problem of SSIS.Pipeline. * Lost the login password of sqlconnection datasources. ...     We've read the post about permissions. We're administrators of our machines. The connection to the database is under "sa" user, so more permissions... impossible. We execute BIDS as Adminstrator but nothing change.     Any help is appreciated.  What can I do?      Dharth

Issues with running SSIS packages programmatically

Hi, I have spent days trying to solve this problem and still stuck with this and I have posted some questions already in forums, but didn't get satisfactory answers. I am trying to be more clear this time and hope to get a better answer. I have gone through this article already http://blogs.msdn.com/b/michen/archive/2007/03/22/running-ssis-package-programmatically.aspx and here are my issues (I need to run the SSIS package from ASP.NET) option 1 is not suitable for me, because it may recycle worker process if it consumes memory option 2 is also not suitable because of security issues in creating a new process and passing the context to new process looks very complicated for me (according to the support article) option 3 is not suitable because using SQL Server Agent to run SSIS package is not allowed by the company I am working for(I guesss it requires installation of db engine on application server, not sure). but SSIS is installed on the application server. option 4&5 will have the same issues as options 1&2. I guess the only option left now is to create a windows service and start the service from ASP.NET. but will this allow running multiple packages in parallel? OR is there a better alternate solution for this? please let me know. Thanks.

I need to create a script in SSIS which creates a data source that connects to an Access database.

I need to create a script in SSIS which creates a data source that connects to an Access database. The Access database file name needs to be set as a variable as it will change from month to month. I have no idea what I am doing can anybody give me some tips? Mr Shaw

SSIS Execute Process Task Give "Access is Denied" error but it is not related to access control.

Hello All - I have a very weired SSIS problem. I am using BIDS in two machines - Windows 7 Professional Edition x64 bit (development workstation) and Windows 2003 Standard Edition x32 bit SP2 (server) . The visual studio version on both the machines are Version 2.0.50727 SP2. I found that my package's ExecuteProcessTask fails with "Access is denied" error in Windows2003 but runs ok in Windows 7 dev box. I then tried to debug the package in the Windows 2003 environment itself. The package failed in debug mode too with the same message. After looking for a while I found that when I shorten the Argument length of the failing ExecuteProcessTask the task did seem to work. So in Windows2003 environment if my argument exceeds 1846 characters the ExecuteProcessTask fails with message "Access is Denied". If the argument string is less than 1846 it works ok. In Windows 7 environment there is no problem at all. It does not seem like access problem but I may be wrong. Has anyone seen this? I will appreciate any reply. Thanks, Niben

How to merge SSIS packages

Hi Guys, Is there any way to merge changes into SSIS package under version control. It's a plain XML, which is easy to merge, but it's also quite easy to make the package invalid. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks, V.

OS upgrades & risk on mission critical SSIS packages?

Hi Folks A risk management question. We are considering upgrading from Window Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2. We currently have SQL 2008 sitting on top of of WS 2003 and  have a number of mission critical SSIS packages that run on the machine.   Do OS upgrades pose much risk to SSIS packages? Any suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.    Thanks  Steve

Calling SSIS from Access .adp project

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'll try...

I have to execute an integration service package in an .adp project. In other words, click of the button on the adp window has to start a package or a job.

Can that be done? And if yes, how? I've been searching the Web but without success.

Thanks for your help.

how do i do a minimal client tool install to execute SSIS packages

I am trying to migrate our processing from command line based scripts and foxpro to SQL so I need to run the SSIS packages using dtexec. I copied the dtexec file and a few dll's that are missing to our production servers but i cant execute the packages. I dont want to install the full client tools (particularly managment/business inteligence studio) on our production servers due to the overhead and limited system disk space.

Can somebody tell me what the minimum install would be so I would be able to run SSIS packages using the dtexec or dtexecui tools? I would also like to install some of the other command line client tools like osql etc.

how to access ActiveX DLL (.Net) functionality from SSIS package

Copy SSIS packages from 2005 to 2008

I have both vs 2005 and vs2008 on the same pc. When i try to copy the package from the BIDS 2008 from file Copy as i get an error

Storing or modifying packages in SQL Server requires the SSIS runtime and database to be the same version. Storing packages in earlier versions is not supported.

Do you know how to fix this issue.

Reading AND Writing Access 2 databases with SSIS

I went for a job interview this morning, and one of the scenarios that the IT manager (a former programmer) told me about was the following .... If anyone could give me any pointers that I can email him pointers to tomorrow (Wednesday 22nd) it may just help tip his decision in my direction. So there's beer in it if you answer a relevent answer, and I get the job.

Old systems using Access 2 databases. These systems are not due to be updated any time soon.

New systems need access to that data, so each night he exports information using SSIS. However, he needs to also write data back, and more often than just overnight.

However, when he connects to the database, using ODBC connections I think, he says that the app (SSIS) opens the tables / database exclusively, even if he selects the option NOT to open it exclusively.

Any ideas, suggestions or comments ?
