I dont know where to start from, i have looked around for some coding and different ways to do it but they seem complicated, this is the bit of ASP that is my weakness, need some assistance and guidance. below is the code for the page;

<%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/MasterPage.master" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="ForSale.aspx.vb" Inherits="Users_ForSale" title="Properties For Sale" %>

<asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="head" Runat="Server">
<asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="ContentPlaceHolder1" Runat="Server">
        <h3>Properties For Sale</h3>
            <asp:Label ID="lblTown" runat="server" Text="Town:"></asp:Label>
            <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlTownSearch" runat="server">
                <asp:ListItem Value="Failsworth"></asp:ListItem>

SPS 2010 Search :: Search Topology Queries?

Hi All,

I have search topology as shown below.

Check if this is ok : -

 (sERVER1)  WFE    (sERVER2)  WFE

(sERVER 7) aPPLICATION sERVER                   (sERVER 8) MYSITE

I guess will work good.

I have a query here : -

Query 1) As I have 2 Query server , is that i need to assign a virtual IP pointing to these two query server and load balance them?

 Query 2 As I have 2 Crawl server , is that i need to assign a virtual IP pointing to these two query server and load balance them?

If we need not to put them in load balance then how will the two server handle the request?

Random slow search queries

Hi all,

I've been noticing some erratic behavior from our query servers with some searches taking unusually long time to execute. Digging through logs doesn't really show anything, except for entries like :

10/11/2010 13:14:21.53     w3wp.exe (0x1390)   ...    Entering monitored scope (RefinementManager.GetRefinement(Dictionary<string, ictionary<string, RefinementDataElement>>, XmlDocument, int))

10/11/2010 13:14:31.69     w3wp.exe (0x1390)    ...   Leaving Monitored Scope (RefinementManager.GetRefinement(Dictionary<string, Dictionary<string, RefinementDataElement>>, XmlDocument, int)). Execution Time=10150.0660000084

So it took at least 10 seconds to run this search, while others may take less than half a second. Any ideas what that might be?

Custom search queries not logging except to Search Service Application

I have written custom web controls that run specialised search queries under SharePoint Server 2010, using both FullTExtSQL syntax and (more recently) Keyword syntax, using both the object model and the Search web service.

Unlike the OOTB microsoft search webparts, which log to the web analytics section of the individual site collections, my controls only log the queries performed to the Web Analytics section of the Search service application (within Central Administration).

I have looked at the OOTB webparts using relflector, and followed the Federated search process for how the queries get logged, and I can't see any reason why my controls are ignored. (The QUeryInfo object is built and the information logged when the Query is executed, so it should be done when my custom queries are executed.)

Could anyone enlighten me as to what is going on here?

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

SharePoint Gets Search Analytics

Integrating ASP.Net application in to MOSS 2007 to utilize SharePoint Enterprise Search Feature can be done by using Business Data Search.

Search for a string in my datasource dynamically

I am displaying an Rssfeed on my page by using XmlDataSource and Datalist controls.

I want the user to be able to limit the information that is returned to my datalist.  To do this I have a textbox on the form that allows the user to enter their search criteria.

I need to be able to dynamically create a query string utilizing the information that the user entered in the textbox.  I am also using a drop down list and allowing the user to select whether they want to search in the title, description, or all parts of the xml file.

I am having trouble figuring out how to reference the data contained in my textbox in my query string.  Where the query string says 'asp', I want to replace 'asp' with the content from my sSearch variable.  Can anyone tell me how to reference my variable in the query string???

string sSearch = txtSearch.Text;
        string SQuery = "";

        if (DropDownList2.SelectedIndex == 0)
            SQuery = "[contains(title), 'asp')]";

Which tier do Linq queries belong?

Started in middle of a new project.  Our design architecture uses an n-tier (not MVC - no controllers) structure with Presentation, Data, Business and Service tiers.  However the lead analyst has the majoriety of code all in the Business tier claiming it all contains Business logic.  Our data tier is nothing more than a single .dbml model of the primary database to support all of the Linq queries in the Business tier.  To my mind Linq queries and classes they use are data access and belong in the data tier  but our lead analyst says they contain business logic therefore have to be in business layer.
